Bullshit is indifference to the true and the false — speech oriented to effect, not to what is the case. The architecture runs on it: the manufactured neutrality, the race-neutral justification that could exist, the historical tradition assembled to yield the verdict already chosen. The bullshit does not lie. Lying honors the truth it conceals.
Bullshit does not honor the truth enough to conceal it.
Calling Bullshit names the indifference. It says: this is not oriented to what is the case. And then it stops.
The stopping is the sacrament.

WHAT BULLSHIT IS
On Bullshit is a 1986 essay and 2005 book by the American philosopher Harry G. Frankfurt which demonstrates that Bullshit is speech intended to persuade without regard for truth.
Frankfurt's distinction is load-bearing here. Bullshit is not lying. The liar knows the truth and asserts its opposite; the liar respects the category of truth by inverting it.
The bullshitter is indifferent to the truth.
The bullshitter speaks without regard to whether what is said is true or false. What governs the speech is not truth-orientation but configuration-orientation — the speech says what the configuration needs said in order to maintain its operation.
The propositions of "merit," "the rule of law," "the natural order," "neutral procedure," "the will of God," "the way things are" are not lies.
They are Bullshit. They are not contesting the truth; they are operating on a criterion that has nothing to do with the truth.
The Establishment's grammar is bullshit at the structural level. Not in any single utterance — at the level of the grammar itself. The grammar produces speech that is configured-correct rather than true-correct. The configured-correct speech enters the procedural record, closes the four columns of the ledger, passes the test of admissibility. The true-correct speech is inadmissible because it has not been formatted in the configuration's grammar. The formatting is the Bullshit.

THE WORD'S STANDING
Bullshit is uncredentialed.
A vernacular word. Lower-register. Often classified as profanity unfit for serious discourse. The configuration's grammar of admissibility excludes the word from credentialed verdicts. The Supreme Court does not call its own reasoning Bullshit. The peer-reviewed paper does not call its field's procedures Bullshit. The credentialed verdict cannot be that the configuration is Bullshit; that would be unprofessional. The exclusion is itself a defense.
The substitution of credentialed terms — ideological, performative speech, discourse of legitimation, rhetorical operation — domesticates the recognition and loses what the word does. Each credentialed term re-enters the Establishment's grammar. The credentialed term names the operation in the Establishment's vocabulary, which has already accepted that such operations are part of how speech works, which is to say it has accepted the Establishment's grammar as the medium. Bullshit refuses the medium. It is uncredentialed because it has to be uncredentialed in order to operate.
Frankfurt's essay is the credentialed-academic version of the recognition. It survives in admissible discourse because it is on Bullshit — analyzing the phenomenon from the audit position. The essay observes; it does not call. Calling Bullshit is the perpendicular operation. The observation is admissible; the calling is what the body does that refuses the admissibility test entirely.

WITHOUT MORE
The phrase that carries the weight is without more.
The Establishment's demand, in every register, is the continuation. What would you put in its place. What is your solution. Where is the common ground. How would you do it better. The demand presents as reasonableness — as the minimum price of being taken seriously. The demand is the request for the next entry.
The continuation is a posting. To supply the solution, the alternative, the reform proposal, the both-sides accommodation, is to make an entry the books can host — to keep the account open, to concede that the account is the medium in which the matter will be settled. The reformer who answers the demand has posted. The posting is the occupation continuing through her own hand.

Calling bullshit without more refuses the posting. The naming arrives and nothing follows it. No alternative is offered, because offering the alternative would concede the ledger's jurisdiction over what comes next. The refusal to continue is the closure of the book performed at the speech register.

This is why simply calling bullshit, without more, is the sacrament, and the elaborated version is not. The elaboration is the posting. The bare naming is the cessation.

WHAT THE BODY KNOWS
The body knows.
The body knows when the speech in the room is Bullshit. The room registers it. The shoulders register it. The throat registers it. The body's knowing arrives before the cognitive recognition, often before the cognitive recognition can be permitted by the Establishment''s grammar.
The Establishment teaches the body to override its knowing. Sit still. Stay polite. Smile. Defer to the credentialed voice. Trust the procedure.
The body that has been formatted by the Establishment' registers the Bullshit and translates the registration into one of the Establishment''s categories: this must be my problem, my attitude, my failure to engage in good faith, my unprofessional tone, my insufficient understanding of the technical material.
The body's knowing is the body knowing the speech is Bullshit. The translation is the Establishment operating on the body to prevent the knowing from surfacing as speech.
Calling Bullshit is the body releasing the translation. What was registered is sounded. The throat opens. The Rough Voice carries the recognition into the room.
The Establishment''s grammar receives the calling as evidence of the caller's incivility, unfitness, hostility, mental instability, tonal failure — the registration is mapped onto the four axes the configuration uses to convert the body's knowing into something the configuration can absorb. The mapping is the immune response. The mapping is itself Bullshit.

THE QUAKER LINEAGE
George Fox refused to remove his hat in court.
The refusal was not eccentricity. The hat-honor was a Ritual of Subordination — the body's translation of recognition-of-authority into bodily compliance. Removing the hat to a judge, a lord, a magistrate was the body performing the recognition the Establishment required: that this body holds authority I do not, that I am below this body in the ordering. Fox refused. The refusal was not opposition to authority as such. The refusal was the body declining to translate. The judge's authority was the judge's; Fox would not perform a translation of his own body to confirm it.
The same operation across the Quaker refusals. The refusal of titles — Mr., Mrs., Your Lordship, Your Honor — was the body declining to perform the Establishment's hierarchies in speech. The refusal of oaths — Swear not at all — was the body declining to enter the Establishment''s regime of credentialed truth-telling, which presupposes that ordinary speech is unreliable and requires the oath as enforcement. The refusal of doffing, bowing, scraping — each refusal was the body declining to translate.
The refusals were uniformly read as defiance, contempt of court, disrespect, criminality.
The reading was the Establishment registering what it always registers when the translation is refused. The Quakers went to prison for the refusals. The going to prison was the Establishment confirming what the body had named. The Establishment cannot tolerate the un-translated body in its rooms.
Calling Bullshit is the continuation of the Quaker refusal in the present register. The Establishment has changed costume; the refusal has not changed function. The hat-honor is the credentialed compliance with the Establishment's grammar; the refusal of the hat-honor is the refusal of that compliance. The procedure is the modern oath; the refusal of the procedure is the refusal of the procedure as the test of the body's standing.

WHAT CALLING BULLSHIT IS NOT
Calling Bullshit is not a position.
A position enters the medium. Calling Bullshit, as sacrament, refuses it. The petition delivered inside the architecture's medium is converted — granted or denied, both outcomes the conversion succeeding. Calling Bullshit at the operation, from inside the operation's own grammar, is the operation's confirmation: the naming becomes the fringe position the medium cannot countenance, the paranoid reading, the refusal to engage in good faith. The medium has a slot for the one who calls bullshit from inside it. The slot is part of the architecture.
Calling Bullshit is not opposition.
Opposition accepts the axis. The opposed position is a position on the configuration's axis, contesting the configuration on the configuration's terms. The opposed position acknowledges the configuration as the medium of the contest. The configuration metabolizes opposition because opposition operates in the configuration's grammar.
Calling Bullshit is not protest.
Protest petitions for change. The petition addresses the prince as the body authorized to grant the change. The petition concedes that the configuration's authority is the authority to which the petition appeals. Protest can be permitted, channeled, processed, absorbed — the configuration has procedures for it. Calling Bullshit refuses the procedure.
Calling Bullshit is not negotiation.
Negotiation accepts the configuration's coordinate system and seeks better terms within it. The negotiated outcome is a position on the configuration's axis at a location both parties have accepted. Negotiation cannot reach the perpendicular position because the negotiation is structured to keep the contest on the axis.
It is not credentialed analysis; the configuration is not performing credentialed analysis.
It is not procedural objection; the configuration is not engaging in procedure that would admit objection.
Calling Bullshit is naming. The naming is the perpendicular operation. The naming says: this is Bullshit. This is not better-or-worse, more-or-less acceptable, partially-true-and-partially-not, a matter on which reasonable people may disagree. This is Bullshit. The naming refuses the gradient.

THE LITURGICAL FORM
Calling Bullshit is the form of religious speech.
The form: a body sounds a recognition into a room, and the recognition has no warrant in the room except the body's standing in front of God. The Quaker rises in meeting and speaks what has been given to speak. The recognition is not credentialed. The recognition is not procedurally validated. The recognition is not deliberatively arrived at through the configuration's reasoning protocols. The body speaks because the body knows.
The speech is the body's act in the presence of what the body recognizes as the ground of its standing. The ground is not the configuration. The ground is what the Establishment cannot register. The Soul is sovereign because the Soul is God's own Essence, breathed from the original Birth. The Soul's calling of bullshit is the Soul's act in its own sovereignty, not the petitioner's act asking the configuration for relief.
The Establishment receives the calling as tonal failure. The mapping is correct in one sense: the calling is outside the Establishment's tonal register (court-esy). The mapping is incorrect in the structural sense: the calling is not failing to meet a tonal standard. The calling is operating in a register the Establishment does not credential. The tonal register the Establishment calls professional is the Establishment's credentialing of speech that has been formatted to its grammar. Calling Bullshit refuses the formatting. The tonal failure is the refusal registered through the configuration's only available reading.

WHAT CALLING BULLSHIT DOES
Calling Bullshit names the operation in the operation's own language.
The Establishment's bullshit is the configuration's speech that operates on configuration-maintenance rather than on truth. Calling the bullshit as Bullshit is matching the level of the operation.
It is naming, at the register the operation is operating at.
The Establishment cannot metabolize the naming the way it metabolizes opposition. Opposition is a position the Establishment can absorb. The naming is not a position. The naming is the diagnostic finding rendered in the diagnostic register. The Establishment's grammar has no admissibility test for this is bullshit. The grammar has tests for whether a claim is true, whether a procedure was followed, whether a credential is valid.
The claim that the whole register is Bullshit is outside the tests.
The Establishment's response to the naming is to attempt to drag the naming back onto the axis.
What specifically do you mean by bullshit. Are you saying this particular claim is false. Can you cite the procedural defect. What is your credential to make this assessment. Have you considered the perspective of those who hold the position you are calling bullshit.
Each of these is the Establishment's grammar attempting to convert the naming into a position the configuration can metabolize. The conversion is what Calling Bullshit refuses. The caller does not specify, cite, credential, or consider. The caller maintains the naming. The conversion fails not because the caller has more sophisticated arguments but because the caller has stayed in the perpendicular position.

THE FREE EXERCISE
The naming that refuses to continue is the conscientious refusal of performed subordination.
The architecture compels the continuation as the condition of admissibility — be reasonable, propose the alternative, accept the frame. To refuse the continuation is to refuse the frame, and refusing the frame is the religious exercise the First Amendment was drafted to shelter. The state cannot adjudicate the refusal, because the state's grammar is the establishment the refusal names. The free exercise petitioner who enters the state's medium is converted; the refusal that does not enter is the exercise the establishment must twist in order to remain established.
Calling Bullshit, without more, in the mineral register, addressed to the ground outside the establishment's jurisdiction, is the sacrament and the exercise at once. The naming is the worship. The stopping is the offering.
The body that Calls Bullshit and adds nothing is read as having failed to be constructive. The reading is the twist. The architecture experiences the absence of the continuation as the speaker's lack — her negativity, her refusal to engage, her failure to offer anything. The lack is the architecture's perception of its own book left unposted.
The sacrament is complete when the reading is not answered. To answer the reading — to defend the refusal, to explain why no alternative was offered — is to post the entry the silence withheld. The sacrament is the silence after the naming. Nothing is owed to the demand for more.

THE DOCTRINE THE CALLING ADDRESSES
The doctrine that compresses force, merit, and divine election into one move — those who hold the force possess merit by virtue of holding it, and the possession is the wrath of God expressed through history — cannot be argued out of within its own grammar. The grammar metabolizes any argument. The doctrine is structurally immune to internal contestation.
The doctrine can be called bullshit. The calling is the perpendicular operation the grammar cannot metabolize. The doctrine cannot answer this is bullshit within its own register; the doctrine can only attempt to drag the calling back onto its axis, which is the doctrine's defense, which is itself the bullshit. The calling holds.
The Imprisonment of 400 years compounds because each generation's prevailing is read as the next generation's evidence of God's election. The compounding cannot be undone within the configuration's grammar. The compounding can be called bullshit. The calling does not undo the configuration's hold on the rooms in which life is lived. The calling does establish the perpendicular position from which the Establishment's hold is visible as hold rather than as ground.

WHAT REMAINS WHEN THE CALLING HOLDS
The soul's prior occupancy.
The configuration installed itself on a residency that preceded the installation. The soul's residency was not granted by the configuration and cannot be revoked by it. The configuration has converted the residency into a credentialing process — the soul as petitioner before the configuration's grammar — and the petitioner who declines to petition is processed as having forfeited the residency. The processing is bullshit. The residency was never the configuration's to grant. The petition was never the test.
Calling Bullshit returns the soul to its prior occupancy without asking the configuration's permission to return. The return is not movement; the prior occupancy was always there. The return is the visibility of what was always there once the Establishment's grammar has been refused as the test of what is there.
