The limit at which perception terminates. An instrument that cannot perceive what it measures is not malfunctioning. It is running exactly as its origin requires.

Böhme states the law without hedging it: every creature looks but into its Mother that is fixed in it.
Not tends to look. Not is tempted to look. Looks but into. Only into. The looking goes where the Mother is and stops there.
Which makes the creature the looking rather than a perceiver who happens to be limited, because the limit is not a defect in the perceiver, it is the perceiver.
A material creature sees material substance and cannot see the Spirits in the Fire and Air. Not because they hide. Because they are not of the Mother it looks into, and an immaterial operation runs from a different Principle, which is a different Mother.
As the Body sees not the Soul, which yet dwells in it.
The Soul dwells in the Body. Not outside it, not withheld from it, but in it continuously as the animating operation, and the Body cannot see it. Not because the Soul conceals itself. Because the Body looks only into Earth, and the Soul is not of that Mother.
You carry what you cannot perceive.

THREE PRINCIPLES, THREE PERCEIVERS
Three Principles run at once, each with its own perceptual field, none transparent to the others.
The First Principle is the Fire-world, the Father-ground, harshness and anguish and fierce will. The Soul, breathed from the Father's own Essence, perceives from here, and what it sees is the operations that precede material form: the dark fire, the wheel before it opens, Hell as the quality-field that exists before Light kindles rather than as a place of punishment.
The Second Principle is the Light-world, what emerges when the Flash opens the Fire instead of closing it. The illuminated Mind perceives from here, which is the Soul with Light shining in it, and what it sees is the qualities containing one another, each born in the others and nourishing them.
The Third Principle is the material world. The Body perceives from here, and what it sees is behavior, appearance, consequence, the measurable surfaces of what has precipitated out of the other two.
The Soul knows what the Body cannot perceive. The Mind sees what neither Soul nor Body can show the other. The Body registers what neither Soul nor Mind can translate.
So the human walks as compound blindness, which is not one perceiver seeing incompletely but three perceivers each complete in its own Mother and opaque to the other two.

IMMANENCE WITHOUT COMPREHENSION
The vertiginous sentence is this one: the third Principle does not comprehend, nor apprehend the second Principle wherein God is; though indeed itself is in God, yet there is a Birth between.
The material world, which is the whole territory of measurement and extraction, is in God. Not separated, not abandoned, not waiting to return. In God continuously, the way a precipitate is in what precipitated it.
And cannot perceive God.
The Birth between is not distance, because a distance could be crossed. The Birth between is Principle.
So the material world exists inside what it cannot comprehend, is sustained by what it cannot perceive, and is generated from what its instruments cannot detect. Every measurement of Third Principle material inherits that condition. The Ledger runs inside what it cannot see, measures the precipitate of what it cannot reach, and issues conclusions about the surfaces of operations running entirely outside its field.
The Ledger stands in God and cannot perceive God. The extraction runs inside Life and cannot perceive Life. The instrument functions within what generated it and cannot see its generator.
Not corruption, and not a limitation to be overcome. Principial.

THE MUTUAL CASE
The one being the Case, or Receptacle, of the other.
The Soul-Spirit contains the Elementary-Spirit and the Elementary-Spirit contains the Soul-Spirit. Each is vessel for the other. Each is housed in what it cannot see.
Which is not a hierarchy with Body beneath Soul and matter beneath spirit. It is mutual containing without mutual perception: the Soul houses the Body's operations, the Body houses the Soul's dwelling, and neither sees across the membrane that holds them together.
The Elements do it too, each in each, none comprehending any. The seven qualities each contain the others and each are born from the others' substance, and still Fire does not see Water's operation inside itself, and Water does not perceive Fire's presence in its own generation.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR AN INSTITUTION
The Ledger is a Third Principle instrument, and it issues debits and credits about what it cannot perceive.
The soul being judged operates from the First Principle, where the Ledger has no eye. The Light that would illuminate the matter operates from the Second, where the Ledger has no instrument. The court sees Third Principle manifestation, which is behavior and appearance and material consequence, and rules on what it saw, which is the surface-precipitation of operations it cannot reach.
The evaluation that measures potential measures a Third Principle signal. The therapeutic vestment that models mental states models a Third Principle manifestation. The reckoning that assigns value assigns it in Third Principle coordinates. Each runs on what its Mother supplies and sees nothing of what dwells in the being in front of it.
Which makes this not bias and not corruption, and that is the harder finding: the blindness is operating exactly as it is built to operate, so an instrument corrected for prejudice is still blind in the same place.
The being who stands before the Ledger is not fully present to it. What is met is the precipitate. The being is not hidden. She is of a Mother the Ledger cannot look into.

THE BIRTH BETWEEN IS ALSO THE JOINT
Yet there is a Birth between.
The Birth between is the barrier: the membrane keeping the Principles opaque to each other, so that what operates in the Second does not automatically appear in the Third's field.
And it is the joint. Where a Birth occurs, something crosses, so the membrane that separates is the same membrane where touching happens. The Third Principle is in the Second rather than beside it, and the indwelling continues without the comprehension.
What cannot be seen can still operate. What cannot be comprehended can still generate. What cannot be shown across the membrane can still be participated in at the Birth itself.
So the work is not at the Principles, since each sees only its Mother. It is at the joints, where what cannot perceive each other nevertheless touches, and where Third Principle material carries Second Principle operation in its substance whether or not anything in the Third Principle can detect it.
