Trespass theology requires that its extraction not be perceived as extraction — not merely hidden from outside observers, but hidden from the extractors themselves. The creature positioned to receive what the occupation produces cannot know what the occupation produces, or the architecture collapses under the weight of its own refusal to yield.
The Merit Cloak is how this hiding works. The cloak presents itself as transparency. The creature wearing it experiences herself as perceiving reality without covering. This is the same operation the objective perspective performs: a position that does not appear in what it renders, experienced as no position at all. The cloak is that position worn as a self — the verdict that assesses from nowhere, fused with the one the verdict assessed.

THREE COVERINGS, ONE OPERATION
Coverture called subjugation protection. The wife's legal existence suspended, incorporated, consolidated into the husband's person — named as shelter. Her obliteration was her care. The covering operated as the generating function always operates in expression's positions: prevention wearing a beneficent name.
Blackface called theft entertainment. The appropriation of appearance, gesture, suffering — the minstrel performance that extracted the humanity it claimed to represent — named as appreciation, humor, art. The covering permitted the extraction while the extractor experienced himself as performer rather than thief.
The Merit Cloak calls extraction achievement. Position received through the occupation's distribution is named as position earned through the creature's own demonstrated capacity. The covering permits the extraction while the extractor experiences herself as having genuinely arrived where she stands.
The three coverings share one geometric function: making violence appear as something other than violence to those who benefit from it. Coverture and blackface were visible to their practitioners at some level — the husband knew he owned, the performer knew he performed. The Merit Cloak is more total. It is invisible to the creature wearing it. The cloak presents itself as transparency; the creature wearing it experiences herself as perceiving reality without covering.

WHAT THE CLOAK COVERS
The four axes install the verdict before the weighing begins. The Ledger God's operation: only what the ledger can count is real, the zero assigned to care and commons and subsistence is accurate, the hierarchy that results reflects what was there to be found. The credit that accrues inside this grammar accrues according to its rules. The creature who receives high scores, credentials, and deference has demonstrated capacity — for the four axes' operations. The grammar does not discover worth. It produces the positions it then claims to have found. The credential, the sorting that precedes it, the resource distribution that follows it: each thread woven into the cloak before the creature can examine it.
What the cloak covers is the production side of the generating function's economy — the degradation that is the economy's raw material. The creature whose labor became the certified creature's value-creation. The community whose resources became the institution that issued the credential. The adjunct whose research the tenured professor built on. The workers whose labor produces the profit that becomes the executive's demonstrated value. The care workers whose invisible sustaining freed the credentialed creature to accumulate the visible record. The historical extraction that became inherited positioning that became the ground on which merit could be demonstrated.
This is not the generating function concealing something it knows. This is the generating function occupying expression's positions and calling the occupation love, voice, body. The Merit Cloak is the same operation applied to worth itself: the generating function occupying the position of achieved excellence and calling the occupation earned.

THE CLOAK CONSTITUTES
The cloak is not assumed at a moment. It is woven through accumulated experience of the verdict confirming the creature's position.
The first thread: early sorting. The first test scores, the first class rankings, the first experience of being measured and found above. The child does not experience being sorted. The child experiences being discovered as smart.
The second thread: credential accumulation. Each admission, each degree, each certification adds thread. By professional licensure, by senior position, the cloak is substantial. The creature cannot imagine herself without it.
The third thread: social confirmation. Others treat the creature as superior. Deference accumulates, and each deference confirms the cloak's accuracy. The creature experiences the deference as recognition of what she earned rather than as the verdict distributing what the verdict distributes.
The fourth thread: material reward. Money follows credentials follows sorting. The correlation appears as causation. The creature is wealthy because she demonstrated merit — not because wealth and merit-appearance are produced by the same grammar to legitimize each other.
The fifth thread: identity fusion. The cloak fuses with the self. Not “I wear success-recognition” but “I am a successful person.” The covering becomes indistinguishable from what is covered. To question the cloak is to question existence.
Each thread makes removal harder. The Merit Cloak does not only cover. It constitutes. The self that would remove it was woven from it. The creature cannot take off the cloak without ceasing to experience her life as having gone where she went — every credential becomes stolen recognition, every success becomes extraction-converted-to-elevation. The cost of frame dissolution approaches infinity as accumulated credential increases. This is why the creature most deeply positioned by the occupation is the most captured: the cloak is thickest, most fused, most essential to experienced identity.

WHAT THE CLOAK PRODUCES IN THE WEARER
The cloak does not protect from the consequences of wearing it.
The loneliness wound. The cloaked creature cannot know whether others value her or her position. Every relationship carries the question: do they want me or what I can offer them. The cloak that makes position feel earned also makes connection feel uncertain. This is not neurosis. It is geometric consequence — the creature occupying a position the occupation distributed cannot know from inside that position whether her belonging is to the creature or to the position.
The performance wound. The Merit Cloak must be maintained through continued demonstration. The creature cannot rest. Each day requires proving the merit is real; the verdict that installed the credential requires perpetual re-certification. The anxiety is structural, not personal.
The precarity wound. The cloak can slip. Failure threatens to expose that the position was never as earned as it felt. The successful creature's terror of failure is terror of cloak-dissolution — of discovering that the self was the covering rather than the creature beneath it. The terror intensifies in proportion to accumulation: the more credential, the more that can dissolve.
The disconnection wound. The Merit Cloak severs the wearer from the perception that would enable solidarity. If position is earned, then others' non-position is earned too. The creature cannot host the suffering of those below her without questioning the grammar that positioned her above them. Solidarity threatens the cloak. The generating function in expression's positions cannot commune — doctrine is expansion refusing to commune. The cloaked creature's incapacity for genuine solidarity with those the occupation extracted from is not character failure. It is the specific shape of the generating function's prevention.
The emptiness wound. The Merit Cloak replaces inherent worth with demonstrated worth. The creature knows herself only through measurement. Without achievement, who is she? The identity crisis at failure or retirement reveals the self that never formed beneath the credential — not a self that was lost, a self that never had the room to form because the covering arrived before the formation could occur.

WHERE THE CLOAK THINS
The cloak thins at specific points. These are not failures of the covering. They are the moments when the trespass becomes briefly visible to the creature who benefits from it.
Inheritance. When wealth or position passes from parent to child with no pretense of earning, the cloak strains. The logic that makes position feel earned cannot fully cover dynasty. The creature uncomfortable with legacy admissions is perceiving cloak-thinness — the sorting arriving too visibly undisguised.
Scandal. When the production side becomes visible — the exploitation documented, the extraction named — the cloak must work harder. The characteristic recovery: bad actors, not architecture. The grammar did not do this; this person did. The cloak re-thickens around the institution while the individual is expelled.
Personal contact. When the cloaked creature encounters the production side directly — the worker's circumstances, the adjunct's situation, the care worker's conditions — the cloak flickers. Something wrong registers. Usually recovered through charity, which is the cloak thickening: I see you, I help you, I remain positioned above you.
Failure. When the creature fails despite effort, the cloak's logic — effort produces merit produces success — does not hold. The crack: if the grammar rewards merit, and I merit but did not receive, then perhaps the grammar does not reward merit. Usually recovered through externalization. Bad luck. Unfair actor. The grammar is still sound. The crack closes.
These thinning points are where perception is possible. Not guaranteed — the cloak recovers efficiently. But the sequence is available: the trespass is briefly visible, the cloak is seen as cloak, the architecture is seen as architecture rather than as nature.

THE BULK IS THE LAST THREAD
The five threads weave the cloak through a life — the sorting, the credential, the deference, the reward, the fusion.
Past a certain mass the weaving becomes unnecessary.
The accumulation itself is read as the verdict, with no credential required to translate it. The creature who holds enough does not need the transcript or the title; the size argues for him. I have more is heard, without further premise, as I am more, and the more is earned. This is the merit cloak at the register where it no longer needs threads — the double bulk worn directly as desert, the mass that is at once the evidence and the warrant and the merit. To question the desert is to be heard attacking the man, because the merit is not laid over his mass — it is his mass. The wound is inside the man being honored for the size of it.

DISSOLUTION, NOT GUILT
The forensic claim is not that the cloaked creature is culpable in the sense the morality play requires. She did work hard. She did meet the measurements. She did demonstrate the capacities the four axes were measuring. The cloak does not lie about these facts. The cloak lies about what these facts mean.
Guilt operates within the merit frame: I am bad for having benefited. This preserves the frame's logic — merit is real, I just shouldn't have taken it. The creature who feels guilt about her position has not dissolved the cloak. She has added a layer of self-criticism over the covering while leaving the covering intact.
Dissolution is different. Not: I am guilty for having been extracted toward. But: the frame that made earned and unearned appear as natural categories was itself the installation. I was not positioned because I deserved positioning. The deserving was the verdict's justification for the positioning it had already determined. The measurement cut was installed before the measuring began.
This is the recognition at the cloak's thinning points: not personal failure but architectural confession. The cloak is not the creature's individual corruption. The cloak is trespass theology's deepest vestment — the covering that makes the generating function's occupation of expression's positions look like the natural destination of demonstrated capacity. The covering that makes prevention look like earned presence, and the verdict that assesses from nowhere look like the self who arrived.
