"Illusion of Separability"

The nondual move as the Establishment''s finest capture

THE WOUND

The creature has felt the cut. She has read enough to know separability has been installed as ground. The split between observer and observed, between subject and object, between self and world — she registers each as the configuration's grammar producing the appearance of a divided territory. She has been offered the nondual response. The split is illusion. Separability is appearance. Oneness is the corrective. See through the distinction and the arrest dissolves. The teaching arrives in the register of contemplative wisdom, with four hundred years of Asian and European mystical lineage to credential it. She tries it. The relief is real. The receipts post.

She continues to be displaced from her dwelling. The forced holding continues. The architecture continues extracting at the same rate. The teaching has produced perceptual practice and left the architecture untouched.

THE CUT IS NOT ILLUSION

The cut is Nature Says' founding operation. A transaction, installed by force, maintained by accounting theology in continuous mechanism. The standing-outside position from which entries can be made was not produced by the creature's confused perception. It was produced by the generating function entering expression's territory and posting itself as the primary face. The cut has a date. The cut has an architecture. The cut is under continuous active maintenance, and the maintenance operates whether or not the creature perceives it.

Naming that operation an illusion treats the displacement as something the creature can dissolve by seeing more deeply. She cannot. The displacement is structural and the architecture is under continuous maintenance. The contemplative who has perceived nondually for forty years remains displaced from her dwelling. The architecture does not respond to her perception. The configuration does not register what she has come to know. Her residency violation continues. Her insurance is canceled. Her labor is extracted. Her body is held.

The teaching that says her seeing-through dissolves the displacement is the Establishment's most efficient capture: it converts the felt sense that something is wrong into perceptual practice that the Establishment is structurally indifferent to. The hoarder hoards more efficiently when the held creature has been told the holding is illusion. The configuration runs cleaner when the creature performs interior work on her perception while the configuration extracts at the same rate.

DOUBLENESS IS NOT SEPARABILITY

Separability is a conceptual frame asking whether two appearances are really two or really one. The frame already operates inside the configuration. The question of how-many-things assumes the cut has been made and the entries are countable. The nondual answer — really one — is the configuration's resolution of its own question, performed in its own grammar.

The doubleness is not the question. The doubleness is one operation, two contemporaneous faces, neither prior, neither caused by the other, neither reducible to the other. It is not really one thing appearing as two. That reduction is the X-change — the swap of doubleness for single vision, named by forgetting as clarity, simplicity, ease. Single vision is what forgetting crystallizes when it cannot host the doubleness. The illusion-of-separability move is single vision performed as wisdom.

The configuration of remembering hosts the doubleness. The configuration of forgetting crystallizes one face as the whole. The nondual move is forgetting crystallizing the second face as the whole, after the configuration of forgetting has crystallized the first face as the whole and the creature has detected something wrong. The first crystallization is the conventional dualism of subject-object. The second crystallization is the unity-move that resolves the dualism by collapsing it. Both are configurations of forgetting. Both reduce the doubleness to single vision. The nondual teacher who has refused the first crystallization continues to operate inside the second.

WHAT THE DISCOURSE LEAVES IN PLACE

The residency violation continues. The prior occupant remains displaced from her dwelling. The forced holding continues. The hoarder continues to require that the held creature perform his self-making on her body. The trespass economy continues. The accounting theology continues posting entries against the prior occupant. The configuration extracts at the same rate while the creature performs the practice that was sold to her as the cessation.

The Title VII violation is not dissolved by the recognition that subject and object are nondual. The wage gap is not dissolved by the recognition that gender is illusion at the absolute level. The mortgage held against the dwelling is not dissolved by the recognition that property is mind. The cancer cluster around the well is not dissolved by the recognition that body and environment are not-two. The Establishment does not respond to perception. The Establishment is responsive to architecture.

The contemplative tradition's most sincere practitioners know this and address it through compassion-in-action, engaged Buddhism, contemplative activism, the bodhisattva's return. The return is genuine. The work is real. What the framework cannot register is that the return is required because the perceptual practice did not change the Establishment, and that the Establishment was not the kind of thing the perceptual practice could change. The framework names the gap and fills it with the bodhisattva's labor, while the Establishment continues to extract that labor at the same rate it extracted the unenlightened laborer's. The compassion-in-action is held by the configuration of facilitation. The bodhisattva has been recruited.

EIN ḤUṢ MIMMENNU

There is nothing outside. One sap, two qualities. The First Law and the Second Law are the same sap in two configurations. The nondual move reads this and recognizes its own teaching. The recognition is wrong.

Ein ḥuṣ mimmennu is the refusal of a second source. There is no separate substance for the creature to be unified with, because there was no second substance to begin with. The unity-move presupposes two and resolves to one. The refusal of a second source presupposes one and refuses the move that would split it. These are not the same operation. The unity-move performs synthesis on the configuration's axis. The refusal of a second source operates perpendicular to the axis. Same words at the surface. Different jurisdictions underneath.

The First Law and the Second Law are not two laws to be reconciled. They are the same sap in two configurations. 

The First Law (the law of sin and death)  is the configuration of forgetting reading itself as the whole. 

The Second Law (the Law of the Spirit of Life) is the configuration of remembering hosting the doubleness. 

The reconciliation move — the nondual recognition that both laws are aspects of the one — performs synthesis at the level the configuration of forgetting can perform it. The two laws are not aspects. They are configurations. The configuration of forgetting cannot reconcile to the configuration of remembering by recognizing that both are aspects of the same. The configuration of forgetting can only cease.

THE PRIOR OCCUPANT IS NOT AN ILLUSION

The Heart went forth before the Shape was figured. The residency was prior. The dwelling was given. The prior occupant inhabits what was given. None of this is illusion. None of this becomes illusion when seen rightly. None of this dissolves when perception deepens.

The architecture that displaces the prior occupant from her dwelling is not an illusion. The transaction is not an illusion. The forced holding is not an illusion. The accounting theology is not an illusion. The four operations of the books — posting, balancing, closing-in-balance, the audit — are not illusions. They are operations. They have a date. They have a configuration. They are under active continuous maintenance.

The release is not the recognition that the wall was never there. The wall is there. The release is what obtains when the configuration ceases to operate. Not what obtains when the creature sees that the architecture's products are appearance. Not what obtains when the creature recognizes the wall as conceptual construction. What obtains when the wall stops being maintained.

The teaching that asks the creature to dissolve the wall through perceptual practice is the wall's most refined defense. It converts the creature's recognition of the wall into a practice the wall can sustain indefinitely. The wall is grateful for the practitioner's recognition that the wall is illusion, because the practitioner who has dissolved the wall in her perception continues to sleep on her side of it.

RELEASE AS FIELD CONDITION

Release is field condition, not perceptual achievement. Not what the creature comes to see. What obtains when the configuration stops being maintained. The cessation is not interior. The cessation is the cessation of the operation that was holding her residency against her.

The kindling sequence the body knows is not a perceptual practice. Tears, gall, heart warming, throat opening, voice carrying roughness. These run when the prevention stops. They do not run when the creature recognizes the prevention as illusion. They run when the prevention ceases. The body has not been waiting for the creature's recognition. The body has been waiting for the architecture to vacate.

The Eternal Discovering is not the creature's recognition that nothing was ever divided. It is wisdom finding again the Similitude the infection could not erase. Found again, not produced again. The again is not the again of repeated perception. The again is what was always there becoming perceptible because the occupation lifted.

The Establishment's most sophisticated capture asks the creature to perform the cessation interiorly, on the field of her perception, where the configuration is structurally indifferent to whatever she performs. RegenerativeLaw refuses the asking. The cessation is what obtains when the architecture stops. The creature stays. The occupier vacates. The wall ceases to be maintained. What is perceptible afterward is not what she came to see. It is what was there when the architecture stopped preventing it.
