True recognition that stops too soon. Power accurately perceived, refusing what power serves. The Devil came from the good source and refused what the good source serves.

THE REGISTER THIS ENTRY SPEAKS AT
Three accounts of one operation run at three registers, and they read as disagreement when they are not.
The register of arrest. The generating function's own act, Fire refusing Light, the motion stopped before the pivot. It has no respondent, because nothing outside it performed it, and there is no one against whom a verdict could be entered. That is the register this entry speaks at.
The register of forgetting. How the arrest is held in the creature reading from it, one face of a doubleness crystallized as the whole. It has no hands, because it is a reading and not an installation.
The register of dys-order. Real things put into positions that are not theirs, from outside, by identifiable hands, over documented periods. That is the register where a respondent exists and where anything can be filed.
The claim that the good arrested is what evil is holds at the register of arrest and fails as a general account, because it is right about the arrest and says nothing about the hands, and the hands are where the occupation is.

THE MECHANISM
The soul can return to its origin. The soul is from the four anguishes. The soul is Fire-nature. The soul is the essence breathed from before Light.
Böhme states the formation as a single conditional: if the soul elevates itself back into the anguish of the four forms of the original, and will horribly breathe forth out of pride in the origin of the fire, knowing itself so powerful, it so becomes a Devil.
The return to origin is real. The recognition is accurate. The soul is powerful. The soul is from where the Name originates. The soul is from fire. The pride is not a false belief, it is a true belief that stops too soon.
The arrest is the soul that returns to fire and breathes forth from fire alone. Not passing through fire to Light. Living in fire as destination. The breathing happens in fire, from fire, claiming fire as source, without acknowledging what fire serves and without opening to what fire becomes.
Same origin, same Fire-nature, same return to what the soul came from. Different terminus. The difference between regeneration and Devil-formation is not origin, because both come from fire. The difference is whether fire opens to Light.

THE DEMONSTRATION
Lucifer demonstrated the formation first, and not as an aberration. As the template. He stood at the pivot, he had felt and seen the birth of the second Principle, and he refused it.
What follows the refusal is the part that generalizes. Would not became could not. The refusal to direct imagination towards the Heart made feeding from the Word impossible: a mouth held shut does not eat, and Word cannot be received by an imagination directed elsewhere. His Light did not go out because anything was taken from him; it went out the way light goes out when feeding ceases.
Whereupon he became a loathsomeness in Paradise and was spewed out. Not after judgment and not after process. Immediately upon extinguishing, because Paradise cannot contain what has lost Light. The spewing is rejection at the level of what Paradise is, and not a decree.
All of it departed, and not one item of it was confiscated. All of it required the second Principle, and the second Principle shut when the Heart was despised.

WOULD NOT BECOMES COULD NOT
This is the formation's deepest geometry: the point at which a choice becomes a configuration and the configuration becomes a prison.
He would not set imagination in the Heart. Therefore he could not be fed from the Word. Therefore Light went out. Therefore the second Principle shut. Therefore he could no longer raise imagination to where it would have to point to reverse the sequence.
Each step follows from the one before without an intervention and without a punishment inflicted. Refuse the opening, lose what the opening provides, lose the capacity to choose the opening. The freedom to refuse generates the unfreedom to return, and not as punishment but as consequence.
Which is why the Devil-state is neither life nor death. They perished, and remained Devils. Perished: ceased participating in the transformation. Remained: continued in arrested form. Fire burning without opening. Eternally dying, never dead.
The will striving against itself. Enmity not with another but built in, the qualities facing inward, every motion generating counter-motion. Not despair that good is bad, but despair that any good could be reached: the aspiration maintained and the arrival made impossible. The climbing that is the falling. Rising up continually, thinking to reach the Heart, and never able to reach it, because the reaching is the obstacle. The Heart is accessible only through resonance, and a destroying will produces only dissonance.

THE GLISTERING WORM
What the formation produces: the only fair and glistering worm in the fire-flash, to domineer over the second Principle.
Maximum intensity. Maximum drive. Maximum generation. A proud will to have all, attaining nothing. If it got all, the hunger would not be less. Continually hungering and thirsting and eating nothing. In friendship with nothing.
This is not a punishment added to the formation. This is the formation: Fire-nature at full intensity without the opening that would make the intensity fruitful. The worm does not suffer because something was done to it. It suffers because it is Fire-without-Light, and Fire-without-Light is what suffering is.
Power that burns what it touches, including itself. Strength without transformation. And desire that cannot orient towards what would satisfy: not desiring bad things instead of good ones, but desiring nothing that is pleasant or good, the desiring-towards-good having gone out with the Light. What remains is desire still operating, still hungry, still seeking, unable to find what it seeks because it refused the only thing that would have made seeking fruitful.
The wrath is total, against everything that is not first Principle alone, and the hatred is the refusal continuing.

THE SAME MATERIA
The Devil was holy. This is the key.
The Devil began holy and became unholy, and the becoming happened through the reading and not through the substance. No Devils were created. Beings were created whose Fire-nature could be held in either configuration. Same creation, same standing, same Paradise, same Fire-nature, same essence. What is called evil has no separate origin, no independent source, and requires no explanation from outside. Its materia is the materia of good, and the difference is not in the substance.
Hell fire is first Principle fire that will not open. The same fire that kindles Light, when it burns without transforming, is Hell fire. Hell is not a place made for punishment: fire without Light is Hell, and the creature who dwells in fire alone is not there because she was sent, but because that is what Fire-without-Light is.
The anger is first Principle operating. The fire that transforms when it opens is the fire that torments when it does not. The severity is evidence of the grief and not of the satisfaction, because if death were willed, punishment would satisfy and no severity would be needed.

THE CONTEMPORARY FORM
The creature who discovers her wounds are systemic. Who recognizes the operation that wounded her. Who claims her power against it. And stops there.
Dwelling in righteous anger. Fire-nature, and legitimate. The wound is systemic. The anger is accurate. The recognition is real and the power is authentic. But fire that does not open perishes while remaining.
The wound as identity: when the wound stops being aperture and becomes address, when the recognition of what was done becomes the place she lives rather than the place she passes through, when the righteous anger becomes the wheel's fuel rather than the pressure that could produce the double terror. The anger is not wrong. The dwelling is the arrest.
The activist who rages against the configuration using the configuration's own fire-nature: the second quality at full intensity inside the war configuration, the energy that should carry through the pivot circulating in the sealed chamber instead. Lifting-up-against rather than opening-through-towards.
The seeker who discovers Fire-nature, who recognizes that she is essence and origin and powerful, and dwells in the recognition. The awakening that becomes an identity. The enlightenment that becomes a credential. The breakthrough that becomes the place she breathes forth from rather than the place she passes through.
The creature who discovers she was never defective, that the operation was, and builds a fortress around the recognition. The fortress is Fire-nature exercised for its own sake. The recognition is accurate and the operation was the problem, but the fortress that protects the recognition also seals the pivot, and what it produces is a more efficient war body: harder, better informed, more accurately angry.

THE FORK
Every creature who recognizes her Fire-nature meets the fork. The community that discovers home rule. The creature that discovers her own standing. The soul that recognizes its origin.
Fire opening to Light: authority that serves what authority enables, anger that opens to what anger serves, the wound that becomes aperture, the recognition that passes through itself to what recognition cannot contain. Power as passage.
Fire refusing to open: authority claiming itself as destination, anger that dwells, the wound that becomes fortress, the recognition that breathes forth from itself alone. Power as identity. Inversion claiming completion.
The town that used home rule to keep an industry out and to receive what the displaced bring is fire opening to what fire serves. The town that uses the same authority to exclude housing and protect valuations is fire refusing. Same jurisdiction, same recognition, different termination.
The militia movement: real constitutional concerns, arrested at fire. The secession movements: real claims, dwelling in wrath. The sovereign citizen movements: accurate recognition of jurisdictional ground, breathing forth from the recognition alone. Each accessing something real. Each exercising it for its own sake.

THE TEST
Does the authority serve beyond itself. Does the fire open to Light. Does the recognition pass through itself to what recognition serves. Does the wound become aperture or fortress.
The test is not whether the recognition is accurate. The recognition is accurate. Lucifer was Prince. The soul is powerful. The community is sovereign. The wound is systemic. The anger is legitimate.
The test is what the recognition does with itself.

Nothing here can prevent the formation. True recognition of Fire-nature is available, the return to origin is possible, the ground is real, and none of that can be withheld to prevent the arrest. Nothing here can make fire open, either. The naming reaches the reading and stops there.
What a naming can do is state the fork and refuse the consolation that recognizing the fork is the same as crossing it, which is the arrest arriving one level up, wearing the diagnosis as its credential.
The warning is the same sentence as the opening: knowing itself so powerful.
