Land was shared. Water ran. Forest gave fuel and food. The material basis of existence was available — not earned, not purchased, not conditional. The creature that could feed itself from the commons did not have to accept any offer. The commons were the refusal capacity. You could say no because you would not starve without the yes.
Enclosure ended this.
Five thousand individual enclosure acts in England between 1604 and 1914. Common land that had sustained peasant communities for centuries declared private property. Those who had rights to graze, to gather, to glean — rights passed down through generations — became trespassers on what was theirs. The commons were not discovered to be someone's property. They were converted into property by the act of enclosure itself. The law did not find the owner. The law created the owner by erasing the prior claim.
What was stolen was not only land. What was stolen was the capacity to refuse.
The creature who cannot feed itself without selling labor must accept the terms the buyer sets. The desperation is not personal failure. The desperation is the enclosure's product — the coerced worker manufactured by the act of taking what the worker previously held in common. The labor market was not discovered. It was created by removing the alternative.

Enclosure is not historical. It is continuous.
Rivers dammed, aquifers privatized, water bottled and sold — what fell freely from sky now has a meter. Plants that reproduced freely for millennia patented — the farmer cannot save seed from her own harvest. Information paywalled, copyrighted, patented — learning itself gated. The creature's own behavioral patterns extracted, owned, sold back as product — the creature becomes the commons being enclosed.
Each enclosure follows the same sequence: what was freely available becomes conditionally accessible. Each enclosure deepens the dependency. Each enclosure makes the coerced worker more desperate and therefore more extractable.
Coverture is enclosure at the level of the body. The woman enclosed in domestic space, cut off from property rights, from wage access, from public commons, from the legal standing that would let her refuse — her labor extracted without payment, her reproduction controlled without consent, her person available as battery because departure was foreclosed. The traditional family as enclosure structure: walls that keep her in and keep her production available.

The debt spiral is not accident. It is enclosure's second movement.
No commons means no fallback. No fallback means crisis requires borrowing. Debt means survival requires paying the debt and earning ongoing sustenance simultaneously. The desperate accept terms the non-desperate would refuse. Worse terms mean more extraction. More extraction means less capacity for the next crisis. Less capacity means more borrowing. The cycle does not end because it was not designed to end. It was designed by the prior enclosure that removed the alternative.
This is the structural trap the trespass economy calls individual failure. The creature who could not manage the debt should have planned better. The creature who could not refuse the terms should have developed more marketable skills. The enclosure that produced the desperation goes unnamed. The desperation is called the creature's condition rather than the trespass economy's requirement.

The theological installation and the enclosure work as one mechanism.
Theological installation severs the creature from inherent worth — worth must now be earned through proper channels. Economic enclosure severs the creature from material sustenance — survival must now be earned through labor sale. Together they produce the creature who cannot stop: spiritually desperate for worth-validation, materially desperate for survival, doubly available for extraction, doubly unable to refuse.
Remove either and the mechanism weakens. If worth circulated freely, merit's manufactured product would find no buyers. If the commons were open, the coerced worker's desperation would dissolve. The trespass economy requires both enclosures operating simultaneously. It spends continuous energy maintaining both.
The cost of the spending is not borne by the spender.
