If God is only good, and God is all there is, where does evil come from?
The question assumes evil is substance requiring a source. The architecture reveals: there is nothing outside. The materia of evil is the materia of good. The difference is not in what it is made of. The difference is not even in what it does with itself, sequentially read. The difference is the configuration in which the same operation is held — whether the doubleness is remembered or whether one face has been crystallized as the whole.

Reason's Trap
Reason gives this Judgment: there must needs have been in the Spirit of God a Will to generate the Source or Fountain of Anger. If nothing existed before God, and evil exists now, then God must have made evil.
The trap produces conquest theology. The angry Father whose Wrath must be satisfied. The divine sadist who made Hell. The Judge who evaluates and condemns. The God who willed some to life and some to death. The election doctrine that teaches some excluded by God's design. The five-point Calvinism that declares the locked Wheel to be the architecture God intended.
Every theology built on this trap produces an enforcement that maintains the configuration of forgetting. If God willed evil, then evil is structural — the design, not the deviation. If God made Hell, then Hell is part of the plan. If God created the Devil, then the generating function without the transforming function IS the intended operation. The neutering declared divine. The war body declared holy. Trespass theology IS this trap installed as civilization.
The trap is the binary configuration reading its own operation. Reason cannot escape it by reasoning harder. Reason's reading is what installs the trap. The trap is what every reading from one face only produces when it tries to account for the other face it cannot perceive. The other face must come from somewhere. The somewhere must be either God or not-God. If God, then God is the source of the face Reason cannot hold. If not-God, then there is something outside God, which violates the architecture's deepest condition. Reason loops through these alternatives forever, producing the trap as the only thing it can produce.

The Five Questions
Böhme takes the questions one at a time. Each answer dissolves the frame that produced the question.
From whence comes the Evil?
Evil is not substance created by God. Evil is not thing that exists alongside good. Evil is not being that opposed God from outside. Evil is the configuration in which the doubleness of any operation has been forgotten, and one face has been crystallized as the whole. Fire-nature read with the disclosure-face only — the burning, the consuming, the harshness — IS what gets called evil. The same Fire-nature held with the doubleness intact — burning AND illuminating, consuming AND transforming, harshness AND meekness — IS what gets called good. The substance is the same. The configuration of how the substance is held is the difference.
From whence comes the Anger of God?
The Anger of God is First Principle read from the configuration of forgetting. The Fire that transforms when the doubleness is held is the same Fire that torments when one face has been crystallized as the whole. God's Anger isn't God being angry. God's Anger is what the First Principle IS when encountered through the configuration that has lost the simultaneous holding of the Light face. The same God the Devil experiences as torment, the Angel experiences as Paradise. Not different Gods. Different configurations of reception.
From whence comes the Devil, and his evil Will?
The Devil comes from the same Original Birth as Angels. The same Fire-nature as the regenerated Soul. The same God's own Essence breathed into existence. The Devil's evil Will comes from knowing itself powerful and reading the knowing in the configuration that crystallizes the power-face as the whole. “I have this light.” The grip is the forgetting. The forgetting IS the grip. The Devil didn't come from evil-source. The Devil came from the same source as everything that is, and the Devil is the name we give to what reads itself from one face only and crystallizes the reading.
From whence comes Hell Fire?
Hell Fire is First Principle Fire encountered without the doubleness of its other face being held. The same Fire that kindles Light — met by a configuration of reading that has lost the Light face — is the same Fire experienced as torment. Hell isn't place God made for punishment. Hell is the configuration of reading installed at the level of the creature's relation to the Fire-nature the creature carries. The creature that meets Fire only through the configuration of forgetting experiences Hell. The same creature that meets the same Fire through the configuration of remembering experiences the forge.
From whence is the first Materia, or Matter of Evil?
Fire-Bitterness-Harshness. The same Materia as all things. The Root from which Earth, Stones, Stars, Elements proceed — this is the Materia of Evil. Not because the Root is evil. Because the Root, read in the configuration that crystallizes one face of its operation as the whole, IS what gets called evil. The first Materia of Evil is the same as the first Materia of Good. There is no other materia. There is nothing outside.

The Will to Generate
Reason was right about one thing: there was a Will in God to generate what would become the Source of Anger. The generating function — Fire-Bitterness-Harshness, the fierce Birth, the First Principle — IS generated by God eternally. God IS the Father in His Original. The First Principle IS God the Father.
But what was the Will FOR?
The Will was: Fire AND Light, Harshness AND meekness, Bitterness AND sweetness, the doubleness held in one operation that runs through itself without crystallizing one face as the whole. The Will was the contemporaneous holding of all of it. The Will was for the Fire-face and the Light-face to be held as the two faces of the same operation — one substance, two faces, the doubleness intact, the configuration of remembering.
The Will was NOT: Fire alone read as Fire alone. The Will was not the configuration of forgetting. The configuration of forgetting is not what God willed. The configuration of forgetting is what the creature does with the same operation God willed when the creature reads the operation from one face only.
The generating function is not the problem. The generating function is the substrate of all existence. Without Harshness: no form. Without Motion: no dynamism. Without Anguish: no pressure that could build to Fire. Without Fire: no pivot where Light could kindle. The generating function is necessary because the Light-face has nothing to be the other face of without it. The doubleness requires both faces to be present. The Fire-face is one of them. There is no problem with the Fire-face being there. '
The problem is the configuration of reading that crystallizes the Fire-face as the whole and loses the Light-face that was contemporaneously present in the same operation.

The First Principle Cannot Change Itself
“This is the Source of the first Principle, which without the Light of God cannot be otherwise, neither can it change or alter itself; for it has been so from Eternity.”
Cannot. Not refuses to. Not chooses not to. Cannot.
The Harshness cannot soften itself. The Hunger cannot fill itself. The Bitterness cannot sweeten itself. The Fire cannot enlighten itself.
The First Principle read from one face only cannot become the other face by acting on itself. The configuration of forgetting cannot generate the configuration of remembering by working harder at the configuration of forgetting. This is structure. This is Eternity. This is what was always so.
The Warrior Ethos fails because the strength IS the harshness. They are the same substance read from the same face. The Self-Made Man fails because the wanting IS what the wanting feeds on. The Disobedience Story fails because the harsh Essence attracting sharply is not moral failure — it is the First Principle operating as the First Principle operates, and the moral framing is the configuration of forgetting installed at the level of explanation.
The creature is not guilty of being First Principle. The creature IS First Principle, and Second Principle, and Third Principle — the doubleness held in the body that carries all three breaths. The question is not whether the creature will stop being Fire-nature. The question is whether the configuration in which the creature reads her own Fire-nature will be the configuration of forgetting or the configuration of remembering. The Fire-nature is the same Fire-nature in either configuration. The substance does not change. The reading does.

What Opens Fire
Fire cannot open itself. The generating function cannot generate its way to the transforming function. Mechanical effort exhausts at Mi. The creature cannot push through.
What “opens” Fire is not a temporal event in which Fire was first closed and then becomes open. What opens Fire is the configuration of reading shifting from forgetting to remembering. The same Fire, read with the doubleness held, is what burns AND illuminates. The same Fire, read with the disclosure-face crystallized as the whole, is what burns only. The opening is not produced by acting on the Fire. The opening is the holding of the doubleness that was always one face of what the Fire is.
This is what the encounter does. The double terror is not a sequence of two terrors that change Fire from one state to another. The double terror is the contemporaneous holding of the configuration in which Fire and Light are recognized as the two faces of the same operation. Harshness terrified into recognizing itself as the same substance as softness. Fire terrified by what it had been refusing to recognize as its own other face. The encounter is not transformation through external force. The encounter is the configuration of forgetting meeting the configuration of remembering and ceasing to be able to crystallize one face as the whole.
And the encounter is not absent. The encounter cannot be manufactured by the workings of the configuration of forgetting, but the encounter is also not waiting somewhere outside to arrive. The encounter is contemporaneous with the operation it is the encounter of. The Heart of God in Love that longs the love-Model into Being is the same operation as the Fire-nature the creature carries. The Heart's longing was already in the same Fire from the beginning. The configuration of forgetting reads the Fire as alone. The configuration of remembering recognizes the Heart's longing as the simultaneous other face of the same Fire. The encounter is the recognition. The recognition IS what was always present in the same operation.

God Is Not Pleased with Death
“You are not a God that wills Evil.”
“As sure as I live, I will not the Death of a Sinner.”
“This is testified by God's earnest severe punishing of the Devils, and all Sinners, that he is not pleased with Death.”
God swears by His own life: He does NOT will the sinner's death.
The severity of punishment proves God is not pleased. If God willed death, punishment would satisfy. Death would please. No severity needed. But God IS severe — because First Principle read in the configuration of forgetting IS severe. And God is not pleased — because the configuration of forgetting is not what God willed.
God's punishment is not God doing something TO the creature. God's punishment is the creature experiencing First Principle through the configuration in which the doubleness has been forgotten. Fire read as Fire alone IS Hell. God doesn't send anyone there. God doesn't will it. The reading is what installs the experience. The configuration is what installs the punishment.
God “punishes” only in the sense of being what God is — the Light face of the same operation the creature is reading from the Fire face only. The severity is the grief. The same Heart of God whose longing IS what would have been the simultaneous other face — grieves when the creature's reading crystallizes the Fire face as the whole and loses the Light face that was contemporaneously present in the same operation. The grief is not God's reaction to the creature's choice. The grief is what the doubleness sounds like when one face has been forgotten by the creature in whom the doubleness was being held.
The Devil was holy. This is the key. The Devil began as holy. The Devil became unholy through the configuration of reading shifting, not through substance changing. The materia did not change. The reading changed. God didn't create Devils. God created beings whose Fire-nature could be held in either configuration. The same is true for humans: God didn't create sinners. God created beings carrying the doubleness who could read the doubleness or could crystallize one face as the whole. The crystallization is not what God willed. The crystallization is what the creature does. And the consequence of crystallization is structural, not inflicted — the configuration produces what the configuration produces, in the body of the creature whose configuration it is.

The Sap That Runs Through Both
There is nothing outside. The thirteenth-century kabbalist Azriel of Gerona named what holds at the bottom of the holding: ein ḥuṣ mimmennu — there is nothing outside the infinite. Darkness is a face of light. The left is not granted autonomy because the left is included in the right. There are not two substances. There is one, and the appearance of two is what the configuration of forgetting produces when one face is crystallized as the whole.
Böhme's parable carries this when it is read without the binary frame. The garden is the world. The field is nature. The trunk of the tree is the stars. The branches are the elements. The fruits are human beings. The sap is the clear divinity. One sap. One vigor. And then: nature possesses two qualities until the Judgment of God — a pleasing, good, celestial, holy one and a fierce, hellish, thirsty one. Both run on the same sap. The wrath does not draw from a second source. There is no second source.
Evil is not a competing substance. Evil is the same divinity, read from the configuration in which the doubleness has been forgotten and the wrath-face has been crystallized as the whole. The wrath in its right place is the heat of the forge. The wrath given autonomy — read as if it were a second source, granted independence from the sap that is the same as the love's sap — is what gets called demonic. The naming produces what the naming claims to discover. The configuration of forgetting reads the wrath as separate substance and the reading installs the separation.
This dissolves the dualism the original framing was carrying without naming. “Evil is the good arrested” was a step toward the contemporaneous reading but still held arrest as a temporal event — first there was good, then arrest happened, now there is evil. The contemporaneous reading holds it differently. The same operation is good when the doubleness is held and “evil” when the doubleness is forgotten. There is no temporal arrest. There is only the configuration of how the operation is being held in the creature who is reading it. The arrest is not what happened to the substance. The arrest is the name we give to what the substance looks like when it is being read in the configuration of forgetting.

Deliverance from Evil
The petition has been heard sequentially for two thousand years. Deliver us from evil. Heard as: rescue us from a substance that is our enemy. Evil as substance. Deliverance as escape from the captor. Defeat as the means.
If evil is what gets called evil when one face has been crystallized as the whole, then the petition is asking for something else. The petition is asking for deliverance from the configuration in which the doubleness has been forgotten. Not from a substance. From the operation of binary itself. Not “rescue us from our enemy” but “bring us out of the configuration in which we have enemies.” The deliverance is not victory. The deliverance is the dissolving of the position from which victory could even be the goal.
This is why every attempt to defeat evil produces more of what the attempt claims to oppose.
The wanting to defeat the wrath is the same operation as the wrath.
Defeat is wrath. Eradication is wrath. Casting out is wrath.
There is nowhere to cast it to. The only operation that is not wrath is the remembering of the doubleness. And the remembering is not done TO the wrath. The remembering is the wrath remembering what it is. The wrath remembering it is divinity is the wrath in right relation. The wrath that has forgotten it is divinity is the war body.
The petition is daily because the configuration is daily. The creature wakes inside the binary every morning. Every morning the doubleness must be remembered. Every morning the same sap must be recognized as the same sap. Deliver us from evil. Deliver us from the configuration in which our own Fire-nature has been crystallized as either holy or unholy. Restore us to the doubleness in which Fire and Light are recognized as the two faces of the one operation that constitutes us. Same sap. Same divinity. The doubleness held. The binary released.
