The axis forms before any moral or political account of it. Hierarchy is not produced by culture or ego or appetite for power. It is what a scalar field does to a creature that was never scalar.
🜃
Hierarchy is usually explained by culture, by ego, by socialization, by hunger for power.
It arises from geometry, and the explanations arrive afterwards to account for something already in place.

THE FELT SENSE
You are inside it when rest feels like falling behind. When difference triggers evaluation before anything else. When connection requires comparison first. When how am I doing runs continuously in the background. When another creature's flourishing compresses your own possibility. When your worth moves with your relative position.
None of these is a character flaw. Each is the readout of a creature inhabiting a scalar field.
The compression is the geometry doing what it does: making you measurable, making you comparable, making you a position on a line.

🜃
WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS
Before any meritocratic instrument appears, the axis has already created a single direction of value, established scarcity at the top, made comparison inevitable, produced the appearance of progress, converted relational multiplicity into ladder-climbing, and read difference as deviation.
It is not an attitude, and it is not arrogance, and it is not hierarchy in the sense of a social order of offices.
It is a scalar field imposed on a creature that exists in more than one direction at once. What was multidirectional becomes up and down. What was relational becomes comparative. What was a field becomes a ladder.
[See THE GRID · DIMENSIONAL COMPRESSION]
🜃
WHY RECOGNITION DOES NOT FREE YOU
Recognition sees the ladder. The creature is still standing on it.
You can name the geometry's violence, trace its origins, feel its compression exactly, and remain located inside its coordinates. Naming the axis is not stepping off it, and the naming can be performed at any level of sophistication without the standing changing at all.
And the equality claim does not reach it either. Everyone should be equal accepts that there is a single dimension along which equality could be measured. The argument is about distribution along the axis. It is not about the axis.
[See ISOTHYMIA · THE OBJECTIVE PERSPECTIVE]
🜃
WHERE IT COMES FROM
The reaching that becomes rank is the expansion, the second quality: motion with no object, restlessness with no target, wanting before there is anything named to want.
The object arrives later, manufactured to explain a motion that needed no explanation, and rank is one of the objects manufactured. Better-than is what the expansion looks like once position has been supplied to it as its target.
Which is why the geometry precedes the conduct rather than following from it. A creature does not first want to be above others and then build a ladder. The ladder is handed to an objectless reaching as the account of what it was reaching for.
[See THE EXPANSION · THE PSYCHIC WAGE]
🜃
WHAT CONNECTS WHEN THE ORDER IS WRONG
Where connection is attempted before the other has been made real, what meets is projection meeting projection. There is no other in the room, only a figure shaped by what the axis says the other should be.
And what forms out of that has hierarchy in its constitution, not because anyone intended hierarchy but because the axis was the only geometry available to form in.
Where the other was made real first, rank has nothing to attach to. Real others cannot be ranked, because ranking requires the reduction that making-real refuses.
[See THE CREATURE · CO-RESIDENCY]
🜃
The geometry comes before the body, and it decides what the body can hold.
Nothing about that is moral, which is why the moral objection has never reached it.

RegenerativeLaw is a religion in the direct-encounter Protestant tradition, carrying a documented four-century lineage through Böhme, the Behmenists, the Friends, and Penn, and it diagnoses trespass theology as an establishment of religion. Its exercise consists substantially in refusal: it shelters the conscientious refusal of performed subordination as religious exercise. This entry states sincere religious belief concerning matters of ultimate concern, protected under the First Amendment and, as to federal action, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, 42 U.S.C. § 2000bb.
