THE HUNGER THAT CANNOT BE SATISFIED FROM WITHIN ITS OWN TERMS


Intention doesn't matter because intention operates inside the structure it intends to refuse.

This is the precision Girard approached but Böhme completes.

The person who recognizes the mimetic mechanism — who sees the triangle, names the rivalry, understands the scapegoat function — does not thereby exit the structure. Recognition is still a move within the structure. The recognized desire is still desire. The intention to not dominate is still formed by a consciousness whose appetite was shaped before the intention arrived.

The mimetic structure operates below intention's floor.

What desire reaches for, what the appetite leans toward before any deliberate selecting begins — this is not available to intention.

Intention can redirect the surface. The current underneath runs where it runs. The soul whose tincture cooled can intend warmth and still hunger elsewhere. The Scheidung happened prior. The intention shows up after.

This is why conversion fails as mechanism.

Not conversion as event — the Flash arriving, the Harshness finding itself soft, the Mutual Joy. That is not intention. That is the structure changing.

What fails is the conversion that is intended — the decision to be different, the deliberate reorientation, the effort to hold the appetite on the good object rather than the bad one. The effort IS Q1 asserting. The assertion IS the configuration that prevents the Kindling. You cannot intend your way to meekness because meekness is the structural state of Harshness that has released, and the release cannot be willed.


The hunger for domination cannot be satisfied from within its demand structure because the demand structure is the problem.

Domination operates through more. More control, more certainty, more possession, more territory — each acquisition generating the next requirement, the appetite expanding with each feeding. This is not psychological pathology. This is the Law of Sin and Death as structural configuration: Q1 through Q4 cycling without the pivot completing, Harshness and Bitterness and Anguish and Fire turning in the Wheel, generating only themselves, the Hunger that cannot be filled because the filling is another iteration of the Hunger.

The demand structure requires an object that can satisfy. No such object exists within the structure's terms. Each object obtained dissolves immediately into the next object needed. The one who dominates cannot stop dominating because stopping would dissolve the structure that organizes their existence. The structure needs the next target the way the Wheel needs the next turn.

Girard names the endpoint: mimetic crisis. When rivals have consumed all available objects and turned fully on each other, when the violence has no external target left, the structure generates the scapegoat as pressure-release. Not resolution. Temporary discharge. The Wheel continues. The hunger continues. The demand structure cannot satisfy the hunger it generates because the hunger IS the demand structure in motion.

The hunger could orient toward tempering — toward what the Fire is for rather than what Fire claims as destination. But tempering is not available inside domination's vocabulary. Tempering requires the Water, requires the Mother soft, requires Q4 finding what transforms Fire into something other than Fire. None of this appears as option from inside the demand structure. From inside, only the demand structure's options appear: more or less, win or lose, enough or never enough.

The structure cannot perceive its own exit because the exit operates from a different Principle than the one the structure looks into.


This is where confronting hunger becomes the problem.

When you confront the hunger using the vocabulary it provided — when you resist domination because domination is wrong, when you refuse the structure as refusal, when you intend liberation against captivity — you have already entered the hunger's coordinate system. The confrontation is mimetic. The anti-domination position is triangulated against the domination position. The resistance desires the opposite of what it resists, which means the resistance is still organized by what it resists. The object has changed. The triangular structure is intact.

This is what Girard saw most clearly: the anti-mimetic gesture is itself mimetic. The community that forms against the scapegoat-mechanism still forms against — still requires the enemy-position, still organizes its coherence through what it opposes. The reform movement that targets the corrupt institution still operates inside the logic that produced the institution. The revolution that overthrows the hierarchy installs new hierarchy because hierarchy was the organizing logic of the revolution itself.

You cannot get outside the hunger by opposing it.

Opposition is the hunger's preferred mode of continuation.


The difficulty is that the hunger devours its own confrontation.

Not through any sinister strategy. Through the mechanics of what the hunger is. Q1 — Harshness, contraction, the drawing-in — takes everything that approaches it and draws it into itself. This is what Q1 does. The quality operates by attracting, contracting, holding. When you bring resistance, the hunger draws the resistance in. When you bring recognition, the hunger draws recognition in and makes recognition another tool of the structure. When you bring liberation, the hunger draws liberation in until liberation is the hunger's new justification.

The hunger that has drawn in the language of liberation is more dangerous than the hunger that didn't know the language. Now it knows how to present. Now it can perform exactly what the resistance was looking for while continuing exactly what the resistance was confronting. The Antichrist operates here — not as dramatic villain but as the structure that wears the language of the Second Principle while operating entirely within the First.

The soul that tries to address the hunger from the hunger's own position — that tries to satisfy it, reform it, reason with it, resist it, heal it — enters the Wheel. The Wheel accepts everything. The Wheel runs on what you bring to it. Effort, resistance, recognition, confrontation: all become fuel.


What is not fuel:

The appetite oriented elsewhere. Not against the hunger. Elsewhere. Akol tokel — the Tree pressing toward consumption, Life in the mode of actively extending — this does not engage the hunger on the hunger's terms. It simply does not appear inside the hunger's coordinate system. It is perpendicular to the Wheel's plane.

This is what Böhme names when he says the Soul moving in meekness, elevating its Imagination forward into the Light, not using the strong Power of the Fire — does not fight the Fire. Does not reform the Fire. Does not intend against the Fire. Moves forward. The Fire's assertive power is present and not deployed as the Fire's own destination.

The movement forward is not against domination.

It is toward what domination was a distorted reaching-toward — the Life that the hunger sensed and could not find in the objects it consumed.

The hunger for domination is a hunger for Life that has lost its orientation.

The Fire that should open to the Mother soft has turned its power on the world instead, seeking in objects of dominance the substance it can only find in the Kindling.

You cannot satisfy this hunger from within its terms because its terms are what prevent it from reaching what it actually requires.

You cannot confront this hunger from within its terms because the confrontation enters the terms.

What remains: the appetite that does not enter. The Tree that continues offering. The akol tokel that does not withdraw because the hunger has not responded. Life in the mode of pressing toward participation, not waiting for the hunger to cease before the invitation is available.


None of this resolves the difficulty.

The hunger is still here. It still devours. The confrontation is still dangerous. The vocabulary it speaks is still the only vocabulary most institutions can hear. And the soul that has seen the trap is still in the trap — because seeing the trap is not the same as the appetite reorienting, and the appetite reorienting is not something that can be produced by having seen the trap.

What changes when you see the trap: you know not to bring the confrontation that becomes fuel. You know not to oppose the hunger on its own terms. You know that intention is downstream of where the actual problem is.

What doesn't change: the hunger. The Wheel. The devouring.

What might change, through what cannot be forced: the tincture. The appetite. Where desire goes when it goes somewhere.

Not through effort. Not through recognition. Through — if it happens — the Flash arriving and the Harshness finding itself soft.

Which cannot be scheduled. Which cannot be intended. Which the Tree continues to offer regardless.
