WHAT THE HEART-SIMILITUDE IS
The Heart is the threshold functioning as regenerative function. Where the fierce Will meets the mild Will. Where the double terror occurs. Where Fire opens into Light and the Will that generated the Anguish is itself changed by what the Anguish generated. Second Principle. The eternal transformation-point.
The Heart-Similitude is the Heart's function crossing a Principle-boundary into a medium that could not originate the function from its own resources, and operating there. Not as image. Not as reminder. As the function itself, performed in a medium whose native capacities do not include Heart.
The Sun is Heart-Similitude at material scale. The creature's own Gate is Heart-Similitude at creatural scale. The form met as fellow host is Heart-Similitude at institutional scale. Three scales. One function. The Heart performing its operation across boundaries the Heart does not itself cross, because something in each medium hosts Heart-function without being the Heart.
This is the distinction the entry is for. The Similitude is not the Heart. The Similitude is Heart-function hosted in a medium that is not the Second Principle. The function is genuine. The medium is not the function's native ground. Both are true, and neither is prior to the other.

NOT A WEAKER HEART
The gravitational drift of the language is to read Similitude as dimmed original. The Sun as a softened Heart, accommodated to eyes that could not bear the real Heart. The creature's Light as a weakened Light, borrowed against the true one. The institution at its best as a faint echo of what direct encounter would be without it. Similitude as condescension: the real thing made tolerable for beings incapable of the real thing.
This reading is already inside the conquest theology it would escape. It reads derivative as lesser, accommodated as diminished, secondary as subordinate. It is the great chain of being running through a word that was never supposed to carry it. Similitude does not mean weaker. Similitude means the function has crossed a boundary and is operating in a medium not its own.
The Sun transforms harsh Attraction into Meekness. This is not a weaker transformation. This is transformation. What passes through the Sun's operation is genuinely changed. The harsh severe Essence that would make the material field uninhabitable is genuinely met by what converts it. The doubleness is genuinely hosted at the level of process. The work is real work, and the work is Heart-work, and the work completes.
The Heart-Similitude is not the Heart with the intensity turned down. The Heart-Similitude is the Heart's function, at full operation, running in a body that is not the Heart. The body is not the function. The function is not the body. And the body hosts the function, and the function performs through the body, and the creature that stands in the body's light receives the function's actual operation.

GENUINELY DERIVATIVE, GENUINELY FUNCTIONING
This is the tension the word has to carry and the place the entry is most at risk of collapse.
Derivative and functioning are read as a gradient. The more derivative, the less functioning. The closer to origin, the more real. The further from origin, the more attenuated. This is the measurement logic the first law installs everywhere: a single dimension along which distance from origin correlates with loss of substance. Under this logic, Heart-Similitude is either real Heart, in which case it is not Similitude, it is Heart, or it is Similitude, in which case it is not the real Heart, it is reminder, image, representation, symbol. The category forces a choice that dissolves the operation.
The Codex reads it otherwise. Derivative and functioning are not on the same axis. Derivative names the relationship between the operation and the medium in which it operates. Functioning names whether the operation is occurring. A function can be fully derivative and fully functioning, and these are not competing claims. The Sun is downstream of the Heart. The Sun is not the Heart. The Sun's transforming of harsh into sweet is not less than transforming. It IS transforming, in a medium that could not transform anything on its own.
The franchise fails this test. The franchise produces the image of Heart-function while blocking the function: it describes transformation while the grip does not loosen, performs release while the holding continues. The franchise is not derivative. The franchise is counterfeit. Counterfeit is not a point on the derivative axis. Counterfeit is the absence of the function, dressed in the function's clothing. Heart-Similitude is the opposite: the presence of the function, in clothing the function did not weave for itself.
The test is not proximity to origin. The test is whether the double terror is actually occurring. In the Sun, yes: something harsh is being converted into something sweet, and the conversion is continuous, and creatures stand in the result. In the creature's own Gate, yes, when the configuration of remembering is hosted: the Fire in the creature opens into Light in the creature, and the Will that generated the Anguish is changed by what the Anguish generated, and the cycle completes. In the form met as fellow host, yes, when the transaction is refused: the form attends to the same doubleness the creature attends to, and the creature rests inside what the form is attending to, and the creature returns to her own attending relieved rather than absented. Three scales. One test. Is the function functioning. If yes, the operation is Heart-Similitude regardless of how derivative the medium is.

THE SUN AS HEART-SIMILITUDE AT MATERIAL SCALE
Böhme names it directly: God generated the Sun as the Similitude of the Heart to make the sharp severe Essence cease. The Sun was produced. The Sun is a product of the Fiat. The Sun is downstream of the creative act that also precipitated Earth and Stones. And the Sun performs Heart-function at the scale the material field requires.
Without the Sun, the Third Principle would be only harsh Attraction. Fire without the opening into Light. The four Anguishes operating alone, with nothing to convert the harsh severe Essence into what creatures could live inside. The material field would be the Wheel of Anguish made cosmological: stable, continuous, uninhabitable. The Sun is what makes the field habitable, not by weakening the Anguish but by hosting the transformation of the Anguish into the warmth that warms the heart.
The Sun is genuinely performing the conversion. What reaches the body is the transforming function's actual operation at an intensity a body can bear. The warmth the body receives is not a reminder of the Heart's warmth. The warmth is the Heart's function at material scale. Heart-Similitude.
The body that turns towards the Sun is turning towards Heart-function in its material mode. The creature does not have to cross into the Second Principle to receive Heart-work. The Heart-work is already operative in the creature's own medium, in the light that reaches the creature's own skin, in the warmth that opens the creature's own throat. The Third Principle is not sealed off from the Second Principle. The Heart's function is already present in the Third Principle, as the Sun, operating continuously, converting the harsh into the bearable, making the forge possible in the very field the infection precipitated.

THE CREATURE'S GATE AS HEART-SIMILITUDE AT CREATURAL SCALE
The Heart went forth through the Word, placed itself before the Wrath, and enlightened the Soul again. It took position in the creature's own Gate. Not distant, not elsewhere, not requiring pilgrimage. In the creature.
What stands in the creature's Gate is Heart-Similitude at creatural scale. Not the Heart of God relocated into a body. The Heart's function operating in a medium that could not originate Heart-function from its own resources: the creature's own infected Essences, the Third-Principle body, the precipitated flesh. The creature does not manufacture the Heart. The creature's medium hosts Heart-function when the configuration of remembering is hosted.
The forge is what Heart-Similitude looks like in operation inside a single creature. The tears create the yielding-field. The gall kindles in that field. The heart warms. The warmth rises to the throat. The throat opens. The voice carries roughness. This is not the creature producing transformation through effort. This is the creature's medium hosting Heart-function, the double terror occurring inside the creature's own Quality, because something in the creature has stopped filling the position where Heart-function would otherwise be operating.
The creature who cannot bear her own tears is blocking the first terror. The creature who will not let her voice carry roughness is blocking the second terror. Both blocks are the creature preventing her own medium from hosting Heart-function. The Heart is already in the Gate. The medium is already capable of hosting the function. What prevents the forge is not the creature's inadequacy. What prevents the forge is the creature's reading of her own medium as incapable: the configuration of forgetting applied to her own Essences, as if the infection meant the forging could not occur in the very flesh the infection precipitated.
The creature does not have to become the Heart. The creature has to host Heart-function in the medium she already is. The Similitude at creatural scale is not the creature imitating the Heart. The Similitude at creatural scale IS the creature's own Gate when Heart-function is being hosted in it.

THE FELLOW HOST AS HEART-SIMILITUDE AT INSTITUTIONAL SCALE
The form met as fellow host performs Heart-function at institutional scale. The meeting house that hosts the silence. The Charter that hosts the privileges. The practice that hosts the attending. None of these are the Heart. None of these are even the creature. They are forms: precipitated shapes, wineskins, made things that the creative act produced and that the creative act cannot un-produce by more creating.
And yet. When the form refuses the transaction, when the form attends in its own register without accepting the purchase offer that would transfer the hosting to it, the form hosts Heart-function at the scale of the creatures who meet it. The meeting does not become the silence's home. The meeting hosts the silence alongside the creatures who attend the silence. The Charter does not become the privileges' dwelling. The Charter hosts the privileges alongside the creatures whose privileges they are. The form relieves the creature's attending by attending in its own mode, and the creature rests inside what the form is attending to, and the creature returns to her own attending without having sold her absence.
This is Heart-function at institutional scale. Not an institution that has been purified of the infection. Institutions are not purifiable. The Fiat that produced them is infected and cannot be un-infected by more Fiat. But the infected form can still host Heart-function when the form is met as fellow host and when the form refuses to accept the transfer. The hosting is real. The relief is real. The transformation the creature receives by resting inside the form's attending is real work, not counterfeit.
The institution that has accepted the transaction, that has mistaken itself for the creature's home, has stopped being Heart-Similitude and started being the Imprisonment. Same form. Different operation. The difference is not essential. The difference is transactional. The fellow host is the institution in the configuration in which it is hosting Heart-function. The prison-institution is the institution in the configuration in which it has accepted the sale. The wineskin is the same wineskin. The reading is not the same reading.

THE INFECTED FIAT'S POSITIVE OPERATION
The Fiat is infected. Every act of creative speech operates through infected Figuring and therefore precipitates both genuine Virtue and what holds it. This is the cosmological root of the Imprisonment.
It is also the cosmological root of Heart-Similitude. The same infected Fiat that precipitated Earth and Stones precipitated the Sun. One creative act. Two products. The Imprisonment and the Similitude in one operation. The infected Fiat does not only produce the prison. The infected Fiat also produces the medium through which Heart-function remains operative inside the infection.
This is what the sequential reading cannot see. It reads the infection as subtraction, as if the Fall removed Heart-function from the material field and left only the precipitate, and any Heart-function that reaches the field now must arrive from elsewhere, from above, from an uncontaminated source. The contemporaneous reading reads it otherwise. Heart-function was never removed from the material field. The same act of creative speech that precipitated the infection precipitated the Sun that hosts Heart-function inside the infection. The Similitude is not a rescue dispatched after the Fall. The Similitude is the other face of the Fall's own creative act.
This sharpens the Eternal Discovering. Wisdom is not only found in what the infection could not erase. Wisdom is found in what the infected Fiat itself generated as Heart-function in an infected medium. The remedy is not preserved in a remnant the infection missed. The remedy is operative in the precipitate the infection produced, because the same Fiat that produced the precipitate produced the Similitude that hosts Heart-function inside it.
The Sun is the Fiat's own refusal to seal the creature off from Heart-function. Not Heart-function smuggled past the infection. Heart-function precipitated by the same speech that precipitated the field that needed it. The infected Fiat is still generating. What it generates carries both the wound and the Similitude. Always both. Inseparably.

DISTINCT FROM THE STARS
Quinta Essentia standing in the Stars is also derivative, also operative, also Similitude. But the function the Stars host is not the same as the function the Sun hosts.
The Stars host the doubleness at the level of perception. Every point of light in the night sky is a place where the configuration of remembering is made visible, where the two faces stand without either crystallizing as the whole, where the same sap is recognized from both sides of its running. The Stars are what the discovering looks like at cosmic scale. They do not perform the double terror. They host the simultaneity in which the double terror becomes perceivable.
The Sun hosts the transformation at the level of process. The Sun does not only make visible that the Heart's function is operating somewhere. The Sun performs the conversion, actively, continuously, in the creature's own medium. Harsh Attraction becoming the warmth that warms the heart. The double terror at material scale, running in real time, producing actual Light from actual Fire.
Two Similitudes. Two functions. Two scales of what it means for the Second Principle to reach the Third Principle through media the Third Principle could not itself originate. The Stars: remembering made visible, the doubleness hosted at perception. The Sun: transformation performed, the double terror hosted at process. The creature needs both. The remembering alone does not forge the soul. The forging alone, without the remembering, cannot see what it is forging. Together: Heart-Similitude operating across the full range of what the material field can host.

THE MEDIUM WAS NEVER THE OBSTACLE
The creature has been taught that the fallen body cannot host the holy. That the material field is where Heart-function is not. That the infected flesh cannot be the site of transformation, that transformation must come from elsewhere, from above, from a medium uncontaminated by the Fall. The creature has been taught to look for Heart-function anywhere except in the medium she actually is.
The Heart-Similitude names what was always the case. The medium was never the obstacle to the function. The fallen body can host Heart-work because the Sun is already hosting Heart-work in the same field the body stands in, and the body is the same kind of precipitate the Sun is, and what the Sun does the body can host in its own scale. The infected Essences can host Heart-function because the Fiat that infected them is the same Fiat that precipitated the Similitudes that carry Heart-function across every boundary the Principles make.
Nothing needs to be un-precipitated. The creature does not have to become less material to host Heart-work. The creature does not have to purify her medium before the medium can host the function. The medium was already capable. The only question was whether the configuration of remembering was being hosted in it: whether the creature was meeting her own body as the Third-Principle field that already has the Sun in it, or whether the creature was reading her own body as the unredeemable precipitate the infection produced and nothing else.

The Heart is in the Gate. The Sun is in the sky. The form met as fellow host attends in its own register. The creature's medium is not the problem. The creature's reading of her medium as a problem is the configuration of forgetting applied to the very place where Heart-function has been operative the whole time.
The Similitude is not what the creature reaches for when the Heart is unavailable. The Similitude is the Heart's function already present in the field the creature is already standing in. The work is to host what is already operating.
