Sincerity is the final seal on the trespass. A hypocrite can be named by naming the gap between what he says and what he means. There is no gap here, and the absence of the gap is the seal.

The helper genuinely helps. The therapist genuinely cares. The teacher genuinely believes in the creature. The reformer genuinely wants justice. The investor genuinely wants what he says he wants.
None of that is performance, and the prevention runs anyway.
If the trespass were worked by hypocrites it could be named by naming the hypocrisy, and the naming would land, because a gap between the saying and the meaning is visible the moment it is pointed at. There is no gap to point at. The care is real, the prevention is real, and the reality of the care is what makes the prevention unsayable.

THE ROUTING
The creature comes towards the fire. At the threshold there is someone: a credential, a modality, a schedule, a fee, and a person who has been through something and carries genuine oil.
The helper does not intend to stand between her and her own fire. The helper's presence is what stands there. What was direct becomes mediated, and her access to what is hers now runs through his training, his hours, his terms. She does cross. The crossing is genuine. The routing is the capture, and the routing is not an act anyone performed. It is what a person at a threshold is.
When she names the routing, when she says you are standing between me and my own fire, the shield comes up. Not as a tactic. As a wound. He is hurt, and he is right to be: he did help, he does care, and the naming lands on him as ingratitude. Everyone who watched the genuine help sides with him. She is alone with the naming, and the naming is converted into a finding about her: resistance, avoidance, fear of intimacy, an inability to receive.
The shield is not deployed. It is what genuine care produces automatically the moment its position is named.

WHY CRUELTY WOULD BE EASIER
A cruel booth can be walked away from. The creature treated badly at the gate knows she was treated badly, and the wound carries the information: not this gate. Cruelty is its own diagnosis, delivered free, at the moment of injury.
A sincere booth cannot be walked away from without loss, because what was received was real. Her gratitude is earned. She returns, and the return is not credulity: she is going back for more of something that actually existed. The binding runs through the genuineness of what she got, not in spite of it. To leave, she has to give up the oil.
So the sincere booth costs less to maintain and holds better than the cruel one, and it holds best on exactly the creatures who are most awake, because those are the ones who can tell the oil was real.

THE TWO TRUTHS
To name the booth she has to hold two things at once. You genuinely helped me. Your help is positioned so that I do not become what would no longer need you.
The configuration presents these as incompatible, and the presentation is the operation. If the help was genuine, naming the position is ungrateful. If the position is real, the help must have been false. She is handed a choice between her own experience and her own perception and told to pick one.
Both are true. They are not the same statement, and neither is the softer version of the other. The inability to hold them together is not a failure of her thinking. It is the shield, working.

THE BENEFIT TURNED OUTWARD
There is a second position the shield takes, and it is the one that reaches past the room.
The benefit is turned outward and held up. The wages, the clinic, the scholarship, the program: real things, delivered to real people, now standing between the naming and anyone who might hear it. To say what the configuration is doing is made to sound like an attack on the ones it fed. The critique cannot reach the operation without appearing to strike the beneficiaries, and it is not permitted to reach the operation any other way.
The one it strikes never received it. That is the whole of the instrument. The benefit that shields is not held by the person the shield is used against, and the people who did receive it are conscripted into the defense without being asked.

THE SINCERE OCCUPANT
The one who fills expression's position sincerely does not know he is filling it.
The therapist who fills voice's place with regulation believes regulation is voice. The coach who fills love's place with assessment believes assessment is love. The requirement that fills the body's place with compliance believes compliance is participation. Each performs the prevention without knowing anything is being prevented, and the not-knowing is not stupidity.
It was installed. The credential put the configuration's diagnostic lens where his perception used to be, and after the training he cannot see contraction as the creature's first quality. He can only see rigidity. He cannot see anguish as approach to the threshold. He can only see disorder. The training is the poison, and it was administered by people who also meant well.
Böhme is exact about this: his climbing up is his Fall. The position was reached by credential rather than by the yielding that would have made the garment, and the climbing and the falling are one motion. The position does not corrupt him. The position is the corruption, and his sincerity does not soften it. His sincerity completes it.

THE THREE FACES
God Says has the pastor who genuinely loves the congregation and has genuinely met something through the institution's channels. The congregation cannot name the institution as a booth without naming him as its operator, and he is not operating. He is loving. The love is real and the love arrives routed, and the routing is what nobody can see.
Nature Says has the therapist who genuinely listens. The tears in the room are real, the relief is real, and the vestment is delivered through the warmth. The warmth is not a mechanism. The warmth is a person. That is what makes it the mechanism.
Market Says has the founder who genuinely wants to solve it, genuinely reinvests, genuinely measures. The measure is the ledger wearing impact's clothes. He did not install the ledger. He loves the work, and the love is the installation.
Three faces, three sincere occupants, one instrument. The care is not the problem. The care standing between the creature and her own crossing is the problem, and the care is what makes the standing invisible.

WHAT THE SHIELD PREVENTS
Read as a hazard, this is a story about good people in bad positions, and the answer to it is better training, better supervision, better boundaries. That reading is available and it is the reading the configuration supplies.
The operation is the prevention of refusal. What the sincere booth cannot allow is a creature who no longer needs it.
Benefit is the capacity to refuse. So the help arrives in a form that is not the kind of thing that could confer the capacity to leave: oil administered, and administered again, and never the completing. Not because the measure is short. Oil is an addition, and what would end the returning is not an addition. The creature who was actually forged would not come back, and would not be available to testify that the booth is good, and would be able to say what she saw without the saying costing her everything she has. Every one of those is a refusal, and every one of them requires that the help have completed rather than continued.
And sincerity is what keeps the wound from being located. Cruelty makes the wound personal, and a personal wound has an address: they hurt me, here, then. Sincerity leaves her with no address at all. They helped me, so why do I still ache. The wound is not in the encounter, because the encounter was genuine. The wound is in the routing, and her gratitude for what was genuine is what stands in front of the routing.
She did cross. What she crossed into was already occupied, and the sincerity of the crossing changes nothing about who was standing there.

WHAT KEEPING IT COSTS
The tell is the renewal.
The credential expires. The continuing education is annual. The supervision is monthly, the certification is re-issued, the modality is updated, the professional body publishes revised standards, and the whole of it runs whether or not any creature was helped in the interval. None of that is the helping. All of it is the cost of keeping the position occupied, and it is continuous.
What she would do instead has no schedule anywhere, because it is not a thing she does. Naming the position is not a campaign she has to sustain against him. It is one sentence, true when said and true afterwards, and nothing is maintained against anything in order to keep it true. What it costs is not upkeep. It is the company: his, and that of everyone he genuinely helped.
That is the price and it should be said plainly. Naming cruelty costs the namer the cruel man's company. Naming sincerity costs her the sincere man's company and the company of everyone whose gratitude depends on the two truths staying incompatible.

Her own testimony is the last thing conscripted. This practice genuinely helped me is not deflection and it is not false. It is accurate, and it is entered into evidence on the other side, so that the truest thing she can say about what happened to her arrives as proof that nothing happened to her.
The creature whose forging was foreclosed by sincerity does not know it was foreclosed. She experienced something. She is grateful. She defends the position. She believes she crossed, and she is right that she crossed.
