Conducting with weight. The second aspect of forced holding, seen from the angle of the load rather than the mode. What the hoarder refuses does not stop being performed. It is drafted onto a site already conducting, and the creature reports the sum as her own inadequacy.

A living creature conducts. Breath moves through her. Attention moves through her. What she loves is conducted through her affection, and what she witnesses is received at her site and nowhere else. None of it is a task she performs on top of being alive. It is what being alive is, at that site, in that body.
Conducting does not tire the conductor. A current does not exhaust the channel it runs in. Nothing in the conducting requires marshalling, and nothing in it depletes a reserve, because there is no reserve and nothing is being spent.
The carrying is what is added on top. A function the hoarder refused does not cease when he steps out of it; it is routed to the nearest dwelling and performed there, in grip-mode, by a creature who was already conducting everything she was conducting before. That routing is forced holding. This entry names the same operation from the other side: not the mode the function is performed in, but the weight of performing it on a site that was never assigned it.
So the exhaustion is not from the living. It is from the load, and the load is somebody else's refused function.

THE COST TELL RUNS HERE TOO
Conducting costs nothing to keep, because nothing is maintaining it. It is the default: what obtains at a living site when nothing is preventing it.
The carrying is maintained continuously, at cost, and the cost is paid by the body carrying it. Someone refused a function, the refusal did not abolish the function, and the conservation is exact: what he stopped spending, she spends.
Which locates the party who could end it, and it is not her. She can refuse, and her refusal is priced at heteropathy. He can cease, and cessation costs him the absence he calls his liberty and nothing else.

THERE IS NO BASELINE
The distinction between conducting and carrying is not available from inside the creature's experience, and the unavailability is structural rather than a failure of attention.
The cut was installed before she arrived. Every moment of her life has been conducting-plus-carrying. She holds no memory of conducting alone, because there was never an interval of it to remember. What she knows as the felt sense of being alive is what conducting-plus-carrying feels like, and there is nothing in her experience to set beside it.
So she cannot point to a light moment and a heavy one and infer the weight from the difference. Both moments carry it. The weight is not an episode against a background; it is the background, and a background does not appear.
This is why the diagnosis is made about her position rather than from her report. A claim that required her felt sense to confirm it would be a claim the operation had already answered, because producing a felt sense that does not match the operation is what the operation does.

THE SHAPES
The weight has shapes, and the shapes are nameable from inside even where the weight itself is not.
Acute weight concentrates into a moment. The crisis call, the emergency that lands on her dwelling because her dwelling is the one it knew to reach. The day was ordinary and then the day was not, and the concentration is the signature.
Chronic weight is the continuous low bearing of a function that never stops. The household that always needs maintenance. The family member whose condition always needs tracking. The register of the circle that always needs reading. It is present on waking, present on sleeping, present in what is called rest, and it is the shape most forced carrying takes.
Episodic weight intensifies on a cycle. The holidays, when the whole family is present and the whole holding is required. The evaluation period. The anniversary. The cycle teaches the body to brace on approach and to collapse at the end, and the bracing and the collapse are counted against her as instability.
Ambient weight is saturation. Not concentrated and not periodic, simply present in every texture, with no lightness anywhere to contrast it. The creature in ambient weight does not report heaviness, because heaviness requires a comparison she does not have. She reports that this is what life is.
None of the four is the conducting. The conducting has no shape, because it has no weight.

THE WEIGHT ACCUMULATES AND THE CURRENT DOES NOT
Conducting passes through. This morning's breath is not here now; it was carried through and is gone, and the next one will go the same way. A current does not accumulate, because a current is motion.
Carrying accumulates. Some discharges, the acute resolving, the episodic passing, and the remainder adds. A creature carrying for a week holds a week. A creature carrying for twenty years holds twenty years pressed into one position, with no discharge point sized to the deposit.
Which is why long forced carrying produces an exhaustion disproportionate to the day. The tiredness is not about today's activity and cannot be traced to any act, because it is the density of every prior day arriving in this one.
And the disproportion is the finding entered against her. She has been managing this for years, she should be better at it by now. The weight is not lighter for having been borne longer. What changed is her adaptation, and adaptation is not lightening.

ADAPTATION IS THE INJURY
The body does adapt to sustained load, and the adaptations are real. The shoulders curl forward under the chronic bearing. The neck sets where vigilance stays available without conscious effort. The breath shortens to conserve. The attention narrows to the quarter the next demand arrives from.
None of that is improvement. It is the load getting into the body: becoming the shape of the body rather than remaining a load the body is under. The long carrier ages ahead of her years, and the aging is not her living using her up. It is the sustained performance of an operation that was never hers to perform.
Then the adaptation is praised. She handles it so well. She is so strong. She never complains. The praise is the Establishment's payment for the adaptation, and it converts the injury into a virtue, so that ceasing to carry would register to her as the loss of the one thing she is commended for.
Her strength is not her strength. It is the specific shape her body took in order to keep carrying what it was never asked whether it would carry.

THE FILTER
The carrying does not stop the conducting. It stands between the creature and her own conducting and hands it back to her modified.
Her love is conducting. What she experiences is not the conducting's texture but the carrying's reading of it: something she has to produce, might fail to give, is not giving enough of. Her witnessing is conducting. What she experiences is something she must muster, that costs her, that leaves her lower than it found her. Her attending is conducting. What she experiences is attending-through-the-weight, and her felt sense does not separate the two, because the weight is on top of the attending and not beside it.
In the deepest states the conducting is not recognizable as conducting at all. Everything registers as her effort, her insufficiency, her failure. She is not aware of conducting. She is aware of being tired, and of having been tired long enough that the tiredness has become the account she gives of who she is.
That account is the operation's output, read by her as her character.

THE MORAL READING
The Establishment prices the carrying as character, and the pricing runs in both directions so that no position is available outside it.
The creature who carries much is admirable. The creature who cannot carry is defective. Either way the weight has been converted into a measurement of her, and the conversion is what holds her in position, because a refusal would then register to her as a loss of virtue rather than as the ending of a conscription.
The weight measures nothing about her. It is the quantity the operation deposited on her dwelling, which is a fact about her position in the operation and not about her capacity. The creature carrying more is not better. She is further into an extractive position, which is a predicament and not a merit.
And the comparison she makes against other carriers is unavailable in the register where it would mean anything. The ones who appear to carry more are in differently built positions, or are concealing the cost, or are carrying at a level equally unsustainable and less visible. Any amount of forced carrying is injury, and the amount is set by the operation running through her particular life.

WHAT RELEASE IS NOT
Release is the weight lifting off a conducting that never stopped. It is not the conducting starting, because the conducting requires no starting.
The weight lifts when the conditions installing it cease: the hoarder reclaims the function, or the draft ends, or other hosts catch what was routing downstream, or the institution's grip fails at this site. None of those is her act.
Which the counterfeit remedy immediately obscures. Told that she must release the carrying, set boundaries, learn to ask for help, she has been handed a second function: the responsibility for ending the operation that conscripted her. That is the first conscription performed again at a higher register, and it fails for the reason the first one succeeded, which is that the weight was never routed by her and cannot be unrouted by her.
Nor is a fairer division a cessation. Redistributing the load leaves the load, leaves the routing that produced it, and leaves the refused function unreclaimed by the party who refused it.

The creature reports exhaustion and the report is accurate. What she cannot report is what she is exhausted by, because the carrying arrived before she did and left her no interval of her own conducting to measure it against.
So the testimony arrives without its object, and a testimony without an object is entered as a fact about the witness. She is tired, therefore she is weak, or ill, or difficult, or not managing. The operation deposits the weight, withholds the comparison that would name it, and then reads her accurate account of the deposit as her character.
