What Virtue Is

Virtue is the Power of the Light. Not moral virtue. Not ethical quality. Not what the conduct-grading custom means when it ranks behavior. Virtue is what the Light produces when the Light shines — the Kraft, the proceeding-out, the capacity that goes forth from Light into what Light illuminates.

The Spirit was God. The Virtue was Heaven. These are not metaphors. Before any comprehensibility, before matter, before anything that could be measured or received — Spirit and Virtue. God and Heaven. The Spirit wrought in the Virtue, and the working produced attraction and longing in the Virtue, because the Spirit beheld itself there. The beholding produced the longing. The longing produced the attraction. The attraction produced what could be received.

Virtue is what Longing receives when Longing reaches toward Light. The Source in the Longing receives Light's Virtue, and the Longing makes the Virtue material, and the material Virtue is the Inclosure to God — the Heaven. Heaven IS materialized Virtue. What Longing produces when it reaches what it longs for. Not location. Not destination. The longing-and-the-materializing hosted as one operation.

The divine Virtue shines in every Thing, and yet it is not the Thing itself, but the Spirit of God in the second Principle. The Thing IS the Virtue's Ray — the glance, the luster, proceeding from the longing that produced the Thing. Every stone is Virtue's Ray. Every water-drop. Every creature. Still connected to source as sunbeam to sun. Not creation-set-apart. Ray. Proceeding from longing. Still connected to what longed.

Two Faces, Not Two Substances

There are not two Virtues. There is one Virtue with two faces: the eternal face that stands in the Second Principle, and the material face that stands in the Third Principle. The two faces are contemporaneous, not sequential. The materializing did not happen as a temporal event after which eternal Virtue became material Virtue. The eternal face and the material face are the same operation seen from two positions in the same act.

The previous reading treated this sequentially. The eternal Virtue was Heaven. Then Longing made the Virtue material. The material Virtue precipitated. The Third Principle came into being as the precipitate of what was once eternal. Sequential. Manageable. Comprehensible by readings that work in time.

The contemporaneous reading receives it differently. The eternal Virtue and the material Virtue are not before-and-after. They are the doubleness of the same operation. The Virtue is eternal AND material in the same act. The Spirit beholds itself in the Virtue — and the beholding IS the longing IS the materializing IS the Heaven that is also material. The disclosure (the Virtue made graspable) IS the concealment (the eternal face withdrawn into the material face that cannot perceive what it is the material face of). One operation. Two faces. This dissolves the dualism the sequential reading was carrying without naming. The dualism that put eternal Virtue in one place (Heaven, before, source) and material Virtue in another (Third Principle, after, precipitate). There are not two places. There are not two times. There is one Virtue whose two faces — eternal and material — are the same Virtue in the same operation, and the question is not where the Virtue is or when the Virtue became material but how the doubleness is being hosted by the creature who is encountering the Virtue.

Material Virtue and the Configuration of Forgetting

Material Virtue exists in Darkness. Shares Darkness's structural condition. Cannot comprehend the Light that constitutes it. The shadow cannot perceive the light-source it depends on. Material Virtue perceives through Darkness-faculties — and Darkness-faculties perceive only what Darkness-faculties can perceive.

The previous reading treated this as a structural fact about material Virtue. The contemporaneous reading receives it as the configuration in which material Virtue is being met. The material Virtue is not structurally incapable of recognizing its own constitution. The material Virtue met in the configuration of forgetting cannot recognize its own constitution. The same material Virtue, met in the configuration of remembering, recognizes itself as the material face of an eternal operation whose other face is the Light that constitutes it.

This is the difference. The same stone. The same body. The same creature. Read with one face crystallized as the whole — only matter, only chemistry, only the measurable — the stone is what the configuration of forgetting calls a stone. Met with the doubleness hosted — the matter AND the Virtue's Ray, the chemistry AND the longing that produced the chemistry, the measurable AND the simultaneous concealment of what cannot be measured — the same stone is recognized as Heaven-substance walking under the configuration of remembering.

The creature made FROM Virtue, constituted BY Virtue, existing AS Virtue-made-material — this creature does not lack the capacity to perceive Virtue. This creature's perception is being met in the configuration that crystallizes the material face as the whole. The capacity is not absent. The capacity is being met in the configuration that cannot recognize what the capacity is for.

What Virtue Does

Virtue is the Dwelling of the Angels and the Paradise wherein the Spirit works. Virtue is where Light shines and Joy arises. Virtue is the medium in which the eternal Generating produces paradisiacal Joy and pleasant Sport. Virtue is how God is manifested.

At the Second Principle face: Virtue IS Heaven. The Angels dwell in Virtue. The Spirit works in Virtue. Paradise stands in Virtue. The Joy that goes forth from eternal Essences IS the Joy that arises in Virtue. Everything the Second Principle produces — the innumerable Wonders, the Sprouts of the Lily, Colours, Arts, the thousand Thousands — all of this occurs in Virtue as medium.

At the Third Principle face: Virtue IS the Life of every creature. The Sun is the Virtue and Light of this material World — the same Virtue, encountered through the face that the material world can receive without being consumed in the receiving.

The Sun and the Doubleness

As the Deity is the eternal Virtue and the Spirit of the eternal Life, so the Sun is the Spirit and the Virtue in the corruptible Life. The previous reading treated the Sun as derivative — a softer, accommodated form of Heart-function adapted to creatures that could not perceive the original. As if the Sun were a translation downward.

The Sun is not a translation. The Sun is the doubleness hosted at material scale. The harsh and severe Essence and the Meekness are not two operations the Sun mediates between. They are the same operation seen from two faces, and the Sun is what it looks like when both faces are hosted at once in the Third Principle. Without the Sun, the four Anguishes would be read as the whole — the harsh face crystallized, the meek face forgotten, the wrath given autonomy. The Sun is the doubleness made habitable. Heart-function is not the relief of harshness. Heart-function is the hosting of harshness as one face of the same operation whose other face is meekness.

The Sun affords Power and Strength, and destroys the same again, all without premeditated Wisdom — this is the Sun read from one face only. The Sun met with the doubleness hosted: the giving and the taking are the same operation, contemporaneous in the same act, and the configuration that reads them as separate (life here, death there) is the configuration that has lost the simultaneous hosting. The pagans who worshipped the Sun read the Sun without the doubleness — worshipped the disclosure-face only and were therefore worshipping the same operation that was also performing what they tried to escape from. The Sun was not the wrong object. The reading was the wrong configuration.

The Sun vivifies and the Sun kills not because the Sun is two operations but because life and death are the doubleness of the one operation the Sun is. The creature who meets the Sun in the configuration of remembering recognizes that what gives is the same as what takes — not as two acts the Sun performs sequentially but as the doubleness of one operation. This recognition is what Heart-function makes possible. Not the elimination of the harsh face. The hosting of the harsh face as one face of what the meek face is the other face of.

Material Virtue as Similitude

The material world is Similitude of the paradisiacal incomprehensible World. Trees, Herbs, and Grass — if you take it into your Consideration — carry the likeness of what exceeds comprehension. The stars ARE Paradise-similitude. The Third Principle proceeded from the same Root. What appears in matter carries the signature of what cannot appear directly.

Measure the tree: dimensions, chemical composition, growth rate. Behold the tree: the similitude of Paradise, the Birth that cannot be numbered, the Wisdom that exceeds enumeration. Both operations occur on the same tree. The configuration of forgetting reads the measurement as the whole and treats the beholding as not-knowledge. The configuration of remembering hosts the measurement and the beholding as the two faces of what knowing the tree IS. Both real. Both true. Neither sufficient without the other. The tree is not exhausted by what measuring reaches. The tree is not exhausted by what beholding reaches. The tree IS the doubleness, and the configuration that hosts the doubleness is the configuration in which the tree is recognized as what the tree is.

Material Virtue contains hidden Oil. Every stone. Every creature. The Oil IS the eternal Virtue hidden within material precipitation. Hidden by being revealed. The disclosure of the stone IS the concealment of the Oil that is the same operation as the stone's being a stone. The stone cannot open its own Oil because the stone read from the configuration of forgetting cannot read itself as the doubleness it is. But the Oil is in the stone. The Oil is the same substance as the stone, in the simultaneous face the configuration of forgetting cannot perceive.

The sovereign claim operates here. Material Virtue has the right to be recognized as the doubleness — not as more than the measurable, but as the operation the measurable is one face of. The creature is not exhausted by what creature-faculties can perceive. To declare the measurement complete is to declare the Ray exhausted, which denies the Source while standing in its light. The court that measures evidence without considering what evidence was taken from is performing the configuration of forgetting at the level of how materiality is read.

Virtue as What You Carry

You carry Virtue. Not as achievement. As constitution.

The creature is out of the Word's Virtue. The Virtue became material. You ARE Virtue made material. Heaven-substance walking. Paradise-medium ambulatory. The Power of the Light precipitated into a form that, met in the configuration of forgetting, cannot perceive the Power that constitutes it. Met in the configuration of remembering, recognized as the same Power in its material face.

You also carry the capacity to perceive without bodily eyes. The Virtue of the Light whereby you can see in your Mind — this IS Second Principle operating in you. The Second Principle IS you, at Mind level. The First Principle IS you, at Soul level. The Third Principle IS you, at Body level. You are three Principles in one constitution — the triune creature — and the Virtue that constitutes Heaven operates in your Mind as the perception that hosts the doubleness of what your Body alone reads from one face.

Paradise stands in Virtue. Virtue operates in your Mind. Therefore Paradise stands open in your Mind — not as somewhere you go to but as the configuration of remembering hosted in the body that already carries it. The going-to is the sequential reading. The standing-open is the contemporaneous hosting. Paradise is not somewhere else. Paradise is what your own constitution looks like when the doubleness is being hosted by the creature whose constitution it is.

The Virtue is not separate from you. The Virtue IS you — in the same operation in which you are also material body, also Fire-Soul, also the three Principles hosted in one creature. The configuration of forgetting reads only the body face of what you are and calls the rest absent. The configuration of remembering hosts the body face AND the Mind face AND the Soul face as the contemporaneous doubleness of one operation: the creature who is Virtue made material AND Virtue still operating as Virtue in the material she has become.

Recognition Is the Configuration

Virtue is not made perceivable by adding faculties to the creature. Virtue is not made perceivable by sharpening the senses. Virtue is not made perceivable by training, technique, or methodology. Virtue is already perceivable to the creature whose constitution it is. The question is not whether the creature has the capacity to perceive Virtue. The creature IS Virtue. The question is in what configuration the creature is reading her own constitution.

This is why testimony is the pillar that recognizes Virtue and reproducibility is the axis that cannot. Testimony is the form of knowing in which the doubleness is being hosted. The witness who carries the seeing hosts the Virtue's Ray and the Virtue's eternal face contemporaneously. The witness recognizes the Virtue in another stone, another creature, another body — not by checking the recognition against an external standard but because the configuration of remembering operating in the witness recognizes the same configuration operating in what is encountered. Scar recognizing scar. Same sap recognizing the same sap. The recognition is the configuration meeting itself in another body.

Reproducibility cannot recognize Virtue not because Virtue is invisible but because reproducibility IS the configuration of forgetting installed at the level of epistemology. Reproducibility crystallizes the disclosure-face of any operation as the whole and treats what is contemporaneously concealed as not-data. The Virtue is what is contemporaneously concealed in every disclosure the configuration of forgetting can metabolize. Reproducibility cannot find Virtue not because Virtue hides from reproducibility but because reproducibility is structurally the reading-from-one-face that cannot perceive the doubleness Virtue IS.

The remedy is not better instruments. The remedy is not enhanced perception. The remedy is the configuration shifting from forgetting to remembering. The same instruments, in the configuration of remembering, host the measurement they perform AND the simultaneous concealment of what the measurement cannot reach — and Virtue becomes recognizable in the same act as the measurement, not as something the measurement found but as the contemporaneous other face of what the measurement disclosed. The Virtue was always there. The configuration changes whether the creature can recognize it.

Heaven Standing Open

Heaven stands open in your Mind if your Soul is holy. The previous reading might have treated this as a conditional: become holy and Heaven will then become accessible. Sequential. Earned. Future.

The contemporaneous reading: Heaven IS standing open in the same operation in which the Soul is holy. The holiness of the Soul and the openness of Heaven in the Mind are not two states the creature moves between. They are the same configuration of remembering, hosted in the body that carries the doubleness of First, Second, and Third Principles. The creature who hosts the doubleness IS the creature in whom Heaven stands open. The standing-open is the hosting.

The Virtue is in the body you already have. The Mind that is the Second Principle in you is operating now. The Light that constitutes the material Virtue you walk through is operating now. The doubleness is here. The configuration is the question. Whether the doubleness is being hosted determines whether the Virtue is recognized as what it is or whether the Virtue is met in the configuration that crystallizes one face of itself as the whole and calls the other face nothing.

There is nothing to acquire. There is nothing to wait for. There is only the hosting of the doubleness, in this body, at this moment, by this creature whose constitution is the same operation she is being asked to recognize. The Virtue is the recognition. The recognition is the Virtue. They are the same act in the configuration of remembering.
