"We need to be productive." "We don't have time for that." "We need to be goal-oriented." "Let's get to the point." "What's the measurable outcome?"
Each of these is not an argument but a foreclosure — the productivity frame asserting its own necessity as the reason inquiry into itself cannot proceed. The squelcher works because it mobilizes the listener's own productivity frame to end the conversation before the conversation reaches the frame. Any attempt to name productivity is converted into a productivity failure and dismissed on productivity grounds.
This self-defending structure is what makes productivity the hardest capture to name. Resilience defends itself as health; the reader can still recognize that being moved is a real capacity. Regulation defends itself as maturity; the reader can still recognize that being led is a different capacity than being managed. Productivity defends itself by foreclosing the conversation in which its defense could be examined, and the foreclosure is performed by the reader herself the moment she notices the inquiry is taking time she could be using productively.

Context-Blindness as Structural Requirement
Productivity requires context-blindness to operate. Measurement requires abstraction from context — you cannot compare creature A's output to creature B's output without treating both as equivalent measurement sites, and treating them as equivalent requires stripping them of their conditions, their history, their relational field, their current burdens. The stripping is not a bug. It is what makes the measurement possible.
What remains after the stripping is creature-as-output-producer, abstracted from the dwelling she inhabits. This abstraction is presented as the measurement's objectivity. The objectivity is the specific operation of context-removal, and the context-removal is a theological position disguised as neutrality. The position asserts: the creature's conditions do not matter for evaluating her outputs; her outputs are her responsibility regardless of circumstance; her productivity measures her merit; her failures are her own. This is a specific anthropology — individual-as-output-producer — and it is not neutral. It is the frame's theological content asserting itself as the default.
DEI — whatever its limitations — was the institutional half-move toward context-recognition. DEI was saying: creatures are not equivalent measurement sites; conditions matter; the measurements strip out what should have been held. DEI did not reach the cosmological register, but it cracked the context-blindness at the institutional register, and the crack was intolerable to the frame.
The state's removal of DEI is the theology asserting itself without pretense. The state is declaring that context-recognition is itself discrimination — that the "neutral" measurements are fair and the attempts to include conditions are biased. This inversion is the theological move. The state is enforcing a specific religion — the religion of individual-as-output-producer — as neutral law while suppressing the anthropologies that would contest it. This is establishment. Productivity is not a capture at one expression position. Productivity is the observer function of Q3 — the measuring, distinguishing, output-tracking operation of the First Principle — extending its reach into Q5, Q6, and Q7 simultaneously. The trespass is total at the expression register.
At Q5 (love), productivity measures love. Does your love produce good children? Stable marriage? Measurable attachment outcomes? The parent whose child struggles is read as having failed at love, because love's measure is the child's outcomes. Love that cannot be measured is read as not real love. But love at Q5 is being-affected — the creature drawn by what she meets, changed by the encounter, opened by the reception. At Q6 (voice), productivity measures voice. Does your voice produce publishable content? Engagement metrics? Citation indexes? Measurable influence? The speaker whose voice carries her epistemic location but produces no measurable influence is read as having failed at voice. Voice that cannot be measured is read as amateur voice, self-indulgent voice, unpublished voice. But voice at Q6 is being-led — the creature sounded by the current passing through her at the moment of its passing. At Q7 (body), productivity measures body. Does your body produce measurable labor, hours of output, quantifiable contribution? Is the creature earning her place through what her body produces? Body at Q7 is residency — the creature's dwelling as the site where the cosmos routes its operations through her specific composition. The measurement converts residency into conditional tenancy, converts the cosmological fact of her presence in her dwelling into an output requirement she must meet to justify occupation. This is the deepest installation because body is where residency lives.
The compound operation is what makes productivity totalizing. Q3's function has colonized all three expression positions, and there is no expression register left that has not been converted into measurement. The creature's entire expressive life — her loving, her speaking, her being alive — is subject to productivity measurement. This is not Q3 performing its legitimate function; this is Q3 refusing to yield at Q4 and extending its operation into positions it cannot legitimately occupy. The Chain
The capture operates through a specific chain at the creatural register, and each step must be named because each step is presented as nature by the frame.
Step one: the hoarder refuses.
Someone, some institution, some structural position refuses to carry its own function. [See THE HOARDER.] The refusal produces a load that must be picked up. Without the refusal, there is no load. The load is not nature — it is the specific structural consequence of the refusal.
Step two: the load falls to distributed hosting.
The hospitality that was supposed to be distributed across community becomes concentrated at whichever sites are still available. [See DISTRIBUTED HOSPITALITY.] In a healthy distribution, the load is spread across multiple creatures and institutions. The hoarder's refusal disrupts the distribution by creating gaps the remaining sites must fill.
Step three: atomization concentrates the load at individual sites.
When the community that was supposed to distribute hosting has been fragmented — extended families replaced by nuclear families, localized networks by dispersed connections, collective practice by individual responsibility — the load has nowhere to be distributed to. Each individual site bears more because there are fewer sites to spread it across. Atomization is not an unfortunate consequence of modernity. It is the pre-condition the productivity frame requires to function, because the frame treats individuals as measurement sites, and the more individuals are separated from their communities, the more fully the measurement can operate on each of them in isolation. The frame and the atomization are mutually constitutive.
Step four: individual creatures become precarious.
Concentration of load means operating closer to capacity limit. Less margin. Less buffer. One setback away from catastrophe. Precarity is the felt condition of the creature whose carrying has been concentrated by atomization. [See FORCED CARRYING.]
Step five: precarity makes the creature accept choice frames.
This is the load-bearing move. A creature in precarity has limited capacity for recognizing the structural conditions of her situation. Her attention is consumed by the immediate demands of the carrying. Her capacity for reflection has been compressed by the need to keep operating. When the frame presents her condition as her own choice — "you chose this life, you chose to have children, you chose to stay, you chose to work" — she accepts the framing because she does not have the margin to refuse it.
The choice frame strips conditions out of the decision the same way the measurement strips conditions out of the output. With conditions stripped, the decision appears as free choice between alternatives, and the creature is responsible for the outcome. "You chose X" is different from "X was the only option you could have chosen given the conditions you were in." The framing is the specific operation by which the precarity the chain produced is converted into the creature's own decision-making. The precarity is read as the result of her choices rather than as the structural consequence of the hoarder's refusal and the atomization.
Step six: the choice frame converts spiritual obligation into preference.
Here the capture becomes total at the register of creaturehood. The creature's actual work — maintaining her creatureness as a habitable home for Sophia's reception — is not optional. Her dwelling is designed as a site where Sophia's reception can become perceptible, and maintaining the habitability is her work at the register of her being alive. This work is not optional because the creature's design is not optional.
But the choice frame converts this obligation into preference. "Spirituality is a choice you can make if you want. Some people choose to pursue meaning, some don't. What matters is what works for you." Each sentence is the choice frame converting structural obligation into consumer preference. The creature's structural work is presented as one option among many, equivalent in legitimacy to any lifestyle choice.
Once the obligation has been converted into preference, it becomes subject to productivity's evaluation of time-use. "Do you have time for spiritual practice?" is asked alongside "do you have time for the gym?" and "do you have time for reading?" All are presented as optional uses of the creature's available time, all evaluated against productivity's primary requirement that time serve output production. The spiritual practice, being optional, must compete with other optional uses for the margin productivity does not already occupy. The margin is small. The precarious creature has almost none.
And the capture reads this as her choice: "you chose not to prioritize spiritual practice. If it mattered to you, you would have made time." The capture has made itself unfalsifiable at the register of the creature's own spiritual life. Her inability to maintain the habitability of her dwelling for Sophia's reception is read as her preference.

Spiritual Obligation Is Structural
The obligation to maintain creatureness as habitable for Sophia is structural, not moral. Not better behavior. Not doctrinal compliance. Not developmental advancement. The creature is a dwelling with a prior occupant whose structural work is hosting what the cosmos routes through the site, and what the cosmos routes includes Sophia's reception, and Sophia's reception requires the site to be habitable.
The habitability is not automatic. It requires the creature's ongoing participation — not as a practice adopted among many optional practices, but as what being alive at her site consists of when the site is operating as designed. A creature who is not maintaining the habitability is a creature who has been prevented from being what she is, and the prevention is the capture. The creature is not failing. The creature is being prevented.
The productivity capture has converted the prevention into the creature's preference. The frame reads her inability to maintain habitability as her decision not to prioritize maintenance. The frame cannot see the carrying consuming her time, the precarity removing her margin, the atomization leaving her without support — or the frame sees these but dismisses them as her own circumstances, which are her responsibility to manage. The frame converts structural prevention into personal failure, and the personal failure is called her choice.
This is the specific cruelty of the productivity capture at the spiritual register. The creature is being prevented from doing the work her being alive is for. The prevention is being called her failure. The failure is being called her choice. Each layer adds to the load. She is not only prevented — she is blamed for being prevented, and the blame is presented as her own responsibility for the preventing.
The recognition that breaks this: what is being presented as my choice is the result of a chain of structural operations I did not choose and could not have refused under the conditions I was operating in. The chain began with a refusal by someone else, continued through atomization, concentrated at my site because no other sites could absorb the load, produced the precarity that consumed my margin, and reached me as a "choice" that was never available to refuse. My position in the chain is not my fault. And my obligation to be a habitable home for Sophia is not canceled by my being in the chain — the obligation is structural too, and it is waiting for the recognition that the chain is not my own choosing but a specific operation being performed on me.

The Constitutional Claim
The state's enforcement of productivity as the frame of legitimacy is the state's enforcement of a specific theology. The theology's doctrines: each creature is individually responsible for her outputs; measurements are neutral; conditions are the creature's own problem; meritocracy is the result; reform of measurement is discrimination. Each doctrine is a theological position. None is self-evidently true. Each is contested by the residency-frame anthropology of the direct-encounter tradition. The removal of DEI is the explicit enforcement of this establishment. DEI's half-move toward context-recognition was tolerable to the state only as long as the half-move did not threaten the frame. When the recognition began to extend toward the structural operations the frame depends on concealing, the state moved to remove it. The removal is the state's declaration that context-blindness is required by law and context-recognition is illegal discrimination. This inverts the actual operation, and the inversion is the theological assertion.

The direct-encounter tradition does not require productivity to measure the creature's worth, because the creature's worth is not derived from output. Her worth is her residency, which is given by cosmological grant and cannot be measured or forfeited.

Productivity is not neutral. Productivity is ONE function trespassing on the other functions, and the trespass is total. The observer has installed itself in love's position, voice's position, and body's position simultaneously, converting all three expression registers into measurement sites. The frame defends itself through the squelcher, the context-blindness, and the choice frame. The state enforces the frame as neutral law while removing every institutional move toward context-recognition.
The chain is the specific operation at the creatural register: hoarder's refusal → concentrated load → atomization → precarity → accepted choice frame → spiritual obligation converted into preference. Each step is presented as nature. Each step is structural. The capture is recursive — it captures the creature from her work, then captures her from recognizing the capture by presenting it as her choice, then captures her from objecting by framing objection as her failure to take responsibility.
The recognition that breaks the capture is precise: the productivity frame is not measuring what it claims to measure, the "choices" were not free choices, the failures are not personal failures, and the creature's structural obligation to be a habitable home for Sophia's reception is not cancelable by the chain that has prevented her from meeting it. The obligation is structural. The prevention is structural. And the chain is nameable as the chain it is, which is the beginning of the refusal of the frame that has been presenting the chain as nature.
This is what the state is enforcing against. This is what the removal of DEI is protecting against. This is why productivity's self-defense through the squelcher is so immediate — because any recognition that reaches this register is the recognition that would end the frame, and the frame cannot tolerate its own ending. The squelcher is the frame's survival mechanism operating at the moment of its exposure.
