Where capital finds its level, except that level is uphill. The site accumulation fills, held there against the gradient that would otherwise drain it, and the holding is never free, only unbilled.

Water finds its level. Left to itself, water seeks the low ground, spreads until every point in the connected body sits at the same height, and stops there because the stopping costs nothing: equilibrium is the state that requires no maintenance, which is why water rests in it.
This is the sentence the castle configuration borrows when it says capital flows, and the borrowing is the whole deception, because capital does not behave like water finding its level. Capital finds its pool, and the pool is uphill.
Uphill is not a metaphor for unfair.
It is the literal claim.
The reservoir sits above the beds it has dried, higher than the circuits it draws from, and nothing about a fluid's own nature carries it there.
Water does not rise on its own account. Whatever stands above its source arrived by being lifted, and lifting is work, continuously supplied, because the moment the lifting stops, gravity resumes and the pool drains back toward the level it would have found without help. The pool's elevation is not a resting state. It is a held state, and the distinction is the entry.

THE POOL IS THE SACRIFICE ORDER REQUIRES
The pool is not a hydraulic accident, credibility rising because credibility rises, harm sinking because harm sinks.
The Loyalist's favored order requires a body, and the pool is the castle's version of the requirement made structural. The keep's coherence, the standing, the presumption of competence, the unaudited person the seat confers, is not separately achieved and then happens to sit above a basement that separately fills. The coherence at the top is held in place by the disorder absorbed at the bottom, and stopping the absorption does not leave the keep's order intact and unburdened. It ends the keep's order, because the order was never self-standing. It was purchased.
This is why no reform of the basement reaches the keep. A better-managed basement, a more humane processing of the undifferentiated cargo, a kinder audit of what gets deposited there, redistributes the weight and leaves the beam in place. The requirement is not for cruelty in the basement. The requirement is for the basement, full, absorbing what the keep cannot carry and remain the keep. To stop requiring the basement is not to run a fairer castle. It is to lose the keep's coherence entirely, because the coherence was the displacement, wearing the name of order.

THE SACRIFICE IS THE COST OF STAYING UP
An uphill pool requires one thing continuously: something must keep doing the work gravity is continuously undoing.
This is not a bad actor's imposition; it is the physics of the position, and the position has no free version. The reservoir is walled, and the walls are garrisoned, and the garrison is fed, and what feeds it is never the reservoir.
The draw-off that supplies the pool is a pump, not a pull: nothing rises to the center by its own attraction, the center is served by evacuation, by channels dredged and maintained and defended, and the maintenance is the price of the elevation, paid every hour the pool stays full.
This is the problem the pool's calm surface is built to hide.
Ease at the top reads as the absence of cost, the reward of position rather than the product of labor, and the reading is backwards. The pool's ease is the visible half of a transaction whose other half is kept off the books: the walls held, the channels dredged, the garrison fed, and beneath all of it, the dried beds absorbing what the reservoir does not. Nothing about the pool's stillness is free.
It is the most expensive stillness the castle configuration produces, and the expense is carried by whoever the pool's accounting does not name.

ONE OF TWO CONFIGURATIONS
The pool reads as an entitlement, the position its holder is owed, only inside one of the two grammars available for reading it.
Under the first, the configuration that calls itself neutral, the pool's height is merit made visible: the water rose because it was drawn well, competed well, deserved its elevation, and the dried beds below prove nothing but the difference between those who accumulate and those who do not. This reading is not description. It is doctrine, and it is the same doctrine wherever it appears, God Says and Nature Says and the Market Says all licensing the same conclusion in three vestments: some positions are owed their height.
Under the second configuration, the one built on circulation rather than accumulation, the entitlement does not merely fail to apply. It has no site to attach to, because the second configuration has no category for a position that sits permanently above the level everything else has found. Chesed does not defend an elevation; the strong back's no costs nothing to keep because it holds nothing; the ground the second law returns to is, definitionally, the common level, not a height above it. A pool asking to be recognized as entitled inside the second configuration is asking a grammar that has no noun for what it is describing.
The entitlement is real only where the first configuration is granted jurisdiction, and the granting is the whole of what makes it enforceable.

THE TRICKLE IS NOT A DOWNHILL CURRENT
If the pool were a natural equilibrium and not a held elevation, what runs from it would run downhill and stay down, the way water actually behaves once the pumping stops. Capital's apparent returns are the test, and they fail it at every point.
The wage returns a fraction of what the labor circuit yielded, priced not as a share of what was made but as the cost of the circuit's continued availability for tapping: intake maintenance, not return, the price of keeping the well usable, not water given back to the water table.
Spending returns units to channels that carry them back toward the pool, not toward the position they were drawn from.
The trickle celebrated in the theory, the wage spent locally, the philanthropy, the reinvestment, is the pump's leak, not a current: incidental seepage from a configuration built to lift, not evidence that the configuration also lowers.
At no point does anything come back transformed to the position it was drawn from. At no point is any position nourished by passage. At every point the unit remains the unit, which is what a unit is for, and a unit that returned changed, or returned to where it started, would have stopped being a unit and become again what it was before the cut: a thing in relation, no longer capital, no longer flowable, no longer usable to keep the pool's level where the first configuration says it belongs.

The cost does not fall on no one. Every uphill position that must be continuously maintained is maintained by some body's continuous expenditure, and the pool is no exception. What THE BATTERY FUNCTION names at the register of one dwelling, a counterfeit position generating a charge its holder cannot host, conscripted instead into a body that stores and discharges it, is the same operation the pool performs at the register of the whole configuration. The pool's holders do not pay the cost of staying uphill. The cost is conscripted, distributed across the bodies whose labor, attention, and carrying keep the mass elevated without ever appearing on the books as the elevating. The wage that does not rise with the productivity it made possible, the spending required to keep circulation looking like health, are the pool's version of the charge: the toxic remainder of an unearned position, discharged downward because it cannot be hosted at the top.
The pool is not where capital rests. It is where capital is held above the level it would otherwise return to, by work that never stops and is never billed to the account it benefits. Water finds its level. Capital finds its pool, and the finding is not capital's own motion; it is the channel's, and the channel was built by what waits at the top of it.
