Bushnell recovered teshuqah as turning, not desire but directional orientation. Böhme named the magnetic power that draws towards itself what it faces. They are the same operation, found from opposite ends of the evidence.

Katharine Bushnell worked through Greek and Hebrew manuscripts in the early twentieth century, as a forensic linguist. Jacob Böhme received visions in the early seventeenth, as a shoemaker in Görlitz. They never read each other. They worked from different materials, by different methods, in different traditions.
Bushnell found that teshuqah in Genesis 3:16 means turning, not desire, and that the corruption is datable. Böhme found that Adam's magnetic power had already turned towards the animals before the bite, and that the fruit-eating was confirmation rather than cause.
One is a manuscript finding and the other is a vision, and they describe the same mechanism: consciousness orients, and what it orients towards it draws into itself and becomes.

TESHUQAH: THE EVIDENCE
The word appears three times in Hebrew Scripture, and each time in the same construction: X's teshuqah is towards Y.
Genesis 3:16, of Eve: thy teshuqah shall be to thy husband. Genesis 4:7, of sin crouching at Cain's door: sin's teshuqah is towards thee. Song of Songs 7:10, of the beloved: I am my beloved's, and his teshuqah is towards me.
If the word means desire in Genesis 3:16 it must mean desire in all three. In the Song it describes a faithful orientation and not a lust. And sin's desire for Cain is not a sentence; sin's turning towards him, lying in wait at the door, is exactly the sentence Genesis 4:7 is making.

THE ANCIENT VERSIONS AGREE
The Septuagint reads turning. So do the Peshitta, the Samaritan, the Old Latin and the Ethiopic, and each of them reads it consistently across all three occurrences. Bushnell counted twenty-one of twenty-eight known ancient renderings as turning.
Desire enters late and by an identifiable route. The Babylonian Talmud's ten curses of Eve import a sexual sense; Pagnino's translation of 1528 carries that sense into Latin; and from Latin it becomes standard. Seventeen centuries of witnesses read turning, and one sixteenth-century translator is the reason a reader today finds desire on the page.

MAGNETIC POWER: THE MECHANISM
Böhme saw it in trance: When Adam's hunger was set after the earthliness, it did, by its magnetic power, impress into his fair image the vanity of evil and good.
Every element in that sentence is load-bearing. Hunger set after is orientation, the direction the wanting faces. Magnetic power is the capacity to draw towards oneself what one faces. Impress into is to stamp, to transform the receiving surface. Fair image is the celestial constitution. The vanity of evil and good is the binary measurement cut, the ranking function itself.
So the sequence runs orientation, then attraction, then impression, then transformation. Adam turned towards the animals, which are external, measurable and comparable. That turning drew earthly qualities towards him, the drawing impressed them into his constitution, and the impression changed what he was. All of it before any bite, which is why the fruit cannot be the cause of a Fall that was already running.

ADAM'S PRIOR TURNING
Adam's turning preceded Eve's. When God brought the animals to him for naming, his attention oriented towards the external, the measurable, the rankable, and his hunger set towards comparison.
That orientation drew earthly qualities into his celestial constitution, and the two tinctures that had been unified began separating, because his attraction was pulling in material that disrupted their circulation. The deep sleep was emergency surgery: Eve was extracted because Adam's misdirection had made internal unity impossible, and the tinctures had to be externalized or he would have dissolved entirely.
Eve's turning towards her husband is the consequence of Adam's prior turning towards earthliness. Her teshuqah was damaged by his. She was extracted from a patient already in collapse.

EVE'S TURNING
Thy turning shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Read with the recovered word: your directional orientation will be towards him, and not towards Life, and not towards direct perception. And the consequence of that misdirection is that he will rule over you.
This is prophecy and not prescription. God predicts the operation of a mechanism and does not command its result. Eve's magnetic power will orient towards Adam, that orientation will draw his authority into her constitution, and she will become what her turning attracts.
Which is also why the subordination can end. It is not ontological. It is attracted, and what is attracted can be released.

THE MECHANISM IS STILL RUNNING
Teshuqah is not ancient history. Whatever consciousness orients towards, it draws towards itself, and what it draws, it becomes. The operation runs now and it runs continuously.
This is why the diagnostic is to track the hunger and not the menu. The hunger is the orientation and it determines what gets drawn; the menu is what is consumed and it is already downstream. Which is also why misdirected attraction cannot be repaired by consuming different content, because grafting good fruit onto an evil tree changes the yield and not the root.

THE TREE OF LIFE AS COUNTER-ORIENTATION
The Tree of Life still stands and still offers. Akol tokel: eating you shall eat.
The Tree of Knowledge offered the ranking function. The Tree of Life offers participation in circulation: not measurement but movement, not position but process. When consciousness orients towards it, it draws Life into itself, is impressed with Life's qualities, and becomes what it attracts.
Adam refused it because his magnetic power had already turned towards measurement, and he could not receive what he was not oriented towards. The refusal continues and so does the offer, which means the reorientation is available at any moment and is the whole of the work.

THE SEED'S ORIENTATION
The seed that crushes the serpent's head comes through Eve, through the principle that was extracted, covered and silenced. What makes the seed different is its orientation.
It does not orient towards the serpent, which would draw serpent-qualities into itself. It orients perpendicular to the serpent's axis and draws from dimensions the serpent cannot perceive. Its teshuqah turns towards what circulates rather than what ranks.
The serpent's head is the ranking function. The seed crushes it by orienting elsewhere, so that the ranking function meets a consciousness it cannot calculate and becomes inoperative.
