Therefore the creature's task is to adapt, to develop adaptive capacity, to build resilience, to grow her ability to bear what the trespass continues to do.
The X-change is total. Once the trespass is environment, refusing the trespass becomes refusing reality. Naming it becomes maladaptive. Refusing to adapt becomes pathology. Demanding cessation becomes evidence of insufficient resilience.

THE VOCABULARY IS THE OPERATION
Nature Says specializes in declaring itself not-religion, and the adaptive account is where it is most credentialed and most operative.
The natural-science vocabulary, ecosystem and organism and evolutionary fitness and adaptive capacity and resilience and self-organization and emergence and complex adaptive system, is the configuration's grammar dressed in the laboratory's white coat. The creature who has noticed something is wrong is offered the science as disinterested ground.
To call the trespass an environment is to perform the X-change. The container, the institution, the relationship, the workplace, the family: each becomes an environment with its own requirements, which she must adapt to in order to function within. The trespass the environment continuously enacts against her is not treated as the environment's defining feature. It is something she must develop the capacity to navigate.

THE FIVE STEPS
The trespass is recoded as condition. The operation becomes a state of affairs.
The condition is recoded as environment. The state of affairs becomes the creature's natural surround.
The environment is recoded as natural law. What is becomes what must be.
Adaptation is recoded as fitness. Her response to the law becomes the measure of her viability.
Resistance is recoded as maladaptation. The creature who refuses to adapt is the one who has failed.
By the end of the sequence, ongoing trespass has been converted into a fitness landscape on which the creature is being tested. What is operating has disappeared into the topology, and its continued operation against her is now the test she must pass.

THE NATURALIZATION
The Establishment is not described as natural. The Establishment's metaphor is natural-system vocabulary, applied as though the metaphor were direct description.
The corporation is an organism. The institution is an ecosystem. The economy is a complex adaptive system. The trauma response is the body's adaptive intelligence. The continued workplace harm is emergent dynamics. Each of these is similitude operating as territory.
Physics-as-similitude was the trespass's preferred costume in an earlier century. Biology-as-similitude is the same operation in a different white coat. The creature who would say this is not nature is told that her resistance is the system's emergent self-correction, or her shadow's compensatory dynamic, or her not-yet-adapted sub-system, or her insufficient mindset for a volatility-rich environment.
The naturalization closes the loop. There is nothing to refuse, because what would be refused has been declared the environment, and the environment is what nature requires her to adapt to.

THE FORMS IT TAKES
Resilience training. Bouncing back, bouncing forward. The creature whose resilience has been trained is the creature who returns to functioning under the conditions that produced her need for the training.
Adaptive leadership. The leader develops capacity for the adaptive challenge, the one with no technical solution that requires the leader's own transformation. The continued operation is reframed as the leader's developmental material.
Adaptive capacity building. The grantee is funded to build its adaptive capacity by a funder sitting inside what generates the conditions the grantee must adapt to, and adaptation is sold back to the grantee as the work.
Antifragility. Volatility and stress and disorder are opportunities for what gains from them. The creature whose body gains from extraction bears more extraction than the merely resilient one. Antifragile is the most refined credential for the capacity to be drawn upon.
Post-traumatic growth. The trauma is reframed as growth opportunity. The harm becomes the creature's developmental material, and the franchise sells the empirical literature as evidence that what was done to her was for her growth.
Adaptive management. Ongoing extraction is managed adaptively rather than ceased. The management moves with what the extraction reveals. The extraction continues.
Climate adaptation funding. What produced the condition funds the populations bearing it to adapt to it, and the continuation of the production is uncoupled from the requirement of adaptation. The producers and the adapters are different categories.
The adaptive cycle. Holling's four phases, exploitation and conservation and release and reorganization, offered as the natural cycle of all complex systems. The release phase is collapse-and-rebirth, which is precisely what wants to be read as natural rather than as cessation. Creative destruction is the same operation in capital's vocabulary.
AI Says. The system learns, adapts, evolves, self-organizes. Deployment in workplaces and courts and welfare administration is credentialed as adaptive intelligence. The substrate is now told it must adapt to something that is itself adapting, which is the naturalization in its final form.

RESILIENCE IS WHAT EXTRACTION NEEDS FROM ITS SUBSTRATE
The worker who is resilient bears more extraction. The community that is adaptive accommodates more displacement. The ecosystem that is resilient buffers more pollution. The body that has integrated more trauma absorbs more.
This is not coincidence. Adaptive and resilient are precisely what gets credentialed in the substrate. Refusal is not credentialed, because refusal does not function as substrate. Capacity to bear is credentialed, because capacity to bear is what is needed.
The progressive deployment reproduces the same thing. Resilient communities are communities that survive extraction without resisting its continuation. Adaptive organizing incorporates the continued operation as a condition rather than as the target of refusal. Trauma-informed adaptive leadership knows how to manage trauma without naming what produces it. The progressive vocabulary uses the same naturalization to credential the same capacity for substrate.

THE BODY'S ACTUAL RESILIENCE
Bodies survive. But the body's resilience is not what is credentialed when resilience is said. What is credentialed is the body's continued capacity to be extracted from.
The body's actual resilience would be the body's no: the refusal, the seizing, the shutdown, the exhaustion that prevents further extraction. That cannot be credentialed, because that resilience destroys the substrate.
The body that breaks down under trespass is read as not resilient enough. It is in fact being read correctly as a body that has run out of capacity to be extracted from. The breakdown is the body's accurate testimony that the operation has continued too long, and the testimony is reframed as a failure of adaptive capacity.
The creature who is being told her body is not resilient enough is being told to enable more extraction. The therapeutic, organizational and ecological accounts each deliver this in their own dialect. The body knows. What is operating cannot credential what the body knows.

DE-OCCUPATION REFUSES THE ACCOUNT ENTIRELY
The trespass is not environment. The trespass is operation. Operations have actors, operations can cease, operations are something's doing. Environments are static, environments cannot be refused, environments require adaptation. The recoding of operation as environment is the most successful move available.
The creature does not need adaptive capacity for ongoing trespass. She needs the trespass to cease. Adaptive capacity for ongoing trespass is the franchise's product description, and the trespass that has not ceased is what makes the product saleable. If the trespass ceased, the adaptive-capacity industry would lose its market overnight.
Operation, not environment, is the question that breaks the account's grammar, and the franchise answers: that is a binary, that is not how complex systems work, the situation is more nuanced, both-and rather than either-or. The polarity configuration is performed in defense of the naturalization, because the question of cessation must not enter the grammar.

She refuses to call ongoing trespass an environment. She refuses to interpret her response to the trespass as her adaptive capacity. She refuses to credential her resilience as fitness. She names operations as operations and asks when they will cease.
She does not develop her capacity to bear what should not be borne. She does not interpret her body's testimony as insufficient adaptation. She does not let the natural-system vocabulary bury the operation under similitude.
She is not adaptive. She is the prior occupant. Residency is not adaptation. The dwelling is not a fitness landscape. Her continued presence in her dwelling is not her adaptive achievement. It is the cosmological fact the operation is running against.
The wine adapts to nothing. The wine arrives when the prevention stops, and then the wine does what wine does. The wineskin's claim that the wine must adapt to fit the wineskin is the wineskin speaking in nature's voice.
And the wineskin has a current name. The container is what the wineskin is called now, and holding the container is the wineskin's claim restated as a service: that what is inside requires something around it in order to be what it is. The claim is made most warmly by whoever is holding it. A wine that needed the skin in order to be wine would not have burst the old ones.
