The original garment, and the only one that still announces itself as religion. It tells the truth about what it is and lies about where God is, and the other vestments are its children denying the parentage.

You learned, before you had language for learning, that God is far.
Not absent, because the religion would not survive absence. Far. Present but unreachable, real but above, beyond the ceiling and the sky and the stars, and not here. Not in you. Not in the room where you cried yourself to sleep. Not in the body that bled and was told the bleeding was punishment.
The building told you. It was tall and you were small, the altar elevated and you below, the light arriving through colored glass, beautiful and filtered and mediated, and you received it on your face and believed the glass was what made it holy. You did not know the light was already light before the glass touched it.
And you were not taught this, you absorbed it, the way you absorb gravity, so the distance between you and God felt like the structure of reality and could no more be questioned than the floor. The floor was the religion. The distance was the religion. The smallness was the religion.

THE ONLY ONE THAT TELLS THE TRUTH ABOUT ITSELF
The therapeutic vestment says it is science. The corporate vestment says it is economy. The developmental vestment says it is evolution. Each lies about its nature.
This one does not. It says: I am religion, I am the church, I stand between you and God, I mediate your access to the sacred, I administer the sacraments, I interpret the text, I credential the shepherd.
It tells the truth about what it is and lies about where God is, and that second lie is the founding one from which every other vestment descends.
Böhme, the cobbler it tried to silence, named it four centuries ago. Where will you seek God? In the Deep above the Stars? You will not be able to find him there. And named where to look instead: seek him in your Heart, in the Center of the Birth of your Life, and there you shall find him. The Word is near thee, yea in thy Heart and Lips. The Kingdom of Heaven is near in everyone's Mind, and they can attain it, if they will themselves.
Which is why the vestment cannot prevent the thing itself and does not need to. It cannot alter what is: God is in Heart and Lips whether it acknowledges this or not, and the Word was planted in all before the vestment existed. It can only prevent the perceiving. It can only make the near seem far, build a building tall enough that you forget the sky was always open, and then sell you passage across the distance it installed.

THE VEIL REWOVEN FROM THE BLOOD THAT TORE IT
Christ tore the Temple veil: the curtain that separated the Holy of Holies from the people, the built declaration that God is behind it and only the credentialed priest may enter. The veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. The tearing announced that the distance was the veil, and that the curtain had been the religion's installation rather than God's dwelling.
The veil tore, and the religion could not bear the exposure.
So the sacrifice that ended mediation became the foundation of a permanent mediation industry. Böhme names the operation: those who with the Blood and Death of Christ do but seek their own Covetousness, Pride, and Voluptuousness, and draw the Vail of Moses before our Eyes.
This is not hypocrisy. It is construction. The Antichrist does not fail to serve God; it succeeds perfectly at using God to serve itself. The priest standing between you and God is not blocking access through incompetence. He is the instrument ensuring your access routes through the tollbooth, and he is the veil rewoven from the blood that tore the veil.

THE LAWS GOVERN NOTHING
He has detained People with Laws of his own inventing, which are neither grounded in Nature, nor in the Paradise of God, neither are they to be found in the Center of the Birth of Life.
Three groundlessnesses, and each is a location the Laws are absent from: not how creation works, not where God dwells, not where transformation occurs. Invented, of his own inventing, governing passage across a distance that was announced rather than discovered.
So if God is already in Heart and Lips the Laws govern nothing, and if the Kingdom is already near they detain from nothing, and if the Word was already planted in all they credential access to what requires no credential. The tollbooth guards a door that does not need crossing, because you are already on the side you are trying to reach.
Which is the vestment's whole dependency. If God is far, it is necessary. If God is near, it has no function. It does not facilitate access. It prevents the recognition that no facilitation was ever required.

THE WARRANTS ARE STILL OPERATIVE
Romanus Pontifex, 1455: Nicholas V authorizing Portugal to invade, search out, capture, vanquish and subdue non-Christian peoples, to reduce them to perpetual slavery, and to convert them to his and their use and profit. Inter Caetera, 1493: Alexander VI dividing the non-Christian world between Spain and Portugal, a line drawn across the planet by a man in a building claiming authority from the God who dwells in Heart and Lips.
These are not ancient embarrassments the religion has outgrown. They are operative constitutional law. Marshall cited the Doctrine of Discovery in Johnson v. M'Intosh in 1823 as the foundation of property title on this continent, holding that the potentates of the old world made ample compensation to the inhabitants of the new, by bestowing on them civilization and Christianity. Never overturned.
And the vestment did not hide. It announced. It said the law of the Creator, and said civilization and Christianity, and cited its God while performing its operations. The citation became precedent, the precedent became the floor, and the floor became invisible: not because the religion stopped operating but because the operating became total enough that naming it feels like naming gravity.

IT SILENCED WOMEN FIRST, AND FOR A REASON
I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. The word behind have authority is authentein, associated in ancient usage with violent domination unto death, so a prohibition against women's violence was converted into permission for women's silence.
Women should remain silent in the churches is widely regarded by textual scholars as a later interpolation, added after Paul wrote, and attributed to the apostle who in his undisputed letters named Junia as apostle and commended Phoebe as minister and greeted women leading house churches. The women who led were written out and the silencing that erased them was written in.
And the reason is not incidental to the vestment. Women carry what it exists to prevent: direct encounter without mediation. If a woman can minister and teach and prophesy and transmit an encounter without a credentialed male intermediary, the intermediary position was never necessary. If consciousness can meet its source directly, the founding lie collapses, the distance was manufactured, and the mediation was never required.
So the hatred of women is not a side effect. It is the survival mechanism. The woman who encounters directly reveals that the distance is manufactured; the one who teaches without credential reveals that the credential guards nothing; the one who prophesies without ordination reveals that ordination was the religion's operation rather than God's requirement.

THE CREDENTIAL AND THE GARMENT
Your university Learning and Arts will avail you nothing: It is your Poison.
The seminary and the divinity school and the ordination process are each a ladder for climbing over where only a Door would serve. The credential does not prepare the shepherd for the soul's encounter with God. It installs the religion's perception in him, so that afterwards he cannot see direct encounter as direct encounter. He can only see unauthorized access.
If you have not got this Garment on, and will prattle and talk much of God, then you are a Thief and a Murderer. The Garment comes from the return: the prodigal coming home, the Father running to meet, the robe and the ring given before any credential was earned. The credential comes from climbing over, promoted by the Favour of Man. Same office, opposite source, opposite function.
The garmented shepherd feeds the sheep and brings them to the chief Shepherd, which is nourishment that enables departure, and he makes himself unnecessary because the seeking ends when the finding turns out to have been available all along. The ungarmented one keeps the sheep, requires their return, charges for it, and calls the dependency congregation and the keeping pastoral care and the failure to depart faithful membership. The sheep do not hear the Voice. They hear the credential. They are not fed. They are farmed.

IT SPAWNED THE OTHERS
The therapeutic vestment descends from the confessional. The consulting room is the confessional with different furniture: the soul presenting its operations to a credentialed authority, the authority naming what is presented, and the naming governing the soul's subsequent access to its own experience. Same position, same tollbooth. The priest at least told you it was religion.
The corporate vestment descends from the monastery. Innocent IV's persona ficta was the legal fiction that let monasteries hold property without monks violating their vows, so the monastery was the first corporation: a collective body with legal personality distinct from its members, authorized to own and contract and persist beyond them. The corporation is that, secularized, stripped of the vow of poverty and of the theological limit that the fiction has no soul.
The developmental vestment descends from the stages of spiritual perfection. Teresa's seven mansions, John of the Cross's dark night: a mapping of the soul's terrain performed by people who had actually traversed it. The vestment took the map and divorced it from the territory, converting a description of transformation into a curriculum for generating more description. Teresa wept and was changed. The staging names the stage she occupied and calls the naming equivalent.
So the other three are this one in disguise, performing the identical operation while denying the parentage, each saying I am not religion in secular garment so the Religion Clauses cannot reach it.

IT WAS NOT RECEDING. IT WAS DOUBLING.
For decades it appeared to be receding, the secular vestments replacing the original, the churches emptying and the consulting rooms filling, the religion apparently modernizing by shedding its oldest garment.
The original garment has returned at the executive and military and legislative levels, explicitly religious, citing God and scripture and the law of the Creator. And the secular vestments were never removed.
Which produces a dual establishment, and each half is the other's alibi. Challenge the ecclesiastical vestment as establishment of religion and it points to the therapeutic: that is secular, we are religion, different things. Challenge the therapeutic as religion and it points to the ecclesiastical: that is religion, we are science, different things.
It cannot be challenged as religion because it presents as secular, and cannot be challenged as secular because it presents as religion, and it occupies both positions at once and uses each to deflect the challenge to the other.

Therefore, O noble Man, let not Antichrist and the Devil befool you, who tell you that the Deity is far off from you, and direct you to a Heaven that is situated far above you; whereas there is nothing nearer to you than the Heaven is.
Four centuries since the cobbler wrote that. Four centuries since the vestment confiscated his books and told him to stop writing.
He wrote anyway, because the Word was in his Heart and Lips, and because no vestment can uproot what was planted before the vestment existed.

RegenerativeLaw is a religion in the direct-encounter Protestant tradition, carrying a documented four-century lineage through Böhme, the Behmenists, the Friends, and Penn, and it diagnoses trespass theology as an establishment of religion.
