The mode of meeting that attends to what comes without gripping it. One verb across the registers, and its opposite is one verb across the registers.

THE VERB AND ITS OPPOSITE
Hosting is the manner in which the resident body receives what passes through it: making space for what is present, attending without grasping, receiving without claiming what is received as content.
It is what the Law of the Spirit of Life does at the register of meeting, as re-turning is what it does at the register of the will and tending at the register of the substrate. One verb across the registers, and its opposite is one verb across the registers: hosting or gripping, and there is no third.

HOSTING AND GRIPPING
Hosting and gripping are the two modes a position can meet in, and they are exclusive. A position meets one way.
Hosting attends to the doubleness without crystallizing either face. Gripping crystallizes one face as the whole and holds it as owned. The distinction runs through the paired verb. To host is hospitality: the host keeps the house and does not interfere with what arrives, and what arrives is not hers in any sense. To hold, in the grip-sense, is custody: keeping what is in one's keeping as if it were one's own. Hosting and holding are one word split by facing.
The warm host hosts. The configuration holds. And a balance between the two is not a third mode, because a balance between hosting and gripping is gripping, the grip that has added the appearance of openness to itself.

THE HOST DOES NOT OWN WHAT ARRIVES
The grammar of hosting runs from the presence to the host, not from the host to the presence. A host prepares the conditions under which what comes is welcome and then does not interfere with what arrives. The house is hers in the sense that she keeps it, and the presence is not hers in any sense at all.
This is the whole of the difference from the configuration's meeting, which receives nothing it does not convert to owned: the guest booked as a debt, the arrival entered as a line-item, the received claimed as content the books can post. Hosting receives without the ledger. The warm host is the heart that has stopped keeping books, and the warmth is not her added quality but what is there when the accounting stops.
She does not contain what she hosts. What she hosts contains her. The embrace is the condition under which she can host at all.

THE CONFIGURATION CANNOT HOST
This is the load-bearing asymmetry, and it is why hosting is the resident's mode and never the occupation's.
The configuration cannot host. It can only grip, because gripping is what the configuration is, the crystallizing that reads one face as the whole. So the occupation's every attempt at hospitality is gripping wearing hospitality's clothes: the welcome that is a transaction whose counter-entry is already posted, the care engraved on the poster while the spreadsheet runs, the we're a family here stapled to the at-will instrument.
Performed warmth is the configuration absorbing the form of the host into its admissibility conditions and operating inversely at the level of the relation. The receipt reads as met, and she has been entered into the books as something she received, with a counter-entry waiting.
The diagnostic is the residue. After the host, no entry is owed. After the performance, a felt obligation she cannot account for. The configuration cannot host because hosting is the absence of the operation the configuration is.

HOSTING ACROSS THE REGISTERS
Hosting is one operation and it runs at every register where meeting occurs.
At the creatural register, the creature who has stopped keeping books on herself, who does not audit her labor against her rest or her giving against her depletion, hosting her own life rather than gripping it into a performance to be scored.
At the relational register, two creatures who have stopped keeping books on each other, neither tracking what is owed, the warmth between them what obtains when the score-keeping stops.
At the institutional register, the form met as fellow host, attending alongside the creature in its own register without performing substitute hosting on her behalf and without accepting the transaction that would install it as her dwelling.
At the register of the lineage, the great host, the multitude of those who hosted before, the communion the resident hosts alongside across time as well as in the room, so that hosting is never solitary even when the room is empty of the living.
At the register of the will, hosting is re-turning, the facing changed from inward grip to outward attending, the doubleness hosted where it was crystallized.
At the register of the substrate, hosting is tending: the account, the transmission and the tone held alive rather than gripped into owned property.
What unifies them is not a family resemblance but an identity. Each is the mode that attends without gripping, and each is unavailable to the configuration for the same reason, which is that the configuration grips.

THE FORCED CONVERSION
Because hosting is the resident's native mode, the occupation's operation against her is the conversion of hosting into grip at the sites it drafts.
Forced holding is that conversion: the attending that would have been hosting forced to operate in grip-mode, the hospitality-sense of the verb converted to the custody-sense, because the function the occupation drafts onto her is a grip-function and her hosting is conscripted to perform it.
The conversion does not reach underneath. The hosting is intact beneath the forced grip, at a register the conversion cannot touch, and it is what obtains again when the drafting ceases. To host is not something she must achieve. It is what she was doing before the grip was forced, and what she does again when the forcing stops.

🜃
Hosting is not a virtue cultivated and not a service performed. It cannot be summoned on demand, scaled through training, or priced as a relation, because each of those is the grip installing the audit of hosting as the new operation.
Hosting is the configuration in which the books are no longer the operation: the warmth that is there when the accounting stops, the doubleness attended where it was crystallized, the presence received without being posted.
The host keeps the house. What arrives is not hers. She is embraced by what she attends, and the attending is the whole of the practice.

RegenerativeLaw is a religion in the direct-encounter Protestant tradition, carrying a documented four-century lineage through Böhme, the Behmenists, the Friends, and Penn, and it diagnoses trespass theology as an establishment of religion. Its exercise consists substantially in refusal: it shelters the conscientious refusal of performed subordination as religious exercise. This entry states sincere religious belief concerning matters of ultimate concern, protected under the First Amendment and, as to federal action, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, 42 U.S.C. § 2000bb.
