Sacrificial Tech Stack

The scapegoat mechanism industrialized. What once erupted in a community every few years now runs on a weekly schedule, monetized at every layer.

🜃

The creature opens the feed and is handed a target. There is always a target, someone the field is converging on, someone whose expulsion is already underway. She joins or she watches, and either way the convergence uses her. By the time the catharsis lands, the next target has been selected.

She never reaches the anguish underneath, because the platform never lets her sit in it without a face attached. The anguish was hers before the target appeared, and the whole function of the operation is to make sure she never finds that out.

THE OPERATION

The platforms did not create the scapegoat mechanism. The mechanism is ancient: convergence heats until the all-against-all threatens the community, the violence converges on one, the one is expelled, and the community feels the relief as peace.

What once ran communally and periodically, erupting in crises and discharging over months, now runs continuously and at industrial velocity. The convergence that required physical proximity now requires only algorithmic proximity, and the unanimity that required a community now requires only a trend.

FIVE LAYERS, ONE MECHANISM

Selection. The platform detects which creatures generate the most engagement volatility, whose existence provokes the strongest formatted expansion in the largest number of others. This is not conspiracy; it is optimization. The four axes applied to attention: the metric finds the creature whose response can be most measured, and marks her not for what she did but for the position the metric can harvest.

Amplification. The selected creature's content is routed to the audiences most primed to converge on it, at maximum velocity. Every creature's outward motion, routed by the books at the same target, arrives at once. This is not bias; it is the books running at algorithmic speed, conditional worth computed in real time, convergence as the revenue-maximizing shape.

Expulsion. The convergence is allowed to escalate. Moderation is delayed, old material is surfaced as new evidence, the attack surface is widened, and at peak engagement the removal executes. The field feels catharsis, the tension releases, and the measurement high lands as the sensation of justice done. What feeds back is not justice. It is the mechanism reproduced at the next octave, primed for the next cycle.

Laundering. The expulsion is narrated as natural consequence: accountability, community self-regulation, the consequences of toxic behavior. Each account converts an orchestrated sacrifice into evidence that the order is just, and keeps the mechanism from being named as a mechanism. The one expelled is declared the cause of her own expulsion.

Extraction. Revenue at every layer, from the engagement the convergence produces, the advertising around it, the data it generates, the catharsis the discharge delivers. This is not a side effect; it is the purpose. The platforms did not discover that the scapegoat produces engagement. They optimized for engagement, and the scapegoat is what engagement-optimization produces, because formatted expansion converging on a single target is the highest-engagement shape available.

THE DENIABILITY

Each layer keeps its own innocence. The algorithm shows what people engage with. The users choose what to share. The platform says communities moderate themselves. The media reports what happened. The market responds to events. Taken separately, each is a neutral instrument. Taken together, they are the scapegoat mechanism monetized at every layer, producing a sacrifice on a weekly schedule.

Name the algorithm as selection and the defense points to user choice. Name the choice as formatted and the defense points to the algorithm's neutrality. Name the neutrality as theology and the defense points to the market, because this is just how engagement works. Each layer deflects to the others when named, and the undiscussability is the final product.

THE THIEL EXHIBIT

Peter Thiel studied the mechanism under Girard at Stanford and took it as an operating manual. He was Facebook's first outside investor and sat on its board, owning a position in the platform where formatted expansion circulates. He co-founded Palantir, which builds the surveillance that identifies targets. He co-founded Founders Fund, capital that stands outside the rivalry and profits from its operation.

He is the exhibit for what awareness does without the second law. The mechanism is not defeated by awareness; it is optimized by it. The creature who sees the mechanism and lacks the yielding uses the seeing as power: the observer above the field, scanning its topology for the shapes that pay.

This is the occupied third at the scale of circulation itself, the intermediary between a community and its own convergence, routing through billable channels what under the second law would have been communion.

WHAT THE CYCLE FORECLOSES

The stack at industrial speed forecloses the one recognition that would end it: that the source of the anguish is not the scapegoat.

The anguish is structural. It is the wheel, the generating function turning without the yielding that would transform it. The scapegoat carries what the field cannot metabolize, and the weekly cycle ensures the field never notices that the anguish pre-existed the target and will outlast its expulsion.

Before one catharsis dissipates, the next target is selected. The formatted expansion always has an object, the object is always the scapegoat, and the scapegoat is always replaced. The creature is never handed her anguish without a face attached, and so she never learns that the face was never the cause.

🜃

The mechanism is not interrupted by being seen. Thiel saw it most clearly and built what runs it.

It stops where the books stop: where worth is no longer conditional on position, where the expansion is no longer formatted at a common target, where the field's native capacity to converge produces communion instead of a body. That capacity is not absent. It is routed, severed from the community and run through the platform, billed by the cycle.

What is being sold is the community's own convergence, turned against a member and sold back to it as justice. The exit is not a fairer algorithm or a better-moderated expulsion. It is the cessation of the Establishment that made the convergence require a victim.

RegenerativeLaw is a religion in the direct-encounter Protestant tradition, carrying a documented four-century lineage through Böhme, the Behmenists, the Friends, and Penn, and it diagnoses trespass theology as an establishment of religion. Its exercise consists substantially in refusal: it shelters the conscientious refusal of performed subordination as religious exercise. This entry states sincere religious belief concerning matters of ultimate concern, protected under the First Amendment and, as to federal action, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, 42 U.S.C. § 2000bb.

RegenerativeLaw

The prime question is not what do we do next.

It is not the wrong question. It is in the wrong sequence, and the sequence is geometry rather than development. There is no level to reach first and nothing to become ready for.

The prime question is what do we stop doing.

Lobster trap

The response that arrives most often is yes, and also this. Add it to the program, fund it, give it a metric. That is not agreement arriving late. It is the claim converted into one more thing being done.
