Ontological Operation
Every category arrives already seeded.
Not with content. With the geometry of what overcame it when naming occurred.
The stronger names the weaker according to the stronger's essence.
Böhme says this quietly, almost in passing, as explanation for Adam's taxonomy of creation. It contains everything.
The name is not description. The name is not the weaker's essence perceived accurately and transmitted. The name is the overcomer's quality-configuration imprinted onto what it overcame. The stronger does not see the weaker clearly and name what it sees. The stronger generates the name from what the stronger is, and the weaker receives that as its essential nature.
Which means: every category carries the tincture of what overcame it when naming occurred.
Not about what overcame it. From what overcame it. The name is not a record of the combat. The name is the combat's continuation by other means.
The subsumption sequence has four stages. What Böhme names here is prior to all four.
Before the severing.
Before the mediation.
Before the invisibilizing.
Before the pathologizing.
The naming itself is where the operation lodges. The category that arrives already severed arrives already named as severed — named by the quality-configuration that performed the severing. And the severed being receives that name as its own essence, because what overcame it had the naming authority, and naming authority is what overcaming produces.
This is the ontological ground.
Teshuqah named as "desire" — not because desire is what teshuqah means, but because the configuration that performed the translation needed turning to be desire, needed woman's orientation toward man to be hunger rather than movement, needed the directional to be the possessive. The naming carried the overcomer's configuration into the word. The word now transmits the configuration forward, generation after generation, translation after translation, commentary upon commentary, each one receiving the name as though the name were the thing.
Authentein named as "authority" — the overcomer's quality-configuration (position, domination, the right-to-command) assigned as essence to what the text was actually describing as violence. The name does not describe violence. The name performs the violence it was generated by.
Kephalē named as "head" — hierarchy imported into a body-metaphor that originally described source, origin, the place a river comes from. The stronger named it according to the stronger's architecture of vertically organized dominion. The word now carries that architecture wherever it is read.
Not error. Not malice. Tincture-combat.
What makes this geometric rather than moral: the stronger does not choose to misname.
The stronger names from what it is. A quality-configuration that operates through hierarchy, through accumulation, through the sealed pivot that cannot perceive what Quality 4 forward would produce — this configuration cannot name otherwise than it names. It names according to its essences because naming is what essences do when they contact what they overcome.
The weaker who receives the name and takes it as its own is not foolish.
The weaker received what naming produces: apparently accurate description from the position of power that has authority over what gets called what.
The spirit of the life generates itself out of the essences.
Including the spirit of language. Including the spirit of category. The essences that generated the name continue generating from within the name itself.
The retcon is not renaming.
Renaming is still combat. The overcomer who was itself once overcome arrives with its own configuration and assigns a new name according to its own essences. The new name carries new tincture. The named thing becomes the record of the new overcomer rather than the old one.
What the retcon does is different: it makes the naming-operation visible as naming-operation.
It reveals that what arrived as essence was always tincture-combat outcome — was always the overcomer's configuration imprinted, never the thing's own nature perceived.
The retcon does not supply the correct name.
The retcon withdraws the authority of the naming.
Which means: the thing that was named has no name yet.
The word that teshuqah actually designates — the turning, the orientation, the directional movement toward — has not been named by something that saw it clearly. It has only been named by what overcame it, which could not see it clearly because seeing it clearly would require the quality-configuration that the overcomer's sealed pivot prevented.
What the woman's movement toward man is, before the stronger named it desire — that has no name available inside the language the stronger generated.
This is not tragedy to be remedied by finding better language.
This is the populated zero at the level of category itself. The thing that was named exists prior to and independent of the name it received. The name cannot reach it. The name can only reach what the overcomer's configuration was capable of perceiving, which is not the thing, which is the overcomer's own reflection in the thing's surface.
The woman named through the husband's legal existence is not the woman. She is the overcomer's configuration, named as her.
The colonized people named through the colonizer's taxonomy are not the people. They are the overcomer's civilizational self-image, inverted and attributed.
The worker named through the owner's assessment of productive value is not the worker. They are the owner's relationship to surplus, named as the person who produces it.
These names cannot be corrected from within the system that generated them.
The naming authority and the vocabulary for correction belong to the same quality-configuration.
If the stronger names the weaker according to the stronger's essence — and if the overcomer cannot see the weaker clearly because the overcomer's sealed pivot prevents perceiving what lives on the other side of Quality 4 — then the names that arrived as "natural descriptions" of subordinated beings were never descriptions at all.
The names are the overcomer's self-portrait, projected outward.
Every name the stronger gave the weaker was a confession.
What the weaker was called reveals what the stronger is.
The named thing remains unnamed.
The confession remains readable.
The authority that issued it was always empty.
