Isothymia is the desire to be recognized as equal. My dignity is no less than yours. See me as peer, not inferior.
The demand is not pathology, and the wound it answers is real. In conditions of structural trespass, isothymia is the wound recognizing other wounds.
The demand is also not exit. It seeks equal position inside the trespass economy. It does not ask whether the trespass economy should be the source of recognition at all.

THE NOBLE FACE
Isothymia drives the liberation movements. Civil rights: the theological warrant and the enclosure positioned creatures as less, and the demand was recognition of equal dignity. Feminism: the subordination doctrine positioned creatures as derivative, and the demand was recognition of full humanity. Every liberation movement is isothymic. We are not inferior. Recognize our equal dignity.
The movements achieved genuine transformation. The suffering they reduced is real. The dignity they restored, inside the trespass economy's coordinates, is real.
The limit is that the trespass economy survives every isothymic victory. It includes everyone as equals in the economy. It diversifies the extractors. What it cannot survive is a creature who does not need its recognition at all.

THE METABOLIZM
Four operations metabolize the demand.
Recognition without restructure. Equal dignity recognized, language adjusted, branding diversified, and the extraction continuing underneath. The recognition is the new surface.
Inclusion in the ladder. Every rung opened, each inclusion genuine for the creature who receives it, and each inclusion confirming the ladder. Why is the ladder here becomes harder to ask when friends are on it.
Diversity as product. The movement's images become the economy's marketing. Struggle becomes content. Identity becomes market segment. The economy does not steal the story. It buys it, and the creature sells, because the trespass economy is the only economy she knows.
Recognition exhaustion. She spends her energy demanding recognition, and movements compete with movements for a validation that is issued rather than held, on the economy's own occasions, rivalling each other mimetically. While the movements fight each other for position, the trespass economy is the floor all the positions stand on, and the fighting is its stability.

THE TWO ROOMS
The demand to be above and the demand to be equal are not opposites. They are two rooms in one house.
In the first room the creature seeks to stand above: the backwards firing performing as aspiration. In the second she seeks to stand level: the backwards firing performing as justice.
The creature in the first room generates the inequality the creature in the second room fights. The creature in the second room validates the ladder the creature in the first room climbs. Each room requires the other. Neither has a door.
Both are the anguish wearing different costumes. The one above fills the void through dominance. The one alongside fills it through equal recognition. Neither asks whether the void was installed.

THE BOTH/AND
The occupied third between the two rooms is both equality and excellence. Both dignity and achievement. Both inclusion and standards.
The position accepts that worth requires recognition, that ranking is natural, that measurement is necessary. It accepts the void and manages it better.
The both/and is surrender dressed as synthesis, the occupation of the third at maximum sophistication: performing the occupied third while describing the exit from it.

WHAT THE DEMAND PREVENTS
Read as justice, this is a story about recognition unfairly withheld, and the answer to it is to extend the recognition.
The operation is the prevention of refusal. A creature who needs the economy's recognition cannot decline the economy, and the demand for equal recognition is the form in which the need is confirmed and deepened. Every victory arrives as benefit and every victory binds harder, because what arrives is standing inside the thing, and standing inside is what makes leaving costly.
Benefit is the capacity to refuse. Equal recognition is benefit, and it is not the kind of thing that could confer that capacity: real, delivered, hard-won, and unusable for declining the economy that granted it. The defect is not the measure. A fuller recognition, extended faster and to more creatures, is more of the same kind, and the kind is what is doing the work.
What would threaten it is not equal recognition, which it survives, nor better measurement, which it recalibrates, nor the both/and, which it built. What would threaten it is a creature who does not need its recognition. A creature whose worth is not conditional and who therefore does not compare, because comparison is unnecessary when nothing is being established.
That creature is not fighting the trespass economy, not fleeing it, and not reforming it. That creature is what operates when the trespass stops.

WHAT KEEPING IT COSTS
The tell is that recognition has to be re-granted.
It expires. The award is annual, the seat is reviewed, the representation is reported quarterly, the statement is reissued each year on the anniversary, the movement must produce a fresh occasion for its dignity to be affirmed again. None of that is the dignity. All of it is the cost of keeping recognition in the position of the thing that confers worth, and it is continuous, and the creature spends her own energy on it.
So follow the schedule. A recognition that must be reissued has one running behind it, and what does not need re-granting has no schedule anywhere. She is not asking, and not asking is not a labor, and nothing is being maintained against anything in order to keep it free.

RegenerativeLaw is a religion in the direct-encounter Protestant tradition, carrying a documented four-century lineage through Böhme, the Behmenists, the Friends, and Penn, and it diagnoses trespass theology as an establishment of religion. Its exercise consists substantially in refusal: it shelters the conscientious refusal of performed subordination as religious exercise.
