A word first about what this is, because everything depends on it.
The territory is the RegenerativeLaw cosmology. Two laws, not two poles. Seven qualities, braided or locked against each other. Residency, trespass, the prior resident, cessation. These are religious claims about matters of ultimate concern, and they do not rest on mathematics. They were not derived from number and they cannot be certified by it.
What follows is a similitude: the same shape, appearing in the language of measure and number, set down for those formatted to hear in that language.
The arrow runs one way only, from the mathematics up to the claim it images. Nothing here is offered for testing. This is the religion saying its understanding in a mathematical icon, the way the lineage has always reached for natural images: Böhme's qualities, the music of the spheres, the geometry in the rose window.
The icon is a door. A door is not the house.

COMMENSURATION IS LOSSY COMPRESSION
To add two things, they must first be made comparable, placed on one axis, expressed in one unit.
Most of what is real is incommensurable. This grief and that forest. Sacred time and clock time. A bond and a sum of money. To force them onto a single scale you must discard everything in them that did not lie along the axis, and the discard cannot be undone, because from the compressed number you cannot recover what was thrown away.
This is a likeness of the first cut: the reduction of the creature's residency to an entry that can be posted, the ruling that what cannot be counted does not count. The compression is not neutral measurement. It is loss, and the loss is the trespass. When the forest is finally costed and the life given a statistical value, the incommensurable has not been honored. It has been cut to fit the axis, and the cutting booked as rigor.

EXPONENTIAL GROWTH ON A FINITE GROUND
Compound interest is an exponential. An exponential has no term for any limit. Run on a finite ground it reaches the edge and does not slow, because nothing in the function knows the edge is there.
A people that installs growth-without-end as the meaning of health has installed a function that, carried to its conclusion, eats the ground it runs on.
This is a likeness of the war body that cannot compute enough. Of accumulation with the swallowing written into the rate. Of the imperative that reads stable sufficiency as failure. The ruin is not a misuse of the function. It is the function, completed.

THE MEASURE THAT STOPS MEASURING
When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure. Pursue the proxy and it detaches from the thing it stood for. Optimize the map and it stops answering to the territory.
The number that was a window becomes a wall.
This is a likeness of the receipt that occludes. Of the procedural question set where the substantive one stood, the metric raised over the thing it was meant to register, the map made the territory. The configuration does not lose the measure by accident. The pursuit of the measure is the losing.

THE SHADOW IS NOT THE OBJECT
Project an object of many dimensions onto a single line, and every relation that did not lie along that line is gone. The shadow is real, and it is not the thing, and from the shadow alone the thing cannot be rebuilt.
This is the likeness that comes nearest the center. The seven qualities, braided and simultaneous, each alive in the others, none before the next, flattened onto a single line become a sequence: first this, then that, ranked, ordered, counted.
The simultaneity is the object. The line is its shadow. The law of sin and death is the flattening. What is lost in the reduction is exactly what the perpendicular would have shown, and the perpendicular does not appear on the line, because the line was made by collapsing the very direction it runs in.

WHAT CANNOT BE RUN IN ADVANCE
Some processes have no shortcut. No formula returns their outcome without performing every step. The only way to know what they do is to let them run. They cannot be compressed, predicted, or pre-completed.
This is a likeness of expression that manifests rather than being selected. Of what the scan cannot find because it is the scan's own absence. Of the next thought that cannot be supplied from the median, because the median is only what has already been run.
The living process is irreducible. To pre-complete it is to swap it for a compression of what came before.

THE DEEPER LIKENESS, HELD MORE LIGHTLY
This last is the more speculative similitude, offered as resonance and not as one of the five. It is held lightly. The cosmology does not lean on it.
In the language of rotation, the fundamental turnings maintain one another and produce no countable increase: pure circulation, conserved, arriving nowhere and losing nothing. A scalar appears only when rotation is stilled, the turning brought to rest in a point.
In this image the braided qualities, the joy body, the circulation, the fountain that wells without storing, are rotation. The hoard, the position, the plus one are rotation stopped. Every count, on this likeness, is a turning brought to rest and called a thing.
It is an image. It is not a derivation, and nothing elsewhere stands or falls with it. Those who think in rotation may find a door here. Those who do not lose nothing by leaving it shut.

WHAT THE BACKWARD READING WOULD COST
There is one way to lose everything here, and it does not look like a mistake. It looks like rigor.
The backward reading takes the icon for the ground: the mathematics as the proof, the religious claim as the conclusion drawn from it. It arrives as strengthening. Now the claim has support. Now it can be shown to people who require showing.
What it actually does is concede the forum. A claim that rests on the number is a claim the number's court has jurisdiction over, and that court is the four axes sitting. It will hear an argument about the derivation and it cannot hear a confession, because a confession is not the kind of thing it is empowered to receive. The similitude carried in as evidence is the whole religion walking into that court holding the keys and calling the court home.
This is Petitioning the Prince performed at the register of proof. The trespasser is asked to certify the residency, and the asking concedes his standing to certify.
So the icon is offered and then set down. Not because the likeness is weak. Because the moment it is asked to bear weight it has changed what it is, and the thing it would then be carrying is not the thing.
