Adam's confession became the first official record.
His frame — blame God, blame Eve, protect the Serpent — was adopted by the tradition as what happened. Not one account among several. The account. The frame through which all subsequent reading would pass. Eve's confession — which named the deceiver, which identified the architecture — was subordinated, reframed, converted. Her true witness became evidence of her gullibility. Her accurate identification became proof she was easily deceived. Her naming of the actual source became the warrant for her exclusion from reliable witnessing.
The conversion was complete: the one who told truth became, in the official record, the one whose testimony proved she could not be trusted.
This is the template. Every subsequent burial runs on this code. The fuel is pre-loaded: Eve was deceived, women are easily deceived; Eve saw wrongly, women perceive wrongly; Eve was emotional, women are emotional. The architecture does not build the credibility deficit from scratch each time. It activates what is already installed. “She's emotional” activates the Eve-frame. “She has an agenda” activates the Eve-frame. The frame was installed in Genesis. The conversion mechanism runs on it still.

The Conversion Mechanism
The official record architecture does not simply reject the victim's testimony. Rejection would leave the testimony intact, available for reconsideration. Instead the architecture converts the testimony — metabolizes it into evidence supporting the official record.
Her emotion becomes evidence of instability. She weeps while testifying: too emotional to be reliable. She remains composed: cold, calculating, rehearsed. She expresses anger: vindictive, has an agenda. She expresses grief: manipulative, playing victim. Whatever she feels proves she cannot be trusted to perceive.
Her timing becomes evidence of fabrication. She reports immediately: suspiciously quick, prepared statement. She delays: if it really happened, why wait? She reports when others do: bandwagon, copycat. She reports alone: why is she the only one? Whenever she speaks proves she is lying.
Her memory becomes evidence of unreliability. She remembers precisely: rehearsed, too perfect. She has gaps: inconsistent, probably fabricating. She remembers more over time: changing story. She remembers less: can't keep track of her lies. However she remembers proves she is not remembering.
Her behavior becomes evidence of consent or complicity. She stayed in the relationship: couldn't have been that bad. She left immediately: had already planned her exit. She fought back: not credible victim behavior. She froze: didn't resist, therefore consented. Whatever she did proves she is not a real victim.
Her history becomes evidence of her nature. Previous assault: pattern of accusations. No previous assault: why would this start now? Mental health history: unstable, delusional. No mental health history: repressed, denial. Whatever she was proves who she is.
The mechanism is total. There is no testimony she can give, no behavior she can exhibit, no history she can have that the conversion mechanism cannot metabolize into evidence of her unreliability. The loop is closed.

The Powerful One's Account
The self-serving account faces no such conversion.
His emotion is understandable frustration. His timing is an appropriately measured response. His memory is consistent. His behavior is how anyone would act. His history is a distinguished record.
His denial is not what the guilty would say — it is maintaining his innocence. His counter-accusation is not attacking the victim — it is defending his reputation. His character witnesses are not people with stakes in his success — they are those who know him best. His institutional support is not structural protection of one of their own — it is appropriate due process.
The conversion mechanism has a polarity. It runs in one direction for the powerful, the opposite for the powerless. She speaks truth: converted to evidence of unreliability. He speaks self-serving narrative: converted to official record. Same mechanism. Different facing. The bilateral installation operating at the level of epistemology.

How the Record Gets Made
The official record is not discovered. It is constructed. The construction follows four stages.
Initial framing. The first account to reach institutional ears sets the frame. Usually this is the powerful one's account — he has access, credibility by default, and often learns of the accusation before it becomes official and can pre-position. The frame determines what counts as relevant, what questions get asked, what evidence gets sought. If his frame is troubled woman with grudge, the investigation looks for her troubles and her grudges. The frame established first shapes everything after.
Institutional interest alignment. The institution assesses: which account serves us? His account — isolated incident, misunderstanding, she has issues — preserves institutional reputation, avoids liability, protects investment in him, maintains operational continuity. Her account — predator protected by institution, pattern enabled by negligence — exposes institutional failure, creates liability, demands structural change. The institution does not consciously decide to believe him. The institution finds his account more plausible because finding it plausible protects the institution. This is not conspiracy. This is structural incentive producing epistemic outcome.
The documentation. Investigation reports are written. HR files compiled. Legal documents drafted. Each document faces a choice at every sentence: whose language to use? Alleged assault or her accusations. Multiple reports or coordinated campaign. Power differential or consensual relationship. The choices compound. The language accumulates. The official record takes shape — not as neutral documentation but as the sediment of thousands of micro-choices, each slightly favoring the frame that protects the institution.
Canonization. The official record becomes what happened. Future inquiries reference it. Journalists quote it. Legal proceedings cite it. Her testimony exists — but it exists as what the official record responded to, evaluated, found less credible than. She is preserved as the accuser whose accusations were addressed. He is preserved as the accused who was cleared, or sanctioned, or separated with dignity. The record becomes self-referential. It cites itself. It is checked against itself. It becomes the reality against which other claims are measured.

The Burial That Looks Like Documentation
The victim's testimony is not erased. Erasure would be too obvious, too actionable, too liable. The testimony is buried inside the documentation.
It appears in the record — quoted, referenced, addressed. The institution can point to it: see, we took her seriously. Her account is right here. But it appears subsumed inside his frame. It appears as what-was-investigated-and-found-less-credible. It appears as the accusation to which he successfully responded.
“We investigated thoroughly.” His frame shaped the investigation. “We took her claims seriously.” Seriously enough to document the reasons for not acting on them. “The matter is concluded.” His version is now official.
Her truth is entombed in documentation that looks like transparency and functions as burial. The record is the tomb. The transparency is the headstone.
When direct burial is not possible — when the testimony is too public, too corroborated, too persistent — the architecture shifts to reframing. She is not lying. She is misremembering. She is not fabricating. She experienced it differently. She is not accusing. She is processing trauma. She is not exposing. She is seeking attention. She is not witnessing. She is going through something. The reframe converts testimony into psychology. Her words remain but no longer function as words about what happened. They function as words about her inner state. She has been removed from the witness stand and placed on the couch. We hear you. We believe you experienced something. We are concerned about your wellbeing. Translation: your testimony has been reclassified from evidence about the world to evidence about your psychology.

The Mechanism's Failure Points
The conversion mechanism is powerful. It is not total.
Multiplication exceeds metabolism. One testimony can be converted. Two can be converted. Eighty-seven women testifying against the same man breaks the mechanism. The architecture cannot convert that volume into coordinated vindictiveness without exposing its own operation. Silence-breaking is contagious not only as information aggregation but as conversion-mechanism overload. The machine chokes on volume.
The witness refuses her assigned frame. The conversion mechanism requires the witness to engage on its terms — to defend her credibility, explain her delays, justify her emotions. When the witness refuses — when she says she is not here to prove she is credible, she is here to tell what happened — the mechanism struggles. It was built for defendants. It does not know what to do with the creature who will not defend. She is not saying she is not emotional. She is saying: my tears are testimony. She is not saying she reported on time. She is saying: there is no right time you would have believed. She is not operating in the terms the conversion mechanism requires as input. The mechanism cannot process what she is supplying.
Institutional fracture creates competing records. The official record requires institutional coherence. When factions develop — when insiders break ranks, when competing documentation emerges, when the institution cannot hold its frame — multiple records circulate. The “official” becomes visibly contested. This is why the internal witness who finally speaks shatters more than silence alone: the fracture makes the official record's constructed nature visible.

The True Record
Against the official record stands the true record — not documented in institutions, not canonized in files, held elsewhere.
In the body: the soma that remembers what the institution denies. The flinch, the nightmare, the triggered response. The body keeps the record the official record erases.
In the network: the whispered warnings, the informal channels, the knowledge that circulates beneath official silence. The record that protects the next potential victim because the official record will not.
In the witness herself: she knows what happened. The conversion mechanism can change how her testimony is received. It cannot change what she knows. Her knowing is the most primary record — the one that precedes and survives all official documentation.
In the accumulation: the testimonies multiplying, the patterns emerging, the serial where the official record showed isolated incidents. Each new witness adds to a record the institution did not write and cannot control.
The true record does not seek institutional adoption. It does not compete for canonization. It seeks something the official record cannot supply and cannot prevent: truth spoken, wound named, pattern exposed, architecture made visible as architecture. The official record derives authority from institutional imprimatur, procedural legitimacy, documentary form, and repetition. Each authority is attackable. The institution's credibility is inverse to its stake in the record's content. The procedure reveals its non-neutrality when the frame that shaped it is examined. The document shows its construction when the language choices accumulate to the eye. The repetition breaks when each citation becomes an occasion to contest rather than confirm.
De-authorization of the official record is not replacement with another official record. It is exposure of official records as genre — as the crystallized interests of record-makers, not as neutral documentation of what occurred. Once the genre is visible, no official record carries the same automatic authority. Not this one. All of them.
