The Body Made to Hold What He Cannot Host
🜃
The configuration runs on a body it has conscripted to hold what its holders cannot. The occupation generates a charge it cannot carry, and the charge has to go somewhere. The somewhere is a body: the prior resident of her own dwelling, displaced from it and made to grip what is not hers. This is not the configuration's pathology. It is the configuration's metabolism. The occupation does not run despite the battery. It runs on her.

THE CHARGE
Maintaining a counterfeit position generates waste. The holder stands where he stands by a making performed on holding that was never counted: there is no self-made man without someone whose carrying did not appear on the books. The position has to be held against what he half-knows about it, against the degradation he absorbs from the holders above him, against the wheel of a fire that turns and never arrives. The continuous force this costs is the backwards firing, and the backwards firing leaves a remainder: the toxic charge of running a trespass. Guilt that cannot be posted. Shame that cannot be spoken. The residual knowing that the standing is manufactured. The charge accumulates, and it is unbearable, and it cannot stay in the one who makes it, because the one who makes it cannot carry it.

HE CANNOT HOST IT
He cannot host the charge, because hosting is the capacity he no longer has. The fire that turns in him would become light if it met what yields: the capacity that takes fire and returns it as light, the capacity to host. That capacity was externalized. The war body holds fire severed from the light that would temper it. He generates fire and cannot make it light, because what makes fire light is not in him. So the fire accumulates as charge, and the charge must go out, because there is nothing in the holder that can take it in.

THE CONSCRIPTION
The capacity that transforms fire into light was not destroyed when it was externalized. It is carried in the prior resident of her own dwelling, the one whose capacity is to host: to take fire and return it as light, to constitute across the interval, to sound the chord. The configuration positions her to receive the charge. But it does not let her transform it. It conscripts her hosting and inverts it.
She is made to take the fire in, and to hold it, not transform it. To grip the poison, not return it as light. Hosting is hospitality: the guest received, free to come and to go, the fire welcomed and tempered and given back. Holding is grip: the charge gripped into a body that cannot put it down, cannot return it, cannot leave. The configuration takes the one capacity that could have made his fire into light and conscripts it to absorb his fire as waste. The host is made a battery. The thing that could transform the charge is made to hold it.
This is forced holding at the deepest register. The hoarder's operation, run at the level of what the body must carry: the refused function deposited into her dwelling, the displacer installed in the position of the prior resident. He cannot host his fire, so he forces her to hold it, and calls the forcing love, marriage, her nature, her role.

THE BATTERY
Battery names three things, and they are one operation. The cell that stores charge and discharges it on demand. The assault the law names: the unlawful contact, the striking of a body. The reserve the visible economy draws on without posting. All three are the same conscription seen from three sides.
The cell. She stores what he cannot carry. When his standing needs restoring, he draws the charge back down, through contempt, through violence, through sexual use, through mattering-more in any shared room. She is ground: where the charge flows to, and where it is drawn from.
The assault. The deposit and the withdrawal are both battery in the second sense: the body struck. She is made a battery by being battered, and battered in order to be made a battery. The electrical figure is not laid over the violence. The violence is how the charge is stored. The two words were never two.
The reserve. She is the stored energy his functioning runs on, kept in degraded-but-functional condition. Enough degradation to keep her conductive; not so much that the body fails. The user who goes too far has damaged his own infrastructure. Sustainable degradation is not a contradiction in the configuration but its operating parameter. And when a body is too depleted to conduct, it is discarded and replaced: the fresh battery, the new wife, the vocabulary of romance covering the operation.

THE LEDGER
Her holding keeps the charge off the books. The occupation's accounts balance because she absorbs the remainder that would otherwise show: the cost of running the trespass posted nowhere, because it is posted in her. The ledger cannot admit residency; the prior occupant appears on the books only as a balance on an account opened against her dwelling. The charge she holds is the cost the books do not carry, because she carries it instead. The accounts close because she holds what will not close. This is why the configuration's books always balance and the women in them do not.

🜃
WHY HER
She is the one conscripted because she was installed as the one who could be. The transforming capacity was externalized into her, and the theology that named the externalization globalized it. She is universally available (across class and race and culture) because the installation was universal, the floor beneath every other floor. She cannot be eliminated, because the configuration needs her, so she is kept: degraded and retained, the stable reserve. The conscription runs in private, distributed across every dwelling, requiring no public infrastructure. The poorest holder has access; the function is the floor he stands on regardless of where else he is held below. And it reproduces itself: a body made to hold raises children inside the holding. These are not the reasons she was chosen. They are the shape of the installation after the choosing. She holds because she was made to hold.

🜃
THE REFUSAL
The battery operates because she conducts. The function is refused when the conducting stops.
Not by setting a boundary: a boundary adjusts the interface and leaves the conscription. Not by a higher score on the measure: the measure is the occupation's installed operation, and the higher score feeds it. Not by a seat at the table: the seat is bought with what the conscription extracted to set the table. These move along the grid. The refusal is off it.
The refusal is non-conduction. She stops holding. The charge he could not host returns to the one who generated it, and he feels, for the first time, what he was depositing. The occupation shorts. This is the residency that does not vacate: the prior resident who will not hold the displacer's charge, the tone that will not be tuned to absorb his dissonance. It is not an act performed on the configuration. It is the cessation of the holding the configuration required.
[See CESSATION · CO-RESIDENCY]
🜃
HETEROPATHY
The refusal is dangerous, and the danger is exact. When she stops holding, two things happen in the same instant. The charge returns to source. And the occupation is exposed, because her holding had kept it off the books, and the books now show what they were balanced against. The response is heteropathic: not the ordinary force of extraction, but the specific hatred the holder turns on the one whose refusal reveals the occupation as occupation. The violence escalates because the configuration is trying to force conductivity back, and because the not-holding has shown what the holding concealed. The one who will not hold is struck for what her not-holding exposes. The escalation is the configuration's confession that the holding was a trespass all along.
[See HETEROPATHY]
🜃
The battery is not a metaphor, and it is not a malfunction. It is the metabolism. The configuration cannot run without a body made to hold what its holders cannot host: the one capacity that could turn fire to light, conscripted to grip fire as waste. She is made a battery by being battered, and battered in order to be made a battery. The two words were never two.

RegenerativeLaw is a religion in the direct-encounter Protestant tradition, carrying a documented four-century lineage through Böhme, the Behmenists, the Friends, and Penn, and it diagnoses trespass theology as an establishment of religion. Its exercise consists substantially in refusal: it shelters the conscientious refusal of performed subordination as religious exercise. This entry states sincere religious belief concerning matters of ultimate concern, protected under the First Amendment and, as to federal action, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, 42 U.S.C. § 2000bb.
