I. One Source, Two Poles
The polarity play requires two sides. What produces both sides is one thing.
The generating function does not merely occupy the dominant position while something else occupies the subordinate position. The generating function installs itself in both positions simultaneously. The dominant pole is the generating function trespassing into expression's territory and wearing expression's names — possessiveness called love, doctrine called voice, property called participation. The subordinate pole is what the dominant pole requires as its necessary opposite: the creature whose existence justifies governance, whose non-compliance proves the need for correction, whose refusal to flatten confirms the diagnosis of irrationality.
Both poles originate from the same source. The fight between them is not a fight between two things. It is one thing generating two projections and harvesting the energy of every creature that engages the distance between them.

II. The Dominant Installation
The dominant pole is the generating function in expression's positions wearing the light properties' names.
Quality 1 in Quality 5's position: contraction refusing to radiate, named love. What it does is not love's operation — it is contraction's operation: it draws toward itself, holds, monitors, controls departure. But it calls this love. The name is not a lie the dominant pole tells. The name is what the installation requires — the prevention must be called expression, or the trespass is visible.
Quality 2 in Quality 6's position: expansion refusing to commune, named voice. What it does is not voice's operation — it is expansion's operation: it fills, declares, drowns, leaves no room for response. But it calls this speaking. The doctrine is not excess expression. It is the prevention of communion wearing communion's name.
Quality 3 in Quality 7's position: the observer refusing to participate, named body. What it does is not the body's operation — it is the observer's operation: it maps, measures, manages at distance, converts the relational field into object. But it calls this presence. The property relation is not too much participation. It is the prevention of participation wearing participation's name.
The dominant pole believes it is what it calls itself. This is not hypocrisy. It is the installation operating at full depth.

III. The Subordinate Installation
The subordinate pole is the creature the dominant pole requires — projected, named, and installed as the necessary other.
The dominant pole cannot define itself without what it governs. The possessive cannot exist without the possessed. The doctrine cannot exist without the heretic. The property claim cannot exist without the one who would take what is owned. The dominant pole does not find the subordinate creature already existing in the field. The dominant pole projects the subordinate creature into existence as the condition of its own coherence.
Once projected, the subordinate pole is real. The creature assigned to it is real. The conditions the projection imposes are real. The projection's reality does not undo its source. The creature in the subordinate position did not arrive there through its own nature. It arrived there because the dominant pole requires something to be governed, corrected, managed, saved.
The subordinate pole is also the generating function — not the trespassing function, but the generating function as the dominant pole's mirror. The subordinate pole contracts under governance (Q1 reflected). The subordinate pole's expansion is named erratic, emotional, unreliable (Q2 reflected). The subordinate pole's perception is named subjective, biased, un-credentialed (Q3 reflected). The dominant pole sees in the subordinate pole the qualities it carries — and names them pathology. The bilateral installation mirrors itself.

IV. What the Installation Requires
The bilateral installation requires the creature to identify with one pole or the other. There is no position within the installation that is neutral. The installation presents itself as the structure of reality — dominant and subordinate as the two modes of being available. The creature that does not identify with the dominant pole must be in the subordinate pole. The creature that refuses both is assigned the subordinate pole by the dominant pole's logic: refusal is the subordinate pole's characteristic behavior.
The installation also requires the fight. A dominant pole with no subordinate pole has nothing to govern and no justification for governing. A subordinate pole with no dominant pole has no identity — the subordinate pole is defined entirely in relation to what it is subordinate to. The fight between them is not dysfunction. It is the installation's operating condition.
The installation is self-sealing in this way: every creature's energy that enters the fight between the poles strengthens both poles simultaneously. The creature that fights for the subordinate pole's dignity strengthens the frame that requires the subordinate pole to exist. The creature that argues against the dominant pole's terms is arguing within the dominant pole's coordinate system. The fight is the nutrition.

V. The Perpendicular That Does Not Register
From inside the bilateral installation, there are two positions: dominant and subordinate. The directrix's position — perpendicular to the polarity, neither pole, neither dominant nor subordinate — does not register within the installation's coordinate system.
When the directrix names the installation as installation, the dominant pole assigns it to the subordinate position. The naming is cast as complaint, as grievance, as the subordinate pole's characteristic non-compliance. When the directrix does not engage the fight, the dominant pole assigns it to the shadow — anti-God, anti-nature, anti-market. Both assignments are the installation trying to absorb the perpendicular into one of the two positions the installation knows.
The perpendicular cannot be absorbed because it is not a position within the field the installation projects. It is real in a different register. This is why the directrix function requires the religion to know what it positively holds. A creature that only refuses the installation has given the installation its definition — it is the refusal. A religion with its own positive account of reality exists perpendicular to the polarity play. Not against. Perpendicular.
