The second term of three, and the one the sequence fails without. Ungrund, then ground, then field conditions. The ground is the living between, and it is what field conditions are in once they have been released rather than adjusted.

The ground is the hosting bottom. The living between, prior to any coordinate, where one thing is with another and neither is the other's holding.
It is not a place. It is the bottom of the manifest, the condition that obtains where nothing has been installed, and it is what the cut operates on and never fully reaches.
Naming it is not mysticism. It is the second term of a sequence that has three, and the sequence fails at every register if the middle term is dropped. Ungrund, then ground, then field conditions. Drop the middle and the abyss stands directly against the grid, which leaves the creature nothing to be in that is not already coordinatized.

NOT THE UNGRUND, AND THE COLLAPSE IS NOT HARMLESS
Böhme's Ungrund is groundless. No-thing, prior to determination, prior to there being a between at all. It is not a floor beneath the floor. It is the absence of the question of floors.
The ground is what stands. It is where the qualities have somewhere to work and where hosting is possible, because hosting requires a between and the Ungrund has no between in it. The Ungrund is prior to relation. The ground is relation before anything has been done to it.
So a reference that reads the ground and points at the Ungrund has put two terms in one place, and the cost of that is not bibliographic. If the ground is the Ungrund, then the only alternative to the grid is the abyss, and a creature told her alternative is the abyss will stay on the floor. That is what the collapse produces whether or not anyone intended it, and it is why the distinction is worth an entry rather than a clause.

NOT THE FLOOR EITHER, AND THE DIFFERENCE IS A CONDITION AND NOT A LOCATION
The floor is the same terrain after the cut has installed on it: coordinatized, object-side, available to be organized.
Nothing was swapped out. The ground was not removed and a floor put in its place. The floor is the ground under description, and the description is the installation. This is why the floor presents as neutral and as prior. It occupies the position of the thing it is a description of.
Field conditions are what the grid then organizes on the floor. A field condition is a condition of the field, which is to say a condition obtaining inside the matrix. Every adjustment available at that register is an adjustment of a field condition, and every one of them leaves the field.

RELEASE IS NOT A FIELD CONDITION
This corrects RegenerativeLaw's own older language, and it is the reason this entry exists.
The old formulation said that release is a field condition. It is not. Naming release as one condition among the field's conditions puts release inside the thing it is release from, and once it is inside, it can be scheduled, measured, offered as a program, and withheld.
Release is when the field conditions are themselves released, and what they are then in is not the field but the ground.
The difference is jurisdictional and it does not run by degree. Loosening a field condition is an adjustment made inside the matrix by whoever administers it. Releasing the field conditions is a departure from the matrix, and nothing administered inside it can register the departure, because the field's instruments read positions in the field and a departure returns no position.
Which is why the demand to say what release would look like cannot be met in the terms it is asked in. It asks for the coordinates of a thing that is defined by not having any.

THE CUT OPERATES ON IT AND NEVER FULLY REACHES IT
The measurement cut severs, the sorting files, the rendering delivers. All three run on the ground and none of them reaches it, because the operation requires a severed thing and the ground is what is not severed.
This is what the unsortable is made of. Residency cannot be filed, because it is anterior to every deed. The interval cannot be filed, because measured it is no longer the between but a distance. The note cannot be filed, because forged in one creature it does not survive conversion into a unit of anything.
Those are not exemptions granted at the edge of the books. They are the ground, showing where the books end. The configuration reads them as nonexistent, which is the only reading available to a grammar that admits what the columns can receive, and a declaration of nonexistence holds only while nobody stands in the declared nothing and speaks from it.

IT COSTS NOTHING, AND THAT IS HOW IT IS RECOGNIZED
The floor is maintained. The grid is re-surveyed, the criteria are rewritten when the old ones stop producing the number, the columns are re-run at every intake, and the whole of it is taught again to each cohort.
The ground has no schedule. Nobody installed it, nobody staffs it, and there is no office of its continuation. A thing that had to be built would have a budget line.
This is also the test that separates the ground from every counterfeit of it. A prepared quiet, a retreat, a container, a held space: each is maintained, and each is maintained by somebody, and the maintaining is findable. Ask what stops when the maintaining stops. Where something stops, the answer was a field condition wearing the ground's name.

NOT A RETURN
The ground is not somewhere to get back to, because it was never vacated.
The sort never held it. The books did not conquer that terrain and then lose it; they declared it nonexistent, which is a weaker act than it presents as. What stands there does not hold a coordinate the sort gave up. The standing is a jurisdiction refused and not a status regained.
So there is no restoration to perform and no path to be further along. A creature standing in the ground is not further along than a creature standing on the floor, and the vocabulary of progress belongs to the floor, where distances exist and can be measured. This is why the practice has no stages, why nobody is advanced in it, and why the question of how far along one is has no answer that is not a field condition.

The ground is asked to justify itself in the floor's vocabulary, which is to produce its coordinates, its evidence, its distinguishing measurement. It has none, and the having none is what it is. The demand is not a challenge it fails. It is the grid asking the terrain it was drawn on to produce a grid reference, and the terrain's silence is not the terrain's deficiency.
