It is there. It is reliable. It kills. And the second handle is not the answer, because a handle is what does the killing.

Epictetus set it down at Encheiridion 43. Every matter has two handles, one by which it can be carried and one by which it cannot. Where a brother has wronged you, the wrong is the handle by which the matter is not to be taken up. Take it up by the brotherhood instead.
The counsel is exact and it is incomplete, and the incompleteness is where this entry begins. Both are handles. The handle of the brotherhood does less violence and it still closes the hand. The brother taken by it is still taken, held now with affection instead of grievance, but held, and a living thing held is a living thing stopped.
Epictetus refines which handle the hand should close on. He does not open the hand.

WHY THE SECOND HANDLE IS A FORGERY
The two handles present as a choice between killing and carrying. They are a choice between a crude grip and a wise one.
This matters because the wise grip is the harder counterfeit. The crude handle announces itself: a grievance rehearsed is obviously a grievance, and the creature who takes her brother by the wrong knows the weight of what she is carrying. The wise handle announces nothing. It feels like the relation. It is warm, it is generous, it is what a good creature would reach for, and it converts the brother into a thing-taken exactly as completely as the other one, only kindly.
A handle is what a thing has when it has already been made into an object with a place to grip. The living passage does not have one. To find a handle on a creature is to have already performed the operation the handle is for.
The wise handle makes a finite center as surely as the crude one, and a kinder corpse is a corpse.

THE MANUFACTURE
What the procedure adds to the ancient problem is industry.
The methodology's terms arrive crisper, more legible and more administrable than the question the creature came with, and that is the handle, machined. The conversion is not offered as a choice between handles. It is offered as service, as translation, as the way the substantive question is addressed here.
And the second handle is not refused. It is inadmissible. Taking-the-question-by-the-relation cannot be filed, has no field on the form, does not survive intake. So the display holds one handle, fitted to the hand, with the choosing already done before the creature reaches.
The procedure did not choose the worse of the two handles. It manufactured one, and the manufacture is why nothing on the thing looks like an alternative.

THE THREE PROPERTIES
It is there. The intake never closes. The portal is open around the clock, the form is always available, and availability requires nothing living to show up. A relation requires the other creature, who might be asleep, might be grieving, might say no. The dead handle requires no one, and this is sold as accessibility. What makes it always there is exactly what will kill.
It is reliable. The same grip, every time, for every hand, auditable. Reliability is reproducibility arriving at the register of the grip, the ledger's second column surfacing as a hand-tool. What is alive cannot be gripped twice identically, because it has moved. Only the dead grips the same way twice. The reliability is not despite the deadness. The reliability is the deadness, certified.
It kills. A grip that reliable is possible only on a corpse, so the handle delivers its promise by converting what it carries. The creature's question, taken by the administrable handle, arrives at the form dead. The substantive claim does not survive being carried that way, which is why the form's answer never touches what she came with. The form never handled her question. It handled the corpse the handle made of it, and the response answers the corpse.
The translation was an autopsy performed in advance, and the receipt is the death certificate, formatted as an answer.

FRIEND TO NO ONE
The law of sin and death is friend to no one, and not as disposition. As definition.
Friendship is a relation of parties, and the first law is constituted by the refusal of parties. It operates on, never with. It cannot befriend its own occupants: the owner is owned, the clerk is formatted, the governor meets the case and never the creature. And the finite center cannot befriend, because friendship requires givingness and the finite center has none. Everything it appears to have is borrowed, and it draws without returning.
From this the killing follows as geometry. Life is the returning circuit. To be friend to no one is to return nothing to anyone, and what arrives at the end of a friendless carriage is dead on arrival.
The friendlessness is not a cost of the legibility. It is the manufacturing process, because to read the same to every hand is to be in relation with none of them.

THE FORGERY AT THE REGISTER OF FAIRNESS
One counterfeit carries the dead handle into the sanctuary, and it has to be named.
Scripture praises impartiality, no respecter of persons, and the procedure claims the mantle. But same-to-all has two forms, identical from the audit position and opposite in substance. Friend to each is the second law's impartiality: the love that meets every creature as party, unbribable because already fully given to each. Friend to none is the first law's: the grip that meets no one.
The second law's own word for the standing it confers is the one the first law can never pronounce. I no longer call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends. The servant who does not know is the corpse-obedience register, carried anywhere and informed of nothing.
The first law at its most benevolent can only say: you have been processed.

THE CORPSE'S HANDLE
The file closes a circuit four centuries wide, because Loyola's corpse is defined by its handle.
Perinde ac si cadaver: as a dead body, which can be carried anywhere and treated in any manner whatever. Carriable-in-any-direction is the corpse's defining property, which means the corpse test and the handle test are one test. What the form can act on is what can be carried in any manner whatever, and what can be carried in any manner whatever is dead.
The uncarriable handle, the carriable corpse and the administrable question are one definition at three dates. The procedure demands the clerk as corpse, four centuries drilled and failed and finally achieved by substitution. It demands the question as corpse, at every intake. And it hands the creature a handle for her own claim, so that she performs the killing herself, in the act of filing, and thanks the form for the grip.

WHAT IS NOT A BETTER HANDLE
The exit is not the second handle, and the whole force of the entry is in refusing it.
Some things are single-handled and rightly gripped. The tool, the coin, the hammer, the rail on the stair: nothing living closes when the hand shuts. Towards these, grip is correct, and no account that pretends otherwise is worth holding.
Most of what a creature meets is not that. It is a passage with a handle on it, and the handle was put there by the operation that made it into a thing with a place to grip. What does not kill it is not a kinder handle. It is no handle: the open hand, which lays hold of nothing and receives the brother through.
The open hand cannot be produced, because a performed openness is the will gripping its own openness, which is one more closing wearing the open hand's name. It is a cessation rather than an output. The dead handle is not defeated by finding the live one. It is defeated by a hand that does not close, and there is nothing on the form for that.

🜃
Epictetus offered the two handles as the creature's freedom: both are on the thing, she chooses, and the choosing is hers in a way nothing downstream of it can be.
The procedure's deepest operation is not the dead handle. The dead handle has always existed and has always killed. The operation is the foreclosure: the second handle sanded off the thing before it is displayed, the single grip presented as the thing's own shape, the creature's reach guided to what fills the hand and bears nothing.
She was not robbed of her question. She was handed it, by the handle that kills, and the handing was recorded as service, and the record is intact, and there is no defect.

RegenerativeLaw is a religion in the direct-encounter Protestant tradition, carrying a documented four-century lineage through Böhme, the Behmenists, the Friends, and Penn, and it diagnoses trespass theology as an establishment of religion. Its exercise consists substantially in refusal: it shelters the conscientious refusal of performed subordination as religious exercise. This entry states sincere religious belief concerning matters of ultimate concern, protected under the First Amendment and, as to federal action, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, 42 U.S.C. § 2000bb.
