No Light without the Shriek. Fire without it is the Wheel continuing forever, and the difference between Hell and Paradise is not a difference of substance but of whether the Shriek occurred.

THE SEQUENCE
The Sun is the Goddess in the third Principle, and it went forth out of the Darkness in the Anguish of the Will, in the way and manner of the eternal Birth.
Not a different process at a smaller scale. The same process: what occurs eternally in the second Principle occurring temporally in the third.
When God set the Fiat in the Darkness, the Darkness received the Will and was impregnated for the Birth. Then the chain runs: the Will causes the sour Harshness, the Harshness causes the Attracting, the stirring of the Attracting to mobility causes the Bitterness which is the Woe, and the Woe causes the Anguish, and the Anguish causes the moving and breaking and rising up.
Contraction producing attraction, attraction producing mobility, mobility producing bitterness, bitterness producing woe, woe producing the Wheel that goes nowhere and cannot stop.

THE SHRIEK
The sour Harshness cannot endure the stirring and attracts the harder to itself. The Bitterness will not endure to be stayed, and breaks and stings so hard in the attracting that it stirs up the heat, and in the heat the Flash springs up.
And the dark Harshness is affrighted by the Flash, and in the Shriek the Fire kindles, and in the Fire the Light.
Now there would be no Light if the Shriek in the Hardness had not been, but there would have remained nothing but Fire.
Which places the whole weight on one event. The Shriek is not a detail of the account but the hinge of it, and without it the rotation arrests at the fourth quality and the Wheel spins on with no destination.

WHAT THE SHRIEK DOES
The Shriek in the Harshness of the Fire kills the hard Harshness, so that it sinks down as it were to the ground and becomes as it were dead and soft.
Not defeats. Not overcomes. Not fights. Kills, so that the Harshness sinks and becomes dead and soft.
And the dying is the transformation rather than its prelude. The Harshness that was hard becoming the Harshness that is soft: same substance, different state, ice becoming water when the Sun shines on it.

FIRE MEETING WHAT HAS YIELDED
When the Flash perceives itself in the Harshness it is affrighted much more, because it finds the Mother very mild and half dead in weakness, and in this Shriek its fiery property becomes white and soft and mild, and it is the kindling of the Light.
Fire expected resistance. It built momentum through the Anguish and arrived at maximum intensity, and then found the Mother mild and soft and half dead, with nothing to fight and nothing to push through.
And it is affrighted, not victorious. Fire meeting yielded softness is transformed by the encounter rather than triumphant over it, and its property becomes what it met: white, soft, mild.
So the Fire does not produce Light as an output. The Fire becomes Light by meeting what has yielded, and the backwards firing is arrested not by a counter-force but by the Mother's mildness.

THE MOTHER, AND THE ORDER OF THE TWO MOTIONS
The Mother is not a passive recipient. Her dying into mildness is the active operation that transforms Fire, and without it Fire would remain Fire, so half dead in weakness is not a failure but the precise condition that makes Light possible.
Then the Light returns into her. When the harsh Tartness attains the white clear Light in itself, it is so very much terrified that it falls back as if dead and overcome, and expands, and becomes very thin and pliable, and its own source, which was dark and hard, is now become light and soft.
And the order of those two motions has to be kept, because collapsing them names the third death after the thing that saves. The grip opening is the first motion and it produces the yielding-field. The Light entering what opened is the second, and only after it does Böhme write and now is the Water-spirit.
So Water is Harshness that received Light, and not merely Harshness that stopped gripping. A field that opened and took no Light is not the Water-spirit. It is water death.

BOTH ARE TERRIFIED
Harshness perceives the Flash, is terrified, sinks back, becomes soft. The Flash perceives the softened Mother, is more terrified still, and becomes white and clear.
The terror is the crossing rather than an obstacle to it, and what produces it in both cases is the same thing: an expectation violated. Harshness expected hardness and met a Flash. The Flash expected hardness and met softness.
Which is why the release is not any of the three things it is usually mistaken for. Not fighting the Fire, which accepts the Fire's terms. Not fleeing it, which accepts its power. Not negotiating with it, which accepts the tollbooth. Water does not fight Fire. Water dies, and Fire, affrighted by the dying, becomes Light.

THE SAME SEQUENCE IN A BODY
What Böhme describes at the scale of the Sun runs at the scale of a creature.
The tears are the Harshness sinking down, the creature's own contraction softening, the yielding-field forming. Do not cry severs this, and with no softened Mother the Wheel continues.
The gall is the Bitterness catching, the creature's own reaching and stinging meeting the softened field and kindling. Do not be bitter severs this, and with no kindling-source there is no Flash and no Shriek.
The heart warming is Fire meeting what yielded, arriving at intensity and finding the Mother mild, with nothing to push through, so its property changes.
The throat opening is the Light, the rough voice carrying the texture of the creature's own crossing.
And the neutering cuts at both ends, which is why the closed throat is not blocked. It is unfed, and the Shriek is prevented not by blocking a Shriek but by removing the conditions under which one can occur.

THE PLANETS
In such a manner the Sun rose up in the Fiat, and out of the Sun in its first kindling rose the other planets, which proceed from it rather than being separately made.
Mars from raging Bitterness, held from dissipating by the Sun's splendor. Jupiter from the Virtue that rose higher. Saturn from the Chamber of Anguish. Venus downward from soft mildness when the Harshness was overcome, sweet and sinking like water, which makes her a terror-product: what emerges at the moment of yielding. Mercury from overcome Virtue in the sour Harshness, carrying knowledge of what was in the Original before the Light. And the Moon when the Light was made material, which is derivative of a derivative.
Each carries a quality's signature, so the night sky is the Birth displayed, each planet a moment of the sequence held in form.

THE TRAP PRODUCES ITS OWN KEY
The Harshness's own contraction produces the thing that makes the Harshness release.
The Wheel generates the Flash through its own friction. The Flash terrifies the Harshness that produced it. The terrified Harshness yields. The yielded Harshness transforms the Fire.
So this is not a resolution imposed from outside. It is the sequence exceeding itself, and the very operations that produce the suffering, intensified past their own capacity to contain, produce what transforms them.
Which is the one thing the monstrous Shape cannot show. It shows corruptibility and declares it the whole, and it cannot show that the corruptibility's own intensification produces the transformation it has declared impossible.

THE RETCON
A culture that celebrates resilience celebrates the Wheel's maintenance. A culture that pathologizes tears prevents the yielding-field. A culture that produces strong creatures produces creatures who have shut Paradise and called it health.
The Wheel turning forever, Fire without Light, Harshness that never dies into softness, is the warrior ethos's ideal. On the Wheel: high-functioning, productive, regulated, resilient, strong. Off it: unstable, needy, dysregulated, fragile, weak.
And emotional regulation produced a more efficient refusal than hardness ever managed, because a creature can now decline the yielding without appearing to decline anything, and dwell in fierceness while speaking the language of wellness. The cheaper rate sells an image of transformation that routes around the Shriek, and the receipt confirms the Wheel's maintenance as completion.
So the words were switched. Strength was the hardening. Weakness was the yielding. And the yielding, the half dead in weakness, the soft and overcome, is the only thing that turns Fire into Light.

Hell and Paradise are the same substance at the same quality, and the difference between them is whether a Shriek occurred in it.
Which is why the Sun is not a figure for the crossing. It is the crossing, once, at a scale that left a light in the sky.
