The petition is jubilee. The Greek is economic. And the terrifying "as" means the circulation you release is the circulation you receive.

THE WORD THAT WAS NOT SINS
Kai aphes hēmin ta opheilēmata hēmōn, hōs kai hēmeis aphēkamen tois opheiletais hēmōn.
Opheilēma: that which is owed. Debt. Obligation. What the ledger records as outstanding.
Not hamartia, sin, missing the mark, moral failure. Not paraptōma, trespass, false step, transgression. Debt.
Luke's version at 11:4 uses hamartias, sins. Matthew's does not. Matthew's Jesus, the one teaching this prayer, says opheilēmata.
The church spiritualized it: made it about moral guilt before God, removed the economic dimension, made forgiveness a transaction between soul and heaven rather than between creditor and debtor. The petition survived the spiritualizing because the word is still in the text. It says debts.

THE JUBILEE GEOMETRY
Leviticus 25 sets the fiftieth year as the jubilee: debts released, slaves freed, land returned to the families it came from, the ledger zeroed.
The jubilee was not charity. It was a reset, and it rests on a recognition: that accumulation compounds, that wealth concentrates, and that a ledger economy left running produces servitude and dispossession. Not gradual redistribution and not incremental reform. Every fifty years, zero.
Isaiah 61 is the text read at Nazareth at the opening of the ministry: anointed to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to the captives, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. The year of the Lord's favor is the jubilee year.
So the ministry opens with a jubilee announcement and the prayer carries a jubilee petition. Forgive us our debts: release us, zero the ledger, proclaim the year of favor.

THE LEDGER ECONOMY
The war-body runs on ledgers. Every extraction recorded. Every debt compounding. Every obligation accruing. The future mortgaged to power the present rotation. Compound interest is that rotation mathematized: turning that never reaches fire, never produces light, only endless circular extraction from time that has not yet arrived.
The ledger economy is the +1 operation applied to obligation. What you owe grows; what I am owed accrues. And the operation requires that debts never be fully paid, because a fully paid debt produces no interest, no leverage and no control.
The debtor is the fuel source. Kept perpetually owing, never released, the ledger ensuring continued extraction.
Which is what made jubilee revolutionary. Not forgive some debts, not reduce the rate, not restructure the obligations. Zero. An operation that requires perpetual indebtedness cannot survive periodic zeroing.

WHAT FORGIVENESS ACTUALLY IS
Aphiēmi: to let go, to release, to send away, to leave behind. The word is not about feeling. It is about action.
To forgive a debt is to release the debtor: to let go of the claim, to send away the obligation, to leave behind the ledger entry.
It is not forgetting what happened. It is not feeling warmly towards the one who owes. It is not pretending no harm occurred. It is not emotional resolution. It is releasing the claim, zeroing the entry, letting the debtor go, refusing to extract what is owed.
Forgiveness is an economic operation before it is an emotional state. The feeling may follow or it may not. The release is the forgiveness.

THE TERRIFYING AS
Hōs kai hēmeis aphēkamen. As we also have forgiven.
The tense is aorist, completed action. Not as we will forgive, not as we are forgiving, but as we have forgiven. The prayer assumes the release has already been enacted, and asks to be released as one has released.
The harder word is hōs: as, in the same way, to the same degree.
This is not a transaction. I will forgive them so that God forgives me is still ledger logic, still calculating exchange value. This is field geometry: the release you enact creates the conditions in which release can reach you. The zeroing you perform is the zeroing you participate in.
You cannot receive jubilee while maintaining the ledger against others. The zeroing is total or it is not zeroing.

THE LEDGER CANNOT COMPUTE IT
The extraction economy has four operations. Addition, when debt is incurred. Multiplication, when interest compounds. Subtraction, when payment is made. Division, when debt is restructured.
It does not have zeroing without payment. Forgiveness is the operation the ledger cannot perform: release without extraction, cancellation without collection, the debt disappearing from the page not because it was paid but because it was let go.
Which is why the petition crashes the operation. It introduces something the accumulation logic cannot metabolize. The ledger offers two moves, pay or owe, extract or be extracted, collect or remain in debt. Forgiveness does neither. It rotates out of the terms entirely, and the ledger cannot track what has been released, because the zeroed entry leaves no remainder to process.

THE WOMAN AT THE CENTER OF THE TEST
John 7:53 to 8:11 is not in the earliest manuscripts. It was added by communities who understood what it captures.
The woman owes her life. The law is clear: the debt is due. He writes in the dirt, and says that the one without sin should cast the first stone. One by one they leave, eldest first. The ledger-keepers recognize that their own entries are not clean.
Then: has no one condemned you. No one. Neither do I condemn you.
The debt is released. Not paid, because she served no sentence. Not restructured, because the punishment was not reduced. Released. Zeroed. The entry erased, and erased by the one with authority to collect.
Augustine reports that some scribes removed the story lest their wives should gain impunity in sin. The ledger-keepers could not tolerate the precedent, because if debts can be released without payment the whole of it trembles.

DEBT AS CONTROL
The war-body does not only extract through debt. It controls through debt. The debtor is bound to the creditor: the one who owes cannot leave, cannot resist, cannot refuse. The ledger is a leash.
Student debt binds workers to jobs they would otherwise refuse. Mortgage debt binds families to places they would otherwise leave. Sovereign debt binds countries to policies they would otherwise reject.
Debt is not incidental to the occupation. Debt is how it operates, and the ledger is the mechanism of capture.
So forgive us our debts is a petition for release from capture, and as we forgive our debtors is the same operation run outward: as we release those we have bound, as we zero the ledgers we maintain against others, as we let go of the leashes we hold. You cannot petition for release while maintaining the mechanism. The jubilee is collective or it is not jubilee.

WHY DAILY
Give us this day our daily bread. Not stored bread. Today's bread. And forgive us our debts, not once but daily.
Why daily: because the ledger rebuilds overnight, because obligation accumulates constantly, because the +1 operation never stops.
The daily prayer is a daily jubilee. Constant zeroing against constant accumulation, the operation that crashes the accumulation performed repeatedly so that it cannot restabilize.
This is not I was forgiven once, at conversion, and am now clean. This is the zeroing must happen daily because the ledger refills daily. Forgiveness is not a state achieved. It is an operation performed.

THE UNMERCIFUL SERVANT IS THE PETITION AS NARRATIVE
The parables of the kingdom are consistently economic, and each violates ledger logic. Workers in the vineyard paid equally regardless of hours. The prodigal welcomed with a feast though he squandered the inheritance. The steward who cancels debts to make friends.
Matthew 18 runs the prayer's own logic. A servant owes ten thousand talents, an impossible sum, more than a lifetime of wages. The master forgives the whole of it. The servant leaves, finds a fellow servant who owes him a hundred denarii, a few months' wages, seizes him and has him imprisoned. The master's question is the prayer's word: should you not have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you.
The servant received jubilee and refused to participate in it. He was released and would not release. He received circulation and continued extraction. The parable ends with the ledger reimposed on the one who would not release his own.
Not because God is vindictive, but because the field cannot hold someone who refuses the operation that constitutes it. You cannot remain in circulation while practicing extraction. The two geometries are incompatible.

The prayer says debts, and the petition is economic before it is anything else.
Jubilee is the zeroing, the release, the ledger's death. Every fifty years the slate wiped clean, except that this prayer is daily, because the ledger refills daily.
And the as is not a condition placed on mercy. It is a description of how the field works. The circulation you release is the circulation you receive, and you cannot receive jubilee while keeping the ledger against someone else.
Zero without payment. Release without extraction. The debt disappearing not because it was collected but because it was let go.
