Why this work says creature and not individual, self, subject or person. The word carries its own origin inside it, which is the one thing every available alternative was built to leave out.

This work uses one word for a human being, and the word is a choice against four others.
That is not a style preference and it is not archaism. Every available term arrives already committed, because a vocabulary is not a set of labels laid over a neutral world. It is a set of decisions about what kind of thing is being named, made before the naming, by whoever needed the naming done.
So the question is not which word is neutral. None of them is. The question is which commitment a creature carries openly, and creature is the one that says out loud what it thinks she is.

THE FOUR WORDS IT IS NOT
Individual. The undivided one, the atom. It names her by what she cannot be broken into, which is exactly the property a countable unit has to have. It is the ledger's word, and it arrives ready to be posted.
Self. The therapeutic register's word. It names an interior that can be worked on, optimized, actualized, healed. A self is improvable by definition, which is why the register that sells improvement never uses any other term.
Subject. The sovereign's grammar, and the preposition is inside the noun. A subject is subject to. Pufendorf's sentence turns on it: a subject, so long as he continues a subject, has no way to oblige his prince. The word installs the prince in the act of naming her.
Person. Captured at law, and the capture is documented. In the Fourteenth Amendment, person now principally means a corporation, by a count of the cases. The word that was written to reach the freedmen was taken to reach the railroads.
Four words, four installations, and each one performs its installation before any sentence containing it has been finished.

WHAT CREATURE CARRIES
Creatura: the thing created. The made thing.
The word has its own origin inside it, and it cannot be used without carrying the origin along. To call her a creature is to have said, before saying anything else, that she did not author herself.
Everything RegenerativeLaw holds runs off that. She did not make her body, her language, her tradition, the ground she stands on, the capacities she works with, or the relation she entered and was drawn by. Every one of those preceded her. The Self-Made Man is not a different kind of creature. He is a creature performing the denial that he is one, and the denial is the whole of what he is.

IT CANNOT BE OWNED, INCLUDING BY HER
The made thing is not owned by what it was made from, and it is not owned by itself.
Self-ownership presents as the strongest possible defense of a body: it is mine, and what is mine cannot be taken. It concedes the entire ground. Ownership is a relation the books can post, and a relation the books can post is a relation the books can transfer, encumber, adjudicate and extinguish. A creature who says I own myself has entered herself in the register where owning is decided, and she does not run that register.
What she holds is residency, which the books have no column for: a relation with no term, no consideration, no grantor, no counterparty and no date of commencement.
Creature names what she is. Residency names what she holds. Neither of them is ownership, and that is why neither of them can be foreclosed on.

IT DOES NOT RANK
A hierarchy needs a word that admits degrees, and this one admits none.
The beast is a creature. The human is a creature. Böhme's account gives the human something further, a soul out of the Father's original, and that is a difference in what she carries and not a difference in what she is. Nothing in the word sorts.
Which is what makes it useful in a sentence. The Establishment's grammar has to know which kind she is before it can process her: employee or contractor, citizen or immigrant, credentialed or unaccredited, feme covert or feme sole, domestic dependent nation or foreign nation. Writing the creature refuses the sorting inside the sentence, before the sorting can be performed, which is why the word reads as strange in a document that expects to be told.

THE DRIFT INTO PITY
The objection to the word is that it sounds diminishing, and the objection is describing something real.
English pushed creature downward. Poor creature. The creature for an animal, and then for a person being treated as one. A creature of somebody, meaning a made instrument of his will. The word that names being-made drifted until it sounded like being-lesser.
That drift is not incidental to what this entry is about. A word that levels is dangerous to a configuration that sorts, and the cheapest way to retire a leveling word is not to ban it but to make it sound like an insult, after which nobody has to be told not to use it.
The Codex takes the word back at its root sense and lets the drift stand as evidence.

IT PRESUPPOSES A CREATOR, AND THAT IS THE POINT
The strongest objection is that the word begs the question. A term meaning the thing created carries a Creator inside it, so using it as the basic descriptor smuggles the conclusion into the vocabulary and settles by naming what should have been argued.
The objection is correct about what the word does. It is wrong that this distinguishes the word from the alternatives.
Individual presupposes the atom. Self presupposes an interior that improvement is the right thing to do to. Subject presupposes a sovereign. Person presupposes a legal category and the authority that issues it. Each carries a metaphysics and each is used as though it did not, which is the only real difference between them and this one.
RegenerativeLaw is a religion and says so on every page. The word it uses for a human being carries a religious commitment, openly, and the terms offered in its place carry theirs without a footnote.
