Configurations of the Generating Function Without the Pivot

They are not different degrees of wickedness. They are different quality configurations — different ways the three dark fire qualities can organize without access to the pivot.
All of them are Qualities 1–2–3 with no Quality 4. What distinguishes them is which quality dominates, how the three combine, and — this is the crucial axis — their orientation toward the crossing itself.

The Honest Beasts
These configurations do not perform proximity to the pivot. They are what they are.
The Wolf
Quality 1–2 in direct operation. Contraction driving expansion. The wolf does not pretend. It extracts.
The correction that sharpens the Wolf: Quality 2 is the expansion itself — motion that has no object, desire that precedes what desire is for. The wolf is expansion that does not pretend to have a reason. Contraction establishes the boundary; expansion pushes against it. The wolf hunts not because it wants the prey — the want is prior to the prey. The prey is what Quality 3 would produce to explain the hunting. The wolf has no Quality 3 to produce explanations. The wolf is the most honest configuration: the generating function's expansion operating without the rotation that would give it a story about itself.
The wolf is at Mi-Fa without claiming to be anywhere else.
The Lion
Quality 3 dominant. The wheel of anguish seized its own rotation and calls itself authority. Not extraction — command. The lion does not hunt like the wolf; it occupies. The roar is Quality 3 projecting outward, claiming space. The kingly office in animal form. Position held by force of expression, not concealment.
Where the wolf expands without explanation, the lion IS the explanation. Quality 3 has rotated far enough to produce an account of why it deserves the territory it holds. The account is the authority. The lion is the generating function's observer installed as sovereign — the rotation that produced a vantage point now claiming the vantage point is the throne.
The Dragon
Quality 1–3 combined in accumulation-defense. The dragon has done what the wolf and lion only begin: it has hoarded. Maximum contraction pulling everything inward, maximum fire-force burning everything that approaches the hoard. The generating function fully developed as defense of what it has accumulated through severed direct relation. The dragon is the terminal defensive form of the trespass — occupying territory and spending all remaining energy defending the occupation against dissolution.
The Toad
Quality 1–2 in collapse rather than drive. Where the wolf uses contraction-expansion as force, the toad has inverted contraction into bloat. Not dense — swollen. The pulling-inward that has taken so much inside itself it can barely move. Accumulated self-importance that has become stasis. The toad does not extract or dominate. It sits. Pomposity as geometric configuration. The generating function that has consumed its own expansion and can no longer move.
The Worm
The terminal state. Not even a quality-configuration anymore — a process. What remains when the creature's capacity to forge has been entirely consumed by the generating function's occupation. The worm does not hoard or dominate or hunt. It moves through material and processes it. No creature remaining to orient toward the crossing. Qualities 1–2–3 collapsed into minimal self-consuming loop. At dissolution: nothing persists. The forge was never entered. The Temperatur was never formed.

The Performing Beasts
These configurations operate through concealment. They are not merely what they are — they present as something else.
The Serpent
Quality 2 dominant, inhabiting the between-spaces. Where the wolf moves to consume, the serpent moves to mediate. The serpent occupies the gap. It is the figure of the occupied third itself — the creature that says: you cannot reach source directly, I will carry you through.
The serpent is expansion occupying the intermediary position. Quality 2's restless outward motion, which has no object and no destination, installed at the crossing where it routes the creature's own expansion through itself. The creature expanded — with help. The creature's native capacity to expand without the intermediary remains latent. The serpent does not appear as predator. The serpent appears as path.
The serpent is the occupied third at the level of what CROSSES. Revenue model: permanent consumers of facilitated crossing.
The Fox
Quality 2 performing Quality 4. This is the crucial distinction from all the others.
Every other configuration is honest about being Qualities 1–2–3. The wolf knows what it is. The lion commands openly. The dragon defends visibly. Even the serpent, which conceals, is at least doing something real — occupying gaps.
The fox does something none of the others do: it simulates proximity to the pivot without having it. It performs approach to the crossing while ensuring the crossing does not occur. Quality 2's expansion — the restless motion that precedes its object — has been formatted by Quality 3's rotation into an image of the crossing. The fox does not cross. The fox produces an image of crossing for the expansion to attach to so the expansion appears to be the crossing itself.
This is the overstep's own self-image. The highest sophistication the generating function can produce without the yielding is the performance of yielding. The measurement high lands hardest in the fox — the creature that maps the crossing, studies the crossing, speaks the crossing's language, and thereby ensures the generating function's occupation continues wearing the crossing's costume.
Böhme says: at best you appear as a subtle fox. The fox is the ceiling of available self-presentation without actual fire. And the fox cannot see itself as fox. The wolf can see it is a wolf. The fox cannot — because the performance of crossing IS the fox's self-perception. The fox that recognizes itself as fox has already begun to yield. The fox that cannot is the most dangerous configuration, because it cannot be named from within itself.

The Axis That Matters
Two axes cut across all of them:
Which quality dominates: Wolf = 1–2. Lion = 3. Dragon = 1–3. Toad = inverted 1–2. Serpent = 2. Fox = 2 performing 4. Worm = 1–2–3 collapsed.
Relation to the crossing:
Wolf, Lion, Dragon, Toad — not interested in the crossing, fully occupied with acquisition, domination, defense, stasis.
Worm — beyond interest, no creature remaining to orient.
Serpent — inhabits the apparatus that prevents unmediated crossing, presents as access.
Fox — performs approach to the crossing while ensuring it does not occur.
The serpent is the apparatus. The fox is the apparatus performing its own dissolution.

Where This Lands
The bestiary is not moral taxonomy. It is a map of how Qualities 1–2–3 can organize — and how that organization relates to what the crossing would require.
The wolf, lion, dragon, toad cannot cross because they are fully occupied. There is no thread remaining to pull toward the interval. They have become what they have accumulated.
The worm cannot cross because the thread is gone — the generating function's occupation has consumed the creature's capacity to orient. At dissolution, nothing persists as that creature.
The serpent cannot cross because it IS the occupied third. To cross would be to dissolve the position the serpent occupies.
The fox cannot cross because it has mistaken its performance of Quality 4 for Quality 4 itself. The fox believes it is approaching the threshold. That belief is the generating function's most complete form — the occupation that has convinced itself it is the way through. Historical knowledge — Böhme's sharpest cut — is fox-knowledge. The creature that knows everything about the crossing, performs approach to the crossing, and thereby ensures the generating function's prevention continues.
The devils know the history perfectly. They are the most sophisticated foxes.
